‘Only Murders in the Building' Emmy odds for Selena Gomez, the Martins, and all those guest stars
According to our updated odds, Martin Short (Oliver Putnam) is out front to win his Best Comedy Actor category, just months after he shockingly scored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. His costars, Steve Martin (Charles-Haden Savage) and Selena Gomez (Mabel Mora), are both in sixth place for nominations. The three leads play unlikely crime-solvers who podcast about murders that occur in and around their building, the fancy-schmancy Arconia in New York City.

Season 4 features a sprawling roster of special guests, including two actors — Meryl Streep (Loretta Durkin) and Paul Rudd (Glen Stubbins) — who received supporting nominations last year. Due to an already-controversial new Emmy rule, performers are ineligible to compete in guest if they were previously nominated for the same show in lead or supporting. Thus, both Streep and Rudd are competing in Best Comedy Supporting Actress/Actor again, where she places eighth and he places 12th.
In the Best Comedy Guest Actress/Actor contests, Melissa McCarthy (Doreen) has the strongest chance of reaping a bid, as she's in the sixth position. Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Donna Williams) rounds out the top 10, while Amy Ryan (Jan Bellows) and Griffin Dunne (Milton Dudenoff) are also in the running to hear their names called on nominations morning.
Other guest stars who appeared in more than 50 percent of the Season 4 episodes, and thus have to compete in supporting (per the Emmys rulebook), include the following: Molly Shannon (Bev Melon), Jane Lynch (Sazz Pataki), Eva Longoria (herself), Zach Galifianakis (himself), Richard Kind (Vince Fish), Eugene Levy (himself), and Kumail Nanjiani (Rudy Thurber).

Beloved 'Happy Days' Star Finally Earns His First Acting Emmy Nomination at the Age of 71
Beloved 'Happy Days' Star Finally Earns His First Acting Emmy Nomination at the Age of 71 originally appeared on Parade. Ron Howard is having one very happy day! On July 15, the former child star-turned-director, 71, received his very first acting Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Studio. In the Apple TV+ comedy series, Howard plays a fictionalized version of himself, and hilarity ensues as studio head Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) and his colleagues argue over who should be the one to tell the legendary filmmaker that he needs to cut a scene from his next movie. Howard's performance wasn't just a hit with the Television Academy, but also with his costars. "[He] was so game and so good and really tried so hard," Rogen, 43, gushed of working with the Happy Days alum in an interview with People. "[He] worked really hard on the performance and the role and yeah, he was very impressive." Howard's daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, who jokingly acted as her father's "momager" on The Studio set, was quite amazed too. "I was so nervous for him because he hasn't acted — he's done some stuff, like in Arrested Development, he's done some cameos here and there — but [this was] like a real part with dialogue, and they're shooting it all with oners, so you cannot mess up," she said at a live taping of Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast in New York City on April 14. However, "he went and he did the rehearsal, and honestly, I was like, oh my God. He was so good," the actress, 44, admitted. "He was so on point, and everyone was just sort of baffled by it, frankly." 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Will it be enough to earn Howard the Emmy, though? Come September, he'll be going up against last year's winner, The Bear's Jon Bernthal, as well as several other The Studio guest stars, including Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Anthony Mackie and Martin Scorsese. The Paramount comics, Colbert and Stewart, are sharp critics of the '60 Minutes' deal
Colbert's 'bribe' reference was to the pending sale of Paramount to Skydance Media, which needs Trump administration approval. Critics of the deal that ended Trump's lawsuit over the newsmagazine's editing of its interview last fall with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris suggested it was primarily to clear a hurdle to that sale. Advertisement 'I am offended,' Colbert said in his monologue Monday night. 'I don't know if anything — anything — will repair my trust in this company. But, just taking a stab at it, I'd say $16 million would help.' Related : He said the technical name in legal circles for the deal was 'big fat bribe.' Jon Stewart terms it 'shameful' Stewart began discussing the 'shameful settlement' on his show a week earlier when he was 'interrupted' by a fake Arby's ad on the screen. 'That's why it was so wrong,' he said upon his 'return.' He discussed the deal in greater detail with the show's guest, retired '60 Minutes' correspondent Steve Kroft, making his views clear through a series of leading questions. Advertisement 'I would assume internally, this is devastating to the people who work in a place that pride themselves on contextual, good journalism?' Stewart asked. 'Devastating is a good word,' Kroft replied. Related : A handful of media reports in the past two weeks have speculated that Skydance boss David Ellison might try to curry favor with Trump by eliminating the comics' jobs if the sale is approved. A representative for Ellison did not immediately return a message for comment on Tuesday. It would be easier to get rid of Stewart, since he works one night a week at a network that no longer produces much original content. Colbert is the ratings leader in late-night broadcast television, however, and is a relentless Trump critic. The antipathy is mutual. Trump called Colbert 'a complete and total loser' in a Truth Social post last fall, suggesting CBS was wasting its money on him. 'HE IS VERY BORING,' Trump wrote. Colbert slips in a quip Colbert alluded to reports about his job security in his monologue, pointing to the mustache he grew during his vacation. 'OK, OK, but how are they going to put pressure on Stephen Colbert, if they can't find him?' he joked. Colbert and Stewart both earned Emmy nominations this week for outstanding talk series. Together with ABC's Jimmy Kimmel, all three nominees are tough on Trump. Related : CBS News journalists have largely been quiet publicly since the settlement's announcement. Two top executives, Reporting about the settlement on the day it was announced, 'CBS Evening News' anchor John Dickerson said viewers would have to decide on their own what it meant to them. Advertisement 'Can you hold power to account after paying it millions?' Dickerson asked. 'Can an audience trust you when it thinks you've traded away that trust? The audience will decide that. Our job is to show up to honor what we witness on behalf of the people.'

