RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar four wickets away from IPL milestone
As RCB and PBKS chase their first IPL title, Bhuvneshwar's bowling will have a crucial role to play at the powerplay and death. He is RCB's third-highest wicket-taker, with 15 scalps in 13 games at an average of 29.66, with an economy rate of 9.27. His best bowling figures in this edition are 3/33.
With four more wickets, Bhuvneshwar will join Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 220 IPL wickets in 173 matches at an average of 22.70, with the best score of 5/40.
In 189 matches, Bhuvneshwar has taken 196 wickets at an average of 27.41, with an economy rate of 7.41, with best figures of 5/19.
The veteran pacer also has a fantastic record against PBKS, with 32 wickets in 24 matches at an average of 19.93, with best figures of 5/19 and an economy rate of 7.36.
However, Bhuvneshwar has been wicketless in all four tournament finals he has played in T20s, though he has had a good economy rate of 6.53.

Russell's sparkling farewell in vain as Australia sprint to T20 win
Andre Russell struck a sparkling 36 off 15 balls in his final innings before retirement on Tuesday (July 23, 2025) but could not save the West Indies from losing the second Twenty20 international against Australia in Kingston. The 37-year-old all-rounder was unable to script a fairytale farewell to his glittering T20 career, but departed to a standing ovation on his home Sabina Park ground after hitting four trademark sixes and two fours. Batting at number seven in his 85th and last T20 international, Russell's cameo, plus a late flurry from Gudakesh Motie (18 off nine balls) added to 51 from opener Brandon King enabled the hosts to score 172-8 off their 20 overs. But a record 131-run stand by Josh Inglis, who made 78 not out, and Cameron Green (56 not out) saw Australia race to an eight-wicket win with more than four overs to spare. It was Australia's highest third-wicket partnership in Twenty20 internationals and, aided by six dropped catches by West Indies fielders, gave the visitors a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Inglis hit seven fours and five sixes while Green was barely more sedate, clearing the ropes four times and stroking three fours in his second consecutive fifty. "I didn't want to finish on a losing note," said Russell, whose spectacular final knock had briefly thrilled his hometown crowd. "I enjoy seeing the ball go over the ropes," he added. "As a kid you dream about playing here. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support me." Russell, who was given a guard of honour before the match by both teams, played just one Test match. It was as a Twenty20 specialist that he made his name, winning the T20 World Cup twice with the West Indies in 2012 and 2016. A more than lively seam bowler, Russell's free-scoring late-order batting and athletic fielding saw him sought after by T20 leagues around the world. He has been with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL since 2014, scoring more than 2,400 runs.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: 'Shubman Gill gave me complete backing behind the scenes,' says Sai Sudharsan
Divya Deshmukh (Sahil Malhotra/ in Manchester: On a day when India's batters showed grit against England's disciplined attack, Sai Sudharsan credited India's Test captain Shubman Gill for his calm guidance that helped him craft a vital 61 off 151 balls on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. 'After first game, Shubi (Shubman Gill) gave me complete backing behind the scenes. He tells everybody clearly. It's been same Shubi from IPL,' Sudharsan told reporters in the press conference after the day's play on Wednesday. Sudharsan, who replaced Karun Nair in the playing XI, looked composed even on a challenging surface that offered inconsistent bounce and seam movement. 'There was variable bounce, two-paced wicket. Throughout the day, the ball was moving and was doing something off the pitch,' he explained. The young left-hander was candid about his dismissal, a mistimed pull to fine leg. 'I didn't know how I edged it down the leg. England do it quite often for other batters too. I was quite aware coming into this game,' he said. Despite the pressure of a comeback Test, Sudharsan insisted he was focused on playing for the team. 'I am not looking at this as pressure but an opportunity to express myself. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo I wanted to play the situation and do well for the team,' he further said. Poll What do you think about the pitch conditions during Day 1 of the Test? Very challenging Moderately challenging Not challenging at all Sudharsan also revealed that Rishabh Pant was struggling with pain after being struck on the right foot during his aggressive 37-run knock. 'Rishabh Pant was in a lot of pain. He was batting really well today as well,' he remarked, hinting at a possible concern for the team management ahead of Day 2. India finished Day 1 at 264/4, with Ravindra Jadeja (19 not out) and Shardul Thakur (19 not out) holding fort. Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and Sudharsan's composed innings has given India a solid platform, but Pant's injury could be the key talking point moving forward. Ayush Mhatre Equals Brendon McCullum's 24-Year-Old Batting Record Of Scoring...
Last Updated: In the ongoing second youth Test against the English team, Mhatre scored 80 runs from 90 balls in the first innings and 124 runs from 80 balls in the second. Ayush Mhatre is the captain of the India U-19 team, and on Wednesday (July 23), the right-handed batter from Mumbai was on fire with the bat against the England U-19 side. He opened for the visitors in the second innings of the second youth Test at County Ground in Chelmsford and completed his century in just 64 balls. The century on Wednesday is Mhatre's second century in the youth Test. In the first innings of the first youth Test played at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham last week, Mhatre scored 102 runs from 115 balls. Mhatre, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, smacked 126 runs from 80 balls with the help of 13 fours and six sixes on Wednesday, and his batting strike rate was 157.50. In the first innings of the ongoing match, he scored 80 runs from 90 balls with a strike rate of 88.89. Mhatre, who is 18 years old, scored a total of 206 runs in the second youth Test from just 170 balls, and his strike rate in the game was 121.17. The batting strike rate of 121.17 helped Mhatre equal former New Zealand captain and star batter Brendon McCullum's 24-year-old batting record. During the 2001 New Zealand-South Africa youth Test played in Lincoln from February 4 to 7, McCullum also scored more than 200 runs in the match with a strike rate of 100+. In that fixture, McCullum scored 186 runs from 172 balls (SR 108.13) in the first innings after coming out to bat at No. 6 and 46 not out from 42 balls (SR 109.52) in the second innings. Interestingly, like Mhatre, McCullum was also the captain of the New Zealand team in that match. Suryavanshi out for 0 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was India's best batter in the five-match youth ODI series against the English team, failed to fire with the bat in the second innings of the second youth Test. He, in fact, was not able to open his account as well and was sent back to the pavilion for a first-ball duck by Alex Green. Green breached his defence and shattered his stumps. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 22:47 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
