Ghaziabad: Admin issues directions for Kanwar Yatra preparation by June 30

Ahead of the upcoming annual Kanwar Yatra, the Ghaziabad district magistrate has directed different departments and local bodies to take up necessary civic works and complete preparations by June 30 to provide basic amenities to devotees in the wake of Kanwar Yatra, said officials. The directions to make preparations to complete Kanwar Yatra in an orderly and safe manner includes timely completion of the streetlights work, cleaning of the bushes and garbage along roadsides, ensuring that there are no power cuts in the district and especially on the Kanwar route, ensuring that no non-veg shops/liquor operate on the Kanwar route and near temples, deployment of divers and boats at the Upper Ganga canal passing through Ghaziabad, among others.
'The directions have been given to different departments and local bodies to complete preparations in their respective areas on the Kanwar route by June 30. The movement of Kanwariyas will begin in the first week of July. So, the deadline for all preparations is June 30. The police will take up deployment and measures at their end,' said Ghaziabad district magistrate Deepak Meena.
The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage taken up by devotees during the month of Shravan when they move primarily to Haridwar in Uttarakhand and bring Gangajal to their homes and temples, primarily afoot. Millions of devotees take up the journey each year, prompting different districts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to take up preparations.
The route for the Kanwar Yatra in Ghaziabad district is 25kms from Muradnagar to Tila Morh and about 42.5kms from the Kadrabad border to the Ghaziabad-Delhi border. Besides, an auxiliary route of about 53kms on the Delhi Meerut Expressway and National Highway 9, said officials. For the past years, the Delhi-Meerut Road has seen a major movement of Kanwariyas. It is a major route that connects Delhi to Haridwar.

The kanwariyas are expected to pass through Daraganj and Jhunsi before arriving at the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway. Kanwar devotees to receive grand welcome in Delhi, says Minister Kapil Mishra
New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Delhi's Art, Culture, and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Sunday announced that the Delhi government has made extensive arrangements to ensure a grand welcome for Kanwar Yatris, while highlighting the various initiatives taken to ensure a smooth journey for the devotees. According to Minister Mishra, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government has taken three main steps: Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to accounts of Kanwar Yatra committees, Free electricity upto 1200 units with 25 per cent reduction in security for electricity, and a 'single-window' clearance being made for permissions to install camps. 'The devotees will be given a grand welcome in Delhi. Three changes have been made at the direction of the CM. Direct Benefit Transfer will be done to the accounts of the Kanwar Yatra Committees. There will be no middlemen. 1200 units of electricity have been made free for Kanwar camps. The security for electricity has been reduced to 25 per cent. A single-window clearance has been created for permissions to install Kanwar Camps,' Mishra told ANI. Earlier, on June 25, after a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet, CM Rekha Gupta had announced new reforms to ensure efficient and dignified service to Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva), among them being DBT to the Kanwar Committees. She emphasised that, 'the move will enhance transparency and efficiency, ensuring better services for devotees. Only registered committees with valid PAN, bank details, and registration certificates will be eligible for the grant.' The Chief Minister further explained that Kanwar camps will be classified based on the tenting area and the number of days they operate. And committees will be eligible for a minimum grant of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs 10 lakh. CM Gupta informed that 50% of the grant will be given in advance, and the remaining 50% will be released only after the submission of the Utilisation Certificate (UC), verification with geo-tagged photos by the SDM or Tehsildar, and the completion of audit the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kanwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, Parshuram, a devotee of Shiva and Lord Vishnu's avatar participated in the initial procession. CS urges pilgrims to maintain decorum during Kanwar yatra
Haridwar: Chief secretary Anand Vardhan on Friday urged Kanwar Yatra pilgrims to "behave as people taking part in a festival of religion and faith." He said, "There's no need to carry items like sticks," adding that the govt's focus is on ensuring every pilgrim returns home safely after the pilgrimage. Director general of police Deepam Seth and top officials from all departments concerned were present. "Our goal is to conduct the yatra safely, securely, and successfully," said DGP Seth. "It is significant not just from a religious standpoint but also as a challenge in terms of law and order, crowd and traffic management, and overall security." He added that detailed work plans have been prepared, including interstate coordination, traffic diversions, holding areas, and real-time information sharing in case of a terrorist incident or emergency. Officials from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh attended the meeting in person, while representatives from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan joined virtually. The discussion covered all aspects of interstate coordination, including the deployment of officials at joint checkposts. Traffic restrictions will be implemented in phases—first, second, or third—depending on crowd pressure during the yatra. "We are fully prepared to meet all challenges and ensure the yatra is safe and secure," Seth said.