Emmys leave San Francisco-set ‘A Man on the Inside' on the outside
Emmy voters evidently didn't leave their hearts in San Francisco. There are always surprising inclusions and omissions from any Emmy list, but one shocker from the nominations handed down Tuesday, July 15, was the exclusion of the Netflix sitcom ' A Man on the Inside.' The comedy set and partially filmed in San Francisco received zero nominations, despite star Ted Danson receiving both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his role as Charles Nieuwendyk, a retired college professor who agrees to go undercover at a Nob Hill retirement home to find a missing ruby necklace. Danson, best known for the 1980s sitcom 'Cheers,' holds the record for the most Emmy nods for a lead actor in a comedy series (14 nominations, with two wins), et he was unexpectedly left out this year. The nominees are Seth Rogen, Apple TV+'s ' The Studio '; Martin Short, Hulu's ' Only Murders in the Building '; Jeremy Allen White, FX/Hulu's ' The Bear '; Adam Brody, Netflix's 'Nobody Wants This'; and Jason Segel, Apple TV+'s ' Shrinking.' Best comedy series nominations went to 'The Bear,' 'Nobody Wants This,' 'Only Murders in the Building,' 'Shrinking' and 'The Studio' as well as ABC's 'Abbott Elementary,' HBO/Max's 'Hacks' and FX/Hulu's 'What We Do in the Shadows.' The reviews for 'A Man on the Inside' have been stellar since its debut in November, with Rotten Tomatoes rating it at 96% fresh from critics and 91% from viewers. It also has been watched by 12.4 million viewers, earning it the No. 14 spot on Nielsen's chart of most watched series. It has also been renewed for a second season. Danson's real-life wife, Mary Steenburgen, will join him in the cast. The show, inspired by the Oscar-nominated 2020 Chilean documentary 'The Mole Agent' is quirky and endearing, and gives dignity to the elderly community. It also, according to Chronicle culture critic Peter Hartlaub, provided one of the best hours of San Francisco television ever. (Episode 7, 'From Russian Hill with Love,' in which Charles and his new friend Calbert spend a day in the city, from a ferry ride to the Golden Gate Bridge to Oracle Park.) But the creators of 'A Man on the Inside' can take hope from a pair of Apple TV+ shows that got some love Tuesday. 'Shrinking,' the comedy starring Segel and Harrison Ford received seven nominations for its second season and ' Slow Horses,' an espinage thriller starring Gary Oldman, received five noms for its fifth season. Each show was virtually ignored in their first seasons. Maybe voters just need time to catch up.
