General Motors has recalled over 41,000 electric Cadillac Lyriq SUVs for a software error that can cause the driver's instrument cluster display to intermittently go blank while driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall covers 2023-2024 Lyriq models produced from March 2022 through September 2024. An estimated 3% of the vehicles are believed to have the software error.
GM will issue an over-the-air software update for the video display control module to remedy the issue, but Lyriq customers can also have the update performed at a dealer for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14.
A blank video display can result in a loss of critical vehicle safety information, including the speedometer, warning lights, and loss of the rearview camera image, which can increase the risk of a crash, according to the recall report.
The report also states that 'continuous improvements to the display control module software significantly reduce the likelihood of a display control module malfunction' in the Lyriq.
GM opened a product investigation on March 4 after being notified by the NHTSA in late February that the agency had received customer complaints about display malfunctions in Lyriq models.
A subsequent field data review by GM investigators identified 1,209 VIN numbers for 2023-2025 Cadillac Lyriq SUVs potentially associated with fault. The majority of these incidents occurred in 2023-2024 models equipped with video display control modules that were not updated to the latest software version. GM received notice of these incidents between Aug. 23, 2022, and April 3, 2025, according to the NHTSA.
Following its internal investigation, GM's Safety Field Action Decision Authority decided to conduct a safety recall on May 22, but the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with blank instrument displays on Lyriq models.
The recall is the second for the 2023 Lyriq involving the instrument panel display. The electric SUV was previously recalled in September 2022 for a condition where the driver video display control module would occasionally perform a boot-up/shutdown cycle when the vehicle was parked and powered off. However, this sequence could be interrupted if a door was opened and cause the display to go blank. At the time, an estimated 100% of these models were believed to have the defect.
GM also recalled over 21,000 2023-2024 Lyriq models in August 2024 for a condition where the anti-lock braking system may activate unexpectedly. It was also related to software.
In March, GM issued another recall for over 10,000 model year 2025 Lyriq EVs because the vehicle owner's manual inaccurately described the rear outboard head restraints, which did not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Tesla shares slip after Musk says he will create a new political party

Tesla shares fell close to 7% Monday after Elon Musk announced plans to form his own political party, sparking concerns he will become further distracted by politics despite a tumultuous stint in the Trump administration. During a feud with President Trump over his spending bill, the Tesla chief executive wrote on his social media site, X, that he is starting what he called the America Party. Once close allies, Trump and Musk have recently been clashing over policy and traded jabs on social media. "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," Musk wrote on X over the weekend. "The America Party is formed to give you back your freedom." Read more: Tesla sales continue to slide amid competition and backlash against Elon Musk Whether aligned with Trump or against him, Musk's involvement with politics has alienated some investors who think his political maneuvering has distracted him from focusing on Tesla's success. Tesla shares have fallen more than 22% this year as Musk spent several months at the helm of the White House advisory team called the Department of Government Efficiency. The company's profit plunged 71% in the first quarter and vehicle sales dropped year over year. Many of Musk's liberal-leaning customers now denounce the brand in response to his role in the White House. Some celebrities even made a statement by ditching their Teslas. The resale value of used Teslas plummeted early this year, indicating a possible decrease in demand. Investors breathed a sigh of relief in May when Musk officially stepped down from his job in the federal government, but the subsequent fallout with Trump has continued to damage his company's reputation. Musk's latest move to establish his own political party suggests the tech billionaire is not backing down from a high-profile role in Washington. Read more: 'I've been betrayed.' Tesla drivers are pushing back on Elon Musk "I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. "He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States." Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives predicted that 5% to 10% of the brand damage sustained during Musk's time in the White House will be permanent. The impact spread outside the U.S. to Europe, where monthly sales in 32 countries fell nearly 50% in April. "Tesla shareholders are exhausted," Ives said in an interview Monday. "They need him to focus on Tesla. It's a soap opera that doesn't feel like it's ending anytime soon." Tesla shares closed Monday at $293, down 6.7%. Ramp closure in south Shreveport for morning hours. Check out where and when

South Shreveport residents will see a change in traffic this month with continued work on the Interstate 49 southbound off-ramp. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, work on the Southern Loop off-ramp will result in the ramp closure starting July 7 through July 31 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. DOTD said this is necessary to allow for construction on the new adjacent lane at the off-ramp. The purpose of this project is to provide increased traffic capacity at the off-ramp in an effort to improve safety by decreasing congestion and back-ups. According to DOTD, this entire project is expected to be complete in Fall 2025. More: New project coming to improve south Caddo Parish traffic.
