BJ Novak jokes that Mindy Kaling loves being famous at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony
Kaling was honored on Tuesday when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where Novak made a heartfelt speech that also poked fun at Kaling's love of being famous, even if it's a 'weird' part of the job that she never really signed up for.
'Mindy respects and understands this in a very intuitive way,' Novak joked. 'Because in addition to being a brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother-of-three, a deep and caring daughter and friend and mentor to so many, Mindy is also, in her spare time, I assure you, very superficial.'
Novak continued to genuinely say that he and Kaling's loved ones always knew she'd be famous, 'but we had no idea how beautifully you'd handle the job.'
Later, Kaling thanked Novak when she made her speech, saying that he is 'such an important and integral part of my family that sometimes I forget the reason that I know him is because we work together professionally.'
'I'm as starstruck by him now at age 29 as I was when I first met you, at (age) 24,' Kaling joked. 'I love you.' (Kaling and Novak are both in fact 45.)
Kaling is best known for playing Kelly Kapoor on NBC's 'The Office' between 2005 and 2013. She also served as a writer and an executive producer on the series until its final season aired.
The Emmy-nominee went on to star in, write and produce 'The Mindy Project' on NBC and is a writer and producer on HBO's 'Sex Lives of College Girls.' She has also starred in dozens of films including 'Late Night,' 'A Wrinkle in Time' and 'Ocean's 8.'
Hilariously, Kaling proved Novak's point during her Walk of Fame speech when she declared that 'this is one of the times where I'm just gonna force myself to be in the moment.'
'I'm so happy,' she said, with a smile. 'I love recognition and this is just incredibly nice.'

Olivia Munn says 'Newsroom' director tried to sabotage role
Olivia Munn is opening up about her experience on "The Newsroom" and a director who tried to "ruin" her career after a dispute on set. The actress, during a June 30 appearance on the "Armchair Expert" podcast, told host Dax Shepard she got a positive response to her role as Sloan Sabbith in Season 1 of the HBO news drama. However, in the second season, the directors began getting heavy-handed with their notes for her. She said one director in particular tried to force her to carry the romantic storyline between her character and Thomas Sadoski's character Don Keefer, "but only on my side." "(He said) 'Can you snuggle up to him or flirt with him, or can you give him a kiss?' And this is in the middle of (my character) working," Munn, 45, said. Olivia Munn shuts down Aaron Rodgers family rift rumors: 'Nothing to do with me' In another instance, Sloan finds out Don used the information she gave him for insider trading, leading her to get upset. But the directors told Munn, "I don't think that you're that angry with him. It's kind of funny." When she put her foot down in another scene, the director told her she was coming off "forceful in strong," which was "what I wanted," Munn said. She recalled walking off, and a producer coming to her afterward because they "heard from the director there's a bit of an issue." "I'll tell you I was happy with what I did instead because ... people would have been like, 'Oh look at her character. Look how she's playing it.' And they wouldn't even care if I even said it was him. So I just stayed to my convictions," the former "The Daily Show" correspondent said. Munn said she was going out for a movie role when this feud resurfaced. "My manager calls me and says, 'Hey, you're going to get the role. But first, I guess there's another director who they know and he says that on 'The Newsroom' you were late all the time and really combative,'" she said. "I lived seven minutes from there. I was never late." She said she immediately knew who made the claim. "He just was trying to bash me," Munn. "And then I still got the role, but I will always remember that just because of our conflicts of how we approached a role, he wanted to ruin my chances of getting anything else." There were nearly a dozen male directors on the Emmy-winning series, which ended in 2014.

Various TV specials are set to air in honor of Independence Day, and will include fireworks and performances from musical icons. Whether you tune into Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular or celebrate Fourth of July with family or friends, there is no shortage of ways to spend the holiday. Read on for special programming and how to tune in. 'Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular' The 49th annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks special will air Friday on NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. EDT, and on Telemundo at 9 p.m. EDT. The event will include performances from the Jonas Brothers, Ava Max, Eric Church, Lenny Kravitz, Keke Palmer, Ariana DeBose and Trisha Yearwood, as well a 25-minute fireworks display with music produced by Questlove and James Poyser. The 80,000-shell show will take place over New York's Brooklyn Bridge and lower East River. NBC will air the encore at 10 p.m. EDT. 'A Capitol Fourth' The 45th annual Capitol Fourth celebration will broadcast from Washington, D.C., on PBS at 8 p.m. EDT, and will be hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro. The Beach Boys, Temptations, Josh Turner, Lauren Daigle, Trombone Shorty, LOCASH, Yolanda Adams, Abi Carter and the National Symphony Orchestra are set to take the stage. This year's Capitol Fourth will also commemorate 250 years of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. 'The Fourth in America' The 5th annual Fourth in America will air on CNN at 7 p.m. EDT, with anchors Dana Bash and Boris Sanchez hosting in Washington, D.C., and anchors Victor Blackwell and Sara Snider hosting in San Diego. Noah Kahan is headlining. Lainey Wilson, Dierks Bentley, Sting, Nelly, Counting Crows, Timbaland, The Fray, CAKE, Sublime, JoJo, Kaskade, 4 Non Blondes, Ashley McBryde, The War and Treaty, I Love the 90's Tour with Vanilla Ice, Young MC, Rob Base and Tone Loc, B.o.B., Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the U.S. Air Force Band will also mark the occasion with performances.
