The Denver Broncos brought in a local wide receiver for a tryout this week.
Former Colorado Buffaloes receiver Will Sheppard attended mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis on Tuesday, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans.
Evans previously spotted Broncos coach Sean Payton chatting up Sheppard at CU's pro day earlier this year. Sheppard posted 40-yard dash times of 4.56 and 4.54 seconds, a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump at the pro day. He was not picked during the NFL draft in April but is now getting a chance to impress at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit.
Sheppard (6-2, 198 pounds) spent four years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado last fall. He totaled 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, ending his five-year college career with 200 catches for 2,688 yards and 27 touchdowns in 55 games. As of the time of publication, Sheppard has not signed.

Broncos 91-man roster going into training camp, sorted by position
Welcome back, Denver Broncos football! Broncos rookies reported last week and veterans are set to report this week ahead of the start of training camp on Friday, July 25. Next month, the team will play three preseason games. Denver made two changes to the 90*-man offseason roster in recent weeks, swapping out safety Tanner McCalister for UFL cornerback Mario Goodrich. *Fans should note that the Broncos have an extra 91st spot on the roster because Australian-born punter Jeremy Crawshaw gets an offseason roster exemption as part of the NFL's international player pathway program. With that caveat in mind, here's a look at the team's roster going into training camp this week. Broncos offseason roster Denver will trim the roster down to 53 players by Aug. 26, then they will build a 16- or 17-player practice squad. Last year, the team's initial practice squad included Burton, Tillman, Bailey and Badie. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Did you know: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

'He did good,' Shelomi said after the run-walk. Advertisement 'I'm proud,' Sanders responded. 'We're getting better, though, right?' The 57-year-old Buffaloes head coach is typically very present in the headlines and on social media, but has missed several events this offseason battling his health issue. He recently made an appearance at the Big 12 media days, where he shut down reporters when asked about specifics regarding his ailments. Advertisement 'I'm already back,' Sanders told ESPN. 'I'm here today. I'm handling my responsibilities. So I look forward to it. I can't wait. You've got to understand, some of the young [players] I haven't even met yet. I'm so excited about that. '[The] Athletic, sometimes y'all be on that bulljunk,' Sanders said. 'So, I'm really not going to tell you much. You know that. Ex-Red Sox Executive Breaks Silence on 'Bold' Trade of $313 Million Superstar
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Chicago Cubs have seized a top spot in the National League and are preparing to fortify their roster ahead of a push for the World Series. But the front office is no stranger to the other side of things, having been a stark deadline seller in recent years in attempts to rebuild after winning the World Series. President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer reflected on that recent history by highlighting the role of his former colleague Craig Breslow, who is now the chief baseball officer of the Boston Red Sox. "He was a big part of the decision to trade away our core World Series guys," Hoyer explained, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. "It was time to reset and bring in new talent and put the organization in a different direction. He saw that as the right thing to do at the time." Apparently, that lesson stuck with Breslow. As the Red Sox publicly butted heads with franchise slugger Rafael Devers earlier this season, Breslow opted to trade him away to the San Francisco Giants. (Photo by) DiNuzzo/Getty Now, Hoyer has shared his reaction to the most shocking trade in recent Major League Baseball memory by praising Breslow's willingness to make it. "He's been bold with the (Garrett) Crochet deal, and obviously with the Devers deal, I loved the conviction he showed on that deal," Hoyer said, according to McCaffrey. "When I see other executives make decisions like that, I have so much respect because I know what goes into it from a personal standpoint." Though Red Sox fans might have been disappointed by the move, Hoyer is in a better position than most to understand the potential benefits of trading away a player in the midst of a $313 million contract like Devers. He is one of a number of ex-Red Sox executives who have gone on to run front offices of their own, including Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington. The Cubs have been embroiled in a four-year playoff drought since making their own sales, but those decisions seem to be paying off this season. As the Cubs look to transition their strong start into a deep playoff run, fans won't need to worry about Hoyer offloading any superstars this time around. But his praise for the Devers deal should be a reminder that tough roster decisions are never too far away. More MLB: 2 Braves Pitchers Linked To Potential Trade Ahead Of Deadline, Per Report
