B'desh: Awami League condemns brutal assault on family members of party supporter
The Awami League on Tuesday condemned a brutal assault on a Union member's entire family in Bagerhat district of Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) due to his support for the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party.
'In Bagerhat's Bemorta Union, BNP terrorists unleashed a savage rampage on the family of Saheb Ali, a local Union Member simply because of his support for the Awami League. Failing to find Saheb Ali at home, the attackers slashed and hacked his entire family. His elder son Riyad and younger son Rajib had the tendons of their legs severed, while his wife's arm tendons were cut. Their entire house was set on fire and reduced to ashes,' read a statement issued by the Awami League.
The Awami League highlighted that the area now stands as a grim witness to 'BNP's fire-terror and machete violence.'
'How much longer will the nation endure BNP's reign of blood, fire, and fear? The people of Bangladesh demand justice. These killers must be held accountable — and peace must be restored to this land through decisive punishment,' the Awami League remarked.
In a separate development, earlier on Monday the Awami League mentioned that in the Monirampur Upazila of Jessore district in Bangladesh, their party activist Subrata Deb Nath has become the latest victim of a savage attack by Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP. The party stated that the victim is now fighting for his life in the ICU.
'The attack took place around 9 PM at Subrata's residence in Bakoshpol village, Monirampur Sadar Union (Ward-6), Jessore. Led by Jubo Dal (BNP's youth wing) leader Rahim, a group of 10–12 armed assailants stormed the house with machetes, Chinese axes, and hammers, launching a sudden and violent assault. They also looted Bangladeshi taka 40,000 in cash and a gold chain before fleeing the scene,' the Awami League stated.
Revealing that this horrific act is not an isolated incident, the Awami League said that BNP-Jubo Dal is systematically unleashing 'terror and chaos' across the country through coordinated attacks on Awami League activists.
'Their actions are not only criminal—they are part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to eliminate Awami League's presence and destabilise Bangladesh," said the party.

Gadkari steps in as flooded RuBs trigger public outcry
Nagpur: Faced with years of neglect and bureaucratic buck-passing over the maintenance of waterlogged underbridges, Union minister for road transport and highways and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to immediately take over Manish Nagar and Somalwada RuBs from MahaMetro. Both structures have drawn criticism from motorists, particularly the Manish Nagar RuB, which gets flooded even with a brief drizzle. The intervention comes as citizens grow increasingly frustrated over near-daily waterlogging across key RuBs in the city. The NMC, which long refused to assume responsibility for the MahaMetro-constructed RuBs, has now relented under Gadkari's orders. What was meant to be an infrastructure upgrade for smoother commutes has now turned into a public safety concern. Speaking after inaugurating a flyover here, Reddy, in a veiled attack on opposition BRS, said hurdles have been created to the state government's effort to generate five lakh jobs by developing 400 acres beside the Gachibowli stadium (adjacent to University of Hyderabad) and attracting global investments. Such hurdles are only temporary, he said. The land parcel was allocated to some private persons in 2002-03 and the state government pursued the matter in Supreme Court in 2024 and got it back for the state government, he said. 'The government would not go back because some caused hurdles. Our government will make an effort not only to set up IT companies on a large scale but to generate lakhs of jobs by getting back that land by fighting for justice not only in legislative bodies but (also) in courts,' he said. Though people elected the Congress government for five years, some are trying to stall development in the city by filing litigation in courts against the government and 'throwing mud' at those who are working for development, he said. He said lakhs of jobs have been created following the development of the Financial District and Knowledge Park in the IT hub of the city. Highlighting pollution in Delhi and the civic problems in cities, including Bengaluru and Chennai, he said Telangana should plan for addressing pollution and others in Hyderabad. The high levels of pollution in Delhi arose as rulers in the past did not make effective plans, he said. 'A situation arose in Delhi where it is difficult to live. The situation of people not being able to live in the national capital of such a big country cropped up as the then rulers did not make proper plans in Delhi,' he said. 'That's why, every EV vehicle purchased in the city, you will not have tax of even one rupee,' he said. The chief minister said the state government would request Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is visiting Telangana on Sunday, to grant permission to projects pending with the Centre for approvals, including Metro Rail – Phase 2, Musi Rejuvenation and Regional Ring Road (RRR) projects. The CM criticised Union Minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy for not responding to pleas made by him repeatedly for the approval of the pending projects by the Centre. Reddy said he also visited Kishan Reddy's residence in Delhi with the requests, but they yielded no results. The CM questioned the NDA government at the Centre for not approving the projects proposed by the Telangana government. The Centre granted permissions to the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat, Yamuna cleaning in Delhi and Namami Gange in Uttar Pradesh but did not approve funds for the Musi project in Hyderabad, he said.
