Braves lose third baseman Austin Riley to IL for 2nd time in 2 months with abdominal strain
Riley suffered the injury while tagging out Cincinnati's Elly De La Cruz near home plate in the Braves' 4-2 win on Sunday in the rain-delayed MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Riley also landed on the IL on July 12 with a strained abdomen. He returned on July 25.
The Braves recalled infielders Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Jonathan Ornelas from Triple-A Gwinnett before opening a home series against Milwaukee on Monday night. The team optioned outfielder Jarred Kelenic to Gwinnett following Sunday's game.
Riley is hitting .260 with 16 homers and 54 RBI.

The drop in performance likely caused interested teams to drop their price for the right-hander when the deadline came around, despite Alcantara rebounding slightly after the All-Star break. The Yankees were reportedly in the running for Alcantara as well as Edward Cabrera at this season's deadline but were unwilling to move two of their top five prospects to land a frontline starter at the deadline. Lombard Jr. is the team's top prospect and is not expected to arrive in the Bronx until 2027. Given shortstop Anthony Volpe's struggles this season, the Yankees likely want to keep Lombard Jr. around to take over at shortstop when he is ready. Jones was once one of the best two-way prospects but is now primarily playing outfield and is crushing at the minor league level this season. Jones has 29 home runs across two levels this year and is going to be pushing for a roster spot in spring training next season. The Yankees likely didn't want to sacrifice their future for a starter who has not pitched at the level he has in the past, as they look to keep their championship window open long term. Hendrickson to headline wrestling event as Hulk Hogan's venture continues after his death
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Wyatt Hendrickson will face Egypt's Mostafa Aly Elsayed Gabr Elders in Real American Freestyle wrestling's main event on Aug. 30, the company announced Tuesday. RAF01, the company's inaugural event, will go on as planned at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland about a month after commissioner Hulk Hogan 's death. Chad Bronstein, Real American Freestyle's CEO and co-founder, said that's the way Hogan would have wanted it. 'From day one, he threw his weight behind this league,' Bronstein said of Hogan in a statement. 'He met with athletes. He watched tape, shared stories and showed up like only he could. RAF was personal to him, something bigger than all of us. This league is part of his legacy, and we intend to honor it.' Hendrickson beat Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson to win the 285-pound national title at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships in March. Hendrickson's dramatic late takedown in the final gave the Oklahoma State heavyweight the 5-4 win, closed out a 27-0 season and ended Steveson's win streak at 70 matches. Hendrickson later won the Hodge Trophy as the nation's top men's college wrestler. Hogan was a fan of Hendrickson's and believed he embodied the spirit of Real American Freestyle. Hendrickson is an Air Force second lieutenant who celebrated with a United States flag after he defeated Steveson. Hendrickson's opponent was the final piece to complete the card. Elders was the African Games champion at 97 kilograms in 2024 and qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics in that weight class. Other men's matchups include Bo Nickal vs. Jacob Cardenas; Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Bajrang Punia; Darrion Caldwell vs. Real Woods; and Austin Gomez vs. Lance Palmer. Women's matches scheduled are: Kennedy Blades vs. Alejandra Rivera; and Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Zeltzin Hernandez. Steelers sign DB Daryl Porter Jr.
The Steelers signed the son of one of their former draft choices on Tuesday. The team announced the addition of defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. to the roster. They waived tight end Kevin Foelsch in a corresponding move. Porter signed with the Bills after going undrafted out of Miami this year. He was waived by the Bills ahead of training camp, however, and will now try to do something that his father wasn't able to do. The Steelers drafted safety Daryl Porter Sr. in the sixth round in 1997, but he never appeared in a regular season game for the team. He did go on to play 55 games for the Lions, Bills, and Titans.
