4 Detained, Questioned After Actors Arrested In Chennai Cocaine Case
Investigators say Prasad, a former AIADMK functionary, is accused of selling cocaine to friends - including actor Srikanth - and hosting drug-fuelled parties. Kevin, believed to have supplied drugs to actor Krishna, was earlier found in possession of cocaine, OG ganja, methamphetamine, and Rs 45,000 in cash. John, a Ghanaian national, is suspected of being a key link in the network. Pradeep's role is under investigation, believed to be part of the same syndicate.
It all began with the arrest of Pradeep and John for alleged possession of cocaine and their interrogation led to Prasad who was also arrested after a drunken brawl at a pub in Chennai.
The case gained attention after the arrests of actors Srikanth and Krishna in connection with the drug racket. According to investigators Krishna used cocaine and shared it with friends, and was active on WhatsApp groups that coordinated drug use. Actor Srikanth allegedly purchased and used cocaine and had links with the drug cartel as well.
Both actors belong to prominent film families. Krishna's father is a film producer, and his brother, Vishnu Varadhan, is a noted director. Krishna has appeared in landmark Tamil films such as Anjali, Iruvar, and Thalapathy.
The Tamil film industry is reportedly shaken up over the arrests, with fears that more names - including a few actresses - may emerge during the investigation. In response to rising concerns, Kerala-based film producers have made it mandatory for artists and crew to sign "No drug" affidavit before filming - a move Tamil producers are also considering.
Chennai Police have made it clear that withholding information about drug possession or usage will now be treated as a criminal offence. Authorities say arrests and charges are based on scientific evidence, including witness accounts, digital forensics, and financial transactions.

His wife, Shruthi, had misled the police by fabricating a story stating that her overly drunk husband had fallen inside the washroom and she bathed him before making him sleep on the bed, and he had died in his sleep. The police, after registering an unnatural death case, had sent the body for the post-mortem, which revealed that the deceased had been hit on the face with an object. The accused, who confessed to killing her husband, told the police that she was having regular fights with him due to his closeness with the housemaid. Frustrated over this, she killed him and tried to cover it up by making it look like a normal death. 'Bhaskar was earning Rs 1.15 lakh, including the house rent. He was reportedly spending most of it on the housemaid. Bhaskar had stopped coming home for the last month and was staying with his friends. On June 27, when he came home under the influence of alcohol, Shruthi fought with him again and hit his face with a wooden plank. As he died on the spot, she bathed him and made him lie on the bed. The next morning, after the police got the information, she fabricated a story,' said an officer. Bhaskar married Shruthi 12 years ago after divorcing his first wife.

Three sentenced to life imprisonment for murder
Rajamahendravaram: Ina gruesome murder and robbery case that shocked Rajamahendravaram in 2013, the X Additional District and Sessions Court-cum-SC & ST Court has sentenced three accused to life imprisonment. The convicts, Devabathula Nag Mahesh alias Mahesh (37), Devabathula Lakshmana Rao (38), and Nakka Chandu alias Chepa (34), all residents of Rajamahendravaram, were found guilty of the cold-blooded murder of Puchchala Nagabharathi, a 48-year-old woman. The victim, Nagabharathi, who lived in Lakshmiwarapupeta, was running a school canteen near Jampeta. Mahesh and Lakshmana Rao used to supply snacks to her canteen. A casual business relationship developed into personal familiarity over time. On one occasion, she placed a large order for samosas for a function at her house. When the accused went to deliver the order, they observed that she was wearing gold jewellery. Motivated by greed, they conspired to rob her at a later time and brought in the third accused, Nakka Chandu, into their plan. On December 2, 2013, around 1 pm, the three accused went to the victim's residence and stole the jewellery and cash from her and house. When she resisted, they brutally murdered her on the spot. Her husband, upon discovering the incident, complained to the police and a case was registered. The investigation was led by then CIs M Ramesh and S Gangaraju, who apprehended the accused, recovered the stolen property, and filed the charge sheet in court. After a prolonged trial, Judge S Uma Sunanda pronounced the judgment, convicting all three and sentencing them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000 each for the murder charge, and five years of imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs 3,000 each for theft. District Superintendent of Police D Narasimha Kishore commended the efforts of Additional Public Prosecutors K Radhakrishna Raju and D Srivani Bhai for their effective arguments. He also appreciated 3 Town Inspector Varri Apparao and other staff for closely monitoring the trial process.

Now, a local court in Bengaluru has passed an ex parte interim injunction order restraining the actor from making any remarks against the Kannada language. According to PTI, the suit sought an injunction against Kamal Haasan from making any defamatory statements against the Kannada language and culture. After hearing the complainant's plea, the court passed an injunction restraining Kamal Haasan from 'posting, making, writing, publishing any statement or remarks claiming linguistic superiority over Kannada language or making any statements against the Kannada language, literature, land and culture'. The court also issued a summons to Kamal Hassan and posted the case to August 30 for further hearing. The actor will now have to appear before the court on the next date. At the music launch of the film in Bengaluru in May, Kamal Haasan said that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil'. After Kamal Haasan stood by his statement and refused to apologise, Thug Life was not released in Karnataka. The film's makers, including Kamal Haasan, went to court and secured a victory, but quite belatedly. Eventually, the film was never released in Karnataka, and did not perform very well at the box office elsewhere. Thug Life marked Kamal Haasan's reunion with Mani Ratnam after 37 years. However, the film failed to get much love from fans or the critics.
