Thousands Of Chevrolet Silverado Pickups Could Host An Impromptu Bonfire

2019-2024 Silverados Recalled Over Brake Issue A new recall was issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yesterday, affecting 62,468 vehicles that may be at risk of catching fire. According to the NHTSA recall documents, Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty pickups (4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) produced from 2019-2024 may have a fault within their brake pressure sensor assemblies that could lead to a brake fluid leak. In the worst cases, after this brake fluid leaks into the brake pressure switch and causes a short circuit, a fire can break out. As a result, 'owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.' Chemical Issues Could Cause Fire Source: Chevrolet The recall places the blame for the issue on the use of an unauthorized chemical by the supplier of the brake assembly, and it appears to be something that GM has been working on for some time. A recall was issued in April 2023 to address a fragmenting zinc sealant that could interfere with a diaphragm that prevents brake fluid from leaking into the sensor wiring harness. Then, in October of 2024, a quality manager flagged an issue with a 2023 Silverado Medium Duty pickup 'that was exhibiting unintended brake pump activation.' This vehicle was not covered by the earlier recall, and when another similar report was filed over a 2021 vehicle, GM knew there was an issue. The automaker investigated in January 2025, and in March, it asked its supplier (Akron Rubber Development Lab) to test its components. Testing was completed by the end of April, by which point GM's investigator identified one alleged fire among 160 potentially related reports, prompting the recall. No accidents or injuries related to the issue have come to GM's attention. Only A Handful Of Vehicles Expected To Be Impacted Vehicles that were already recalled under the April 2023 notice will need to be repaired again, and owners can expect to receive notification letters in the mail from July 28, with secondary letters to be mailed once a remedy is available. When it is, dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness free of charge. Fortunately, although all owners impacted by the recall should play it safe and park outside and away from buildings, only around 1% of the recalled vehicles are expected to be affected. Silverado Medium Duty trucks from the 2024 model year are not affected since they were 'produced with a brake switch wire harness that includes a silicone sealant.' This new recall follows one that was issued at the end of last month for Cadillac Lyriq EVs that could have blank touchscreen displays, an issue that first appeared in 2022. Whether it's a novel EV or an old-school workhorse, recalls are just a part of production, and GM can at least take comfort in the knowledge that it's having a much better time with the NHTSA than Ford. The Very Complicated Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar Has a Fire Problem

The latest car news, reviews, and features. What's the saying? Two's company, but three's a crowd? It appears Mercedes-Benz has decided to intervene before any more of its AMG One hypercars burn to the ground, issuing a recall in its home country to address a fire risk related to its adjustable aerodynamics system. Per Mercedes, incorrectly installed (or missing) components of the hydraulic system that controls the rear wing can lead to a fluid leak, and hydraulic fluid has a habit of bursting into flames if you even look at it funny. The hydraulic rear wing is one of many adjustable components found on the AMG One, each of which interacts with the car's complex drive mode system. Apart from its outright performance, this song-and-dance is arguably the car's neatest party trick, and since the wing deploys based on several different parameters, it's not a simple set-and-forget feature that could be ignored by owners. Of the approximately 275 examples known to exist, 219 examples of them worldwide will have to be inspected to ensure their safe assembly. Mercedes-Benz stopped short of publicly associating the issue with the fires that have completely consumed two examples of its Formula 1 car for the street, but then its notice really doesn't include much of anything at all apart from a brief, dry description of the potential defect. You can look it up here; just bring your browser's translate feature. If we run with the assumption that this fix is related, it obviously came too late for the owners of the two now-lost examples that we know of. Um Mercedes-AMG ONE pegou fogo. The previous fire happened back in 2023, before many of the cars had been delivered. That car caught fire in a transporter while being moved between assembly facilities, Mercedes later confirmed. The company offered no insight as to the cause of that conflagration. Got a burning Mercedes in your driveway? Let us know at tips@

