Director Cheran is set to direct a biopic titled 'Ayya - The Lion of Tamil Nadu', focusing on the life and political journey of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr Ramadoss. This project marks Cheran's return to filmmaking following his acting stint in 'Narivetta', starring Tovino Thomas. The film will delve into Ramadoss' early life and his significant role in the 1987 Vanniyar reservation agitation.advertisementThe film's makers released four posters, capturing moments from the 1987 protest. They stated, "His voice roared for the voiceless. Now, his story roars on the big screen." PM's Pariksha Pe Charcha enters Guinness World Record for most registrations in a month

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Pariksha Pe Charcha initiative has entered the Guinness World Record for "most people registered on a citizen engagement platform in one month", the Ministry of Education (MoE) announced on Monday. According to officials, 3.53 crore valid registrations were received during the eighth edition of the programme. Prime Minister Modi directly interacts with students, teachers, and parents as part of the Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) initiative, which aims to transform the examination season "into a festival of positivity, preparation, and purposeful learning", making exams a time for encouragement rather than stress. "Pariksha Pe Charcha has been redefined as a national approach to examinations by turning stress into a festival of learning. The eighth edition of PPC recorded a total of over 21 crore viewership across all media platforms in 2025," Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said at an event where the Guinness World Record certificate was formally presented. "The overwhelming participation in PPC 2025 is seen as a reflection of the country's collective commitment to holistic and inclusive education and alignment with the vision of a Viksit Bharat," he said. While addressing the occasion, Ashwini Vaishnaw called Pariksha Pe Charcha a unique initiative that brings together students, parents, and teachers to promote well-being and stress-free learning. PPC is an annual event in which Modi interacts with students appearing for board examinations. During the event, he also answers students' queries related to exam stress and other issues. The first edition of the prime minister's interactive programme with school and college students was held at the Talkatora Stadium in February 2018. Its seventh edition was held in a town hall format at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, engaging participants from across the country and overseas.

Urvashi Questions National Award Jury For Ullozhukku: 'It's Not A Pension...'

Last Updated: At 56, Urvashi won Best Supporting Actress at the 71st National Film Awards for Ullozhukku but questioned the jury's decision, urging transparency as she played a central role. At 56, veteran actor Urvashi clinched the Best Supporting Actress award at the 71st National Film Awards for her performance as Leelamma in Ullozhukku, directed by Christo Tomy. While the honour adds another feather to her cap, Urvashi has publicly questioned the jury's decision-making process, specifically why she was recognised as a supporting actor despite playing a central role in the film alongside Parvathy Thiruvothu. In an interview with Manorama News, Urvashi didn't shy away from expressing her concerns. 'Is there any standard scale for acting? Or is it that after a certain age, this is all you'll get?" she asked pointedly. She went on to say, 'This is not pension money to be silently accepted. How are these decisions made? What criteria is followed?" The actress recalled a similar experience from 2006 when she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Achuvinte Amma, a film in which she also played the lead role. 'There were politics even then," she said, noting that she has always chosen meaningful roles over lobbying. Urvashi added that both she and Parvathy had been submitted in the Best Actress category for Ullozhukku, further questioning the jury's final verdict. 'These awards should make the recipient proud instead of being handed over with no explanation," she said. The actor has also urged Union Minister Suresh Gopi to look into the selection process and support greater transparency, especially for Malayalam cinema. Ullozhukku is a 2024 Malayalam drama film written and directed by Christo Tomy. Featuring powerhouse performers Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvothu in lead roles, the film also includes Arjun Radhakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Prashanth Murali, and Jaya Kurup in pivotal supporting parts. Recognised for its compelling storytelling, Ullozhukku was officially selected for the International Competition: Fiction category at the 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival, held in 2025. While Ullozhukku won Best Malayalam Film, 2018 was awarded Best Production Design and Pookkaalam bagged Best Editing at this year's National Awards. Vijayaraghavan took home Best Supporting Actor. However, notable omissions like Prithviraj Sukumaran's performance in Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life led to growing discontent. Even Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the jury's decision to honour The Kerala Story. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
