Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu is identified as a high-risk flood zone due to an outdated drainage system unable to handle heavy rainfall. Earlier this year, over 50 homes were submerged up to knee level, prompting urgent action from villagers and the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK).
Residents and JPKK representatives formally raised the issue with local authorities and Teo on April 14, seeking a long-term solution to the recurring floods.

Dr Zaliha urges federal agencies to halt improper project extensions
LABUAN: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has urged all implementing agencies in the federal territories to halt the improper practice of granting unjustified extensions of time for development projects. Chairing the Federal Territories Development Action Council meeting in Putrajaya today, Dr Zaliha stressed that projects such as schools, hospitals, military housing, and other critical infrastructure related to national security must be expedited without compromise, as they involve the rights of the people. 'Contractors must be held accountable to the agreed timelines. There should be no room for excuses,' she said in a Facebook post today. Dr Zaliha also revealed that under the 12th Malaysia Plan's Fifth Rolling Plan, a total of 648 physical and 320 non-physical projects have been recorded. Of these, 402 are in the pre-implementation stage, 461 are in progress, 104 have been completed and one has been cancelled. She urged all relevant agencies to closely monitor the progress of projects under their jurisdiction and to refrain from approving any time extensions unless backed by clear, legitimate and well-documented justifications.

JPKK reminded to uphold integrity in fund management
SEREMBAN: All Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairpersons and committee members are reminded to uphold integrity in managing funds entrusted to them, said Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. He said all allocations channelled through various initiatives are a responsibility that must be appropriately managed, and any form of misappropriation, abuse or implementation delays could tarnish the government's image and erode public trust. 'I want to stress that integrity in managing government funds is crucial. Every sen disbursed through any allocation is a trust from the people. 'The Sejati MADANI Initiative fund, for example, must be managed responsibly, transparently and effectively. It is not just financial allocation, but a symbol of the government's trust in the JPKK. Therefore, there should be no room for abuse, leakage or wastage,' he said in his speech at the 'Majlis Amanat Menteri Besar' with 434 JPKK members here today. Govt to provide aid to rebuild homes destroyed in Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut fire, says Zahid
BAGAN DATUK: The government will provide appropriate assistance to help victims of the fire in Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, rebuild their homes destroyed in last Saturday's (June 28) blaze. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said a total of 21 heads of household (KIRs) and several shop lot owners were identified as eligible for assistance following a census conducted. "The current allocation is approximately RM86,000 for each housing unit. "Today, government departments, agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and associations have contributed RM10,000 to each affected family. Additionally, a local Buddhist association has channelled RM100,000 in aid to all victims,' he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datuk MP, said this to reporters after visiting the site and presenting aid to the fire victims earlier on Tuesday (July 1). He also personally contributed RM3,000 to each affected household. The fire, which occurred around 4am on Saturday, destroyed 21 houses, several shop lots, and a temple in Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said the government, through the relevant agencies, will also coordinate the issuance of land title to all affected households, enabling them to rebuild their homes on land currently under Temporary Occupancy Licence (TOL) status. He said Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut is a 140-year-old fishing village comprising 149 homes and several business premises. Regarding the damaged temple, he said a private individual has pledged to contribute to its reconstruction.- Bernama
