Matthew Modine teases ‘pretty exciting' Godzilla x Kong: Supernova
The Stranger Things actor, 66, is due to star in the upcoming MonsterVerse blockbuster, and has now revealed he had agreed to appear in the film to meet the iconic Titan - only to be disappointed Godzilla wasn't actually there during production.
Speaking on a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention, the Full Metal Jacket actor said: 'I just worked in Godzilla x King Kong: Supernova. That was pretty exciting. Oh, to work with Godzilla.
'When I was working on Godzilla - that's what I was gonna say - I kept waiting.
'I was like, 'Wait a minute, Godzilla is not here!' I'm looking at Godzilla and King Kong as if they're there. And when you go to drama school, there's exercises you do where you come out, and you have to see things that aren't there.
'So I was happy to pretend that Godzilla was there. I did the movie because I wanted to meet Godzilla.'
As well as Modine, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will introduce new characters played by Sam Neill, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O'Connell, Delroy Lindo and Alycia Debnam-Carey.
The film will also see the return of Dan Stevens as Trapper Beasley.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is being helmed by We Bury the Dead director Grant Sputore and written by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe David Callaham.
Although no plot details about the movie are known, Deadline previously reported Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will introduce several new human characters who will join the titular Titans as they face off against a new world-ending threat.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova - which is slated to hit cinemas in March 2027 - will pick up after the events of 2024's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Starring Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens and Brian Tyree Henry, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire followed the legendary Titans, Godzilla and Kong, as they joined forces to face a powerful new threat rising from within Hollow Earth - one that poses a danger to both their kind and the future of humanity.
Last year, it was announced that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard would not be helming the next film due to scheduling conflicts.
At the time, The Hollywood Reporter stated that his departure was amicable and that the possibility remained for Wingard to return to helm another Monsterverse movie in the future.
Despite stepping away, Wingard had previously hinted that he had 'more story to tell' within the MonsterVerse.
Speaking to Discussing Film ahead of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's theatrical release in March 2024, he said: 'The whole idea that if you've done two movies, like, maybe you should just go ahead and do a third because, as you said, there's a trilogy in there.
'It just depends on how [Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire] does and how things kind of shape out. I do have more story to tell with these monsters, and I know where I'd go with it.
'I would be very excited to be able to come back on for another one if things worked out!'

Halsey was "cautiously picky" before deciding to make her major movie debut in Americana. The 30-year-old star features in Tony Tost's modern Western and explained that she "really connected" with the project, which is finally hitting cinemas later this month after being filmed in 2022. She recalled: "We were actually hanging out a bunch during Covid, so when I got the call she was doing the movie we had like just gone hiking a few days before, so it was like, 'Oh cool, I'll see you there.' "It was just really great to have someone to learn from, to ask questions to - the stupid questions you don't think of. It was my first time on a movie set in a real way; just being like, 'Who do I look at? Who do I listen to? What's the cool code words I don't know, the actor lingo?' So having someone to ask the stupid questions to was great." Halsey - whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane - has revealed that she is developing the new Amazon series Bloodlust, although she is thankful that she will not be acting in the dark comedy. She explained: "I started the pilot a few years ago and Amazon wanted it and they took it and now we're getting it on the road. Josh Brolin reveals his ‘trepidation' over The Goonies sequel
Josh Brolin is uncertain about making a sequel to The Goonies because he's concerned it might 'taint' the original movie. While the 57-year-old actor - who starred in the 1985 adventure flick as Brandon 'Brand' Walsh - wants a follow-up to go ahead, Brolin admitted he was also apprehensive about a Goonies sequel because he doesn't want to ruin the 'memory' of the first film. Speaking about a Goonies sequel with Entertainment Tonight, he said: 'I hope it does [happen] because the experience was so great. The movie is received so well, generation after generation. 'It's just everything good about it. The trepidation that I have is that you release something else that taints that. I don't want to taint what my memory of it [is].' The Weapons star then joked about a possible plot for a Goonies sequel that would catch up with the gang when they're much older. He teased: 'It's like, 'Oh, we came out with another,' and then the Goonies grew up, and then they came out with their walkers and then they fell off a cliff because they couldn't see very well. What are you going to do? I don't know.' Brolin added a Goonies follow-up could work if it had the full backing of the movie's original producer and co-writer Steven Spielberg. The Dune star said: 'Maybe it could be great. If it's great, you'll know. If Spielberg approves it, you know it's going to be good.' Even so, the Avengers: Endgame actor conceded several Goonies sequel scripts have already been presented to the Jurassic Park filmmaker, though Brolin believes none have met Spielberg's high standards yet. He said: 'I think there's been five scripts so far through the years and he hasn't approved anything yet. 'Spielberg is picky, and he has a reason to be because he has great taste.' In January, it was reported a second Goonies movie was in development at Warner Bros., with Chris Columbus - who wrote the original movie with Spielberg - slated to return for the flick. Spielberg himself was also said to have been tapped to return as producer for the film. Although no specific details about the supposed sequel were disclosed, Deadline reported that Warner Bros. was shifting its focus toward established franchises, and therefore had begun development on a second Goonies film. The Goonies - which stars Ke Huy Quan, Sean Austin, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen and Brolin - follows a group of friends who discover an old pirate map and set off on a treasure hunt to save their homes from foreclosure. Along the way, they face booby traps, secret caves, and a family of criminals hot on their trail. Brolin's Goonies co-star Ke Huy Quan previously said he had his 'fingers crossed' for a sequel. He said of a Goonies follow-on: 'Well, fingers crossed. We have an incredible writer writing the script. Chris Columbus, Spielberg, obviously, same creative team. Except we've been developing for a long time. 'I want to be optimistic this time around. Hopefully, it will happen soon.'
