on Sunday performed the bhoomipujan for Vidarbha's first and the state's fourth Fisheries College at Morshi in Amravati district. Speaking at the ceremony, Fadnavis said that fisheries is now a priority sector after being granted the status of farming by the state govt, enabling fish farmers to avail loans, Kisan Credit Cards, and other benefits.
"Though sea fishing gets more attention, 40% of fishing activity happens in rivers. We are committed to supporting river fishing and farm-lake fisheries, which are creating jobs and helping farmers in distress," he said.
Fadnavis stated that the ₹1 lakh crore Wainganga-Nalganga water project will bring water from the Gosikhurd dam to 31 reservoirs in Buldhana district. Additionally, ₹25,000 crore will be invested in agriculture over the next five years.
Fisheries minister Nitesh Rane promised to complete the college building within two years and shared plans for AI-based innovations in the fisheries sector. MP Anil Bonde delivered the introductory remarks.
The event was attended by guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, several MLAs and MPs, and senior officials. Fadnavis also unveiled the cornerstone of the college and was felicitated by the local fishing community.

U.S. aluminium producer Century Aluminum has been vocal in its support of tariffs that it says are essential to protect what remains of the U.S. aluminium smelting industry. The waiver for refined copper reflects its importance to U.S. manufacturing and the influence of the industry, including major producer Freeport-McMoRan, which earlier this year said a global trade war would undermine U.S. copper production. "A global trade war could result in slower economic growth," Freeport said in a submission to a U.S. government request for comment on its investigation into copper import tariffs. "Slower growth in the U.S. or globally would negatively impact copper prices, which could threaten the viability of the domestic copper industry due to its elevated cost structure." The case for tariffs on U.S. aluminium imports includes the energy proportion of smelting costs in the United States. Macquarie's ballpark estimate for energy costs for producing primary aluminium and copper is 50% and 30% respectively. "There is no economic case for building any greenfield aluminium smelting capacity without substantial intervention. Even then, intervention may not be sufficient," said Macquarie analyst Marcus Garvey. Analysts say one major difficulty for potential investors in U.S. aluminium smelting capacity is getting long-term power purchase agreements at competitive prices, when power costs are higher in the U.S. compared with other producing countries such as United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and the world's biggest producer China. The cost of electricity is the main reason why there are only four active U.S. aluminium smelters down from 23 in 1995. According to U.S. Geological Survey, the United States produced 3.35 million metric tons of primary aluminium in 1995, 1.6 million tons in 2015 and 670,000 tons last year.

Government fast-tracks delayed projects: 923 pending road completions under review; over Rs 7.7 lakh crore cost estimated
Representative image The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has accelerated pending road projects, with the goal of finalising 50% by the end of March through expedited clearances, swifter land procurement, and timely central funding allocation, a senior official told ET. "The ministry has identified low-hanging projects along with issues resulting in delay of these projects and is moving ahead with targeted intervention to streamline work on these projects," the official said on condition of anonymity. "Besides, a strict monitoring mechanism has been put in place to ensure that they meet the fresh date of completion with monthly review of these projects being done at the highest level," the official added. Data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation shows that the Road Transport and Highways Ministry is currently overseeing 923 projects, with most having surpassed their initial completion dates. The total expenditure projection for these projects stands at Rs 7.7 lakh crore, exceeding both the revised estimate of Rs 7.6 lakh crore and the initial budget of Rs 7.3 lakh crore. An ET analysis showed that roads and highways accounted for 32 of 42 infrastructure projects (76.2%) completed in June. Additionally, the road sector contributed 24 of the 40 projects finished in May. This assessment considers projects valued at ₹150 crore or more, indicating substantial progress in the road transport and highways sector. Several projects faced considerable delays before completion. For example, the NH-219 rehabilitation in Andhra Pradesh took 9 years and 8 months, despite its original October 2015 deadline. The four-laning project of NH-361's Waranga Mahagaon section in Maharashtra was completed after 8 years and 3 months, having initially been scheduled for March 2017.