Urgent fish recall in three states that could leave people PARALYZED for life

The FDA has announced a recall set at the highest risk level of smoked herring found to contain the bacteria that cause botulism, which can cause paralysis and death. The P East Trading Corp of Bronx, N distributed 81 cases of the fish across retailers in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The fish were over five inches in length and were not gutted, making them more susceptible to contamination with Clostridium botulinum spores. The FDA's classification, Class 1, is the most serious type of recall, occurring when there is a reasonable probability that consuming or using a product will cause serious health effects or death. The Salted Smoked Split Herring was packaged in 18lb wooden boxes with the container code Lot 1 PRC5073. It was manufactured by Sea Star Seafood Ltd in Canada. There have been no reported illnesses linked to the fish; however, due to the severe and potentially life-threatening nature of the bacteria, consumers are advised not to eat it and should return it to the store where they purchased it. The recall came after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector sampled the fish. An investigation later confirmed the fish was not properly gutted, a concern because the toxic bacteria 'are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera [internal organs] than any other portion of the fish.' Botulism is a life-threatening infection that causes a range of symptoms approximately one day after exposure. Those symptoms include blurred or double vision, slurred speech, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness. 'People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention,' the FDA said. The agency stated that the fish was repacked by stores in deli-style or retail packaging, rather than its sealed, original packaging, which risks improper handling that could cause temperature fluctuations or cross-contamination. It was sold in 69 stores: 60 in New York, eight in New Jersey, and one in Connecticut. The affected products have likely reached thousands of people who shop in these stores. If left untreated, the toxin can disrupt communication between the brain and muscles after entering the bloodstream. Botulism and the bacteria that causes it are rare, causing about 200 cases per year with a death rate of three to five percent. But this is not the first recall of its kind to be issued this year. In February, the FDA announced a recall of lots of canned tuna distributed by Tri-Union Seafoods and sold under the Genova, Van Camp's, H-E-B, and Trader Joe's brand names. Botulism binds to nerve endings and cuts critical proteins that usually help release a chemical that tells muscles to contract. Without that chemical release, muscles fail to receive the message, and paralysis begins. It starts in the face and descends to the throat, the limbs, the diaphragm, and eventually, the muscles that control breathing. The infection can be cured with an antitoxin, which neutralizes the toxin that has infiltrated the bloodstream, if administered within 24 to 72 hours of symptom onset. A patient may also require mechanical ventilation for weeks or even months. With swift treatment, the death rate of botulism falls to five to 10 percent. Without the antitoxin, over 50 percent of patients die. Claudia de Albuquerque Celada, a 23-year-old Brazilian woman working in Colorado, was left paralyzed and on a ventilator after contracting botulism from improperly handled store-bought soup. She was placed on a ventilator after the neurotoxin paralyzed her respiratory muscles. She first experienced blurred vision, dizziness, and difficulty breathing before full-body paralysis set in within 24 hours. Health officials traced the case to a pre-packaged soup stored in a plastic jar, though lab tests on the product came back negative, suggesting the toxin formed due to improper refrigeration, insufficient reheating, or leaving leftovers unrefrigerated too long. Historical outbreaks of botulism linked to improperly processed fish have occurred both in the US and around the world, often linked to fermentation, salt-curing, or storage methods that inadvertently encourage the production of toxins. In the US, federal regulations require the proper gutting and processing of fish to mitigate risks from C. botulinum. The FDA enforces strict Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point requirements for seafood manufacturers. They must prove that their safety measures actually work, using science-backed processes and have to maintain records to demonstrate these measures are consistently effective.

Mercedes-AMG Recalls Most of Its $2.8M Hypercars Over Fire Hazard

Mercedes-Benz Recalls Are Few, But Important Recalls aren't something you usually associate with Mercedes-Benz. The brand has maintained a relatively clean track record in recent years, with only occasional hiccups, such as the recent issues with the high-end GLE and GLS SUVs involving potentially detached trim panels that could become road hazards. But while those models are made in the thousands and often share parts with less expensive offerings, the situation becomes far more serious when it involves a $2.8 million, hand-assembled hypercar. 0:00 / 0:09 2025 Audi S3 vs Mercedes-AMG CLA 35: the executive decision Watch More That's exactly the case now, as Mercedes-AMG is issuing a global recall for the AMG One, a car best known for packing Formula One tech into a lap record-setting, road-legal package. The Problem Isn't With the Complex Engine According to Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), nearly 80% of all AMG One units are affected – 219 out of the 275 produced, to be exact. The issue has nothing to do with the car's complex 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid V6, which is adapted from Lewis Hamilton's F1 power unit. Instead, the concern lies at the rear of the car: the active spoiler system. The spoiler is hydraulically operated, and several cars appear to be missing a critical component, which is a small pin or locking mechanism meant to keep the hydraulic line secured. Without the pin, there's a risk of hydraulic fluid leaking. That's especially dangerous in a mid-engine car, where lines run near extremely hot components. If flammable fluid escapes in the wrong place, a fire is probable. The cars affected were built between December 2022 and May 2025, with most units delivered in Germany and a smaller number scattered globally. Mercedes-Benz will inspect the spoiler's hydraulic system, check if the pin is present and secure, and install one if needed. The job takes about 90 minutes per car. The KBA has stated there are no confirmed fire incidents tied directly to this defect. However, if you could recall, a couple of AMG Ones have already gone up in flames – one just a few weeks ago in Germany, and another during transport in the UK back in 2023. In both cases, the exact cause of the fires remains murky. The German unit reportedly burned roadside, while the UK incident involved a prototype or incomplete car in a trailer that was destroyed. Investigators haven't officially connected these incidents to the hydraulic issue. Source: Mercedes-Benz About the Author Jacob Oliva View Profile

Anker partners with Apple battery supplier ATL after massive power bank recall

Chinese charging peripherals maker Anker Innovations has forged a strategic partnership with battery maker Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), moving swiftly to secure a new battery cell supplier after jointly recalling more than a million power banks in one of the country's largest consumer electronics recalls in recent years. The Shenzhen-based gadget maker planned to purchase an initial batch of 45 million lithium-ion batteries from ATL, according to a statement published on Anker's website on Wednesday. The deal is a shift for Anker's supply chain as it seeks to restore consumer confidence in the safety of its products. Anker is 'deepening supply chain collaboration with a leading battery cell supplier to take a major step towards a premium consumer electronics energy solution', the company said. The move comes after Anker and rival Romoss last week recalled more than 1.2 million power banks, halting sales of affected models and urging customers to seek refunds or replacements. The companies attributed the recall to defective battery cells from an unnamed supplier, which posed overheating and fire risks. Earlier reports linked the defective battery cells to Apex Wuxi, a subsidiary of American battery maker Amprius Technologies and Wuxi Industrial Development Group. When asked, Anker would not confirm that Apex batteries were the source of the problem, but said it had ceased doing business with the company. Apex Wuxi is one of the top battery cell providers to Chinese power bank makers, according to consultancy Chongdiantiou, which focuses on the country's battery industry. The Romoss PAC20-392 and Anker A1681, two of the recalled products, both used Apex batteries, according to previous Chongdiantiou teardown reports.
