Billionaire investor Warren Buffett donated $6 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock on Friday to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family-run charities. This marks his largest annual donation since he began giving away his fortune in 2006.
The donation included about 12.36 million Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway. Of that, 9.43 million shares went to the Gates Foundation, while 9,43,384 shares were donated to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation. Three other foundations, led by Buffett's children Howard, Susie, and Peter, each received 660,366 shares. These are the Howard G Buffett Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation.
With this latest donation, Buffett's total charitable giving has now exceeded $60 billion. Despite the large gift, he still owns 13.8% of Berkshire's stock, as per Reuters.

In a statement, Buffett reaffirmed that he does not plan to sell any Berkshire shares. Now 94, he has led Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway since 1965. The $1.05 trillion company owns nearly 200 businesses, including Geico and BNSF Railway, as well as large stakes in Apple and American Express.
Last year, Buffett revised his will to leave 99.5% of his remaining fortune to a charitable trust after his death. The trust will be overseen by his three children, who will have about ten years to distribute the funds, and must decide together how the money is allocated. Buffett has previously said that donations to the Gates Foundation will stop after his death.

UAE summer hiring: Expats wanted for Dubai government jobs with salaries up to Dh50,000
Despite slower private-sector hiring, Dubai's government continues recruiting skilled global talent and expats across sectors like healthcare, urban planning, and transport this summer. The UAE job market in 2025 is evolving amid economic shifts and global uncertainties, with hiring showing signs of both caution and opportunity. As reported by local news outlet, Gulf News, demand for skilled professionals remains strong in sectors like construction, banking, and technology, but overall hiring has slowed entering the second half of the year. This slowdown is largely due to new corporate tax pressures and unclear economic conditions, which have caused many companies to postpone major recruitment decisions until after Q4 2025, when tax filings clarify plans for 2026. AI and automation are also reshaping roles, prompting employers to take a more measured approach to hiring. Despite these challenges, sectors such as transport and logistics continue to offer promising openings. Amid this cautious environment, government jobs stand out as particularly attractive to expats, offering stability, benefits, and competitive pay. Dubai is actively recruiting experienced expatriates through its official portal, where a range of positions are available, some with salaries reaching up to Dh50,000 per month. This reflects a strategic shift: while the UAE has traditionally focused on Emirati talent in public service, the current recruitment drive highlights the value placed on global expertise to support Dubai's ambitions in urban planning, healthcare, digital infrastructure, aviation safety, and cultural preservation. Contrary to myths about summer hiring freezes, government recruitment often continues or even intensifies during this period. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This approach offers expatriates not just jobs, but careers with purpose, stability, and attractive compensation. Century-old train control systems set for big upgrade! Indian Railways prepares new blueprint; focus on safety and train speed
The Railway Board will soon create a detailed blueprint for a modern, technology-driven system. Indian Railways is set to undertake a major upgrade of its over 100-years-old train control systems in a bid to improve operational efficiency and safety across the world's fourth-largest railway network. The Railway Board will soon create a detailed blueprint for a modern, technology-driven decision support system aimed at managing operations and traffic more effectively and also speed up trains, reported ET quoting officials. The move comes as growing traffic congestion, delays, and a spate of accidents have raised red flags about the need for urgent reform. The planned overhaul will focus on freight-heavy corridors as well as high-speed and mixed-traffic routes, offering sharper control and streamlined operations. Indian Railways Set For Big Upgrade Central to the new system will be an integrated command centre bringing together all departments involved in train operations. This will replace the current siloed and largely manual control system with advanced decision-making tools for better train movement management, route planning, and crisis response. The shift is also expected to ease the burden on train controllers dealing with rising traffic density. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Also Read | Indian Railways hikes fares of passenger trains; minor increase in ticket prices effective from July 1, 2025 - check details A senior official was quoted as saying that the Railway Board will draw lessons from international systems in countries such as Japan, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Spain. However, these cannot be adopted directly due to the unique operational complexity of Indian Railways. With long-haul freight trains, semi-high-speed services, and a wide variety of rolling stock, Indian conditions demand customised solutions. Indian Railways eyes new tech The urgency for reform gained momentum after a series of train accidents highlighted gaps in the existing control infrastructure. In response, the Railway Board set up a committee to recommend changes in the traffic control system. Chandan Chaturvedee, a retired chief controller who was part of the team that represented the traffic control cadre before the Railway Board, noted that the department had long suffered from understaffing and lack of recognition."These reforms will ensure the long-standing demands of this crucial department are met," he said.
