SAUDI boxing bigwig Turki Alalshikh "got involved" in the UFC's ill-fated bid to book a super-fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, it's been claimed.
The huge heavyweight title unification bout officially fell through last weekend when the former undisputed titleholder announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

The UFC did everything in their power to make the mammoth melee, even agreeing to Jones' demands to be paid "F**K YOU MONEY".
Frustratingly for Dana White and the rest of the UFC brass, Jones performed a U-turn on the bout after agreeing to unify the belts.
And according to veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, the UFC were reluctant to meet Jones' demands for a historic payday until Saudi supremo Alalshikh entered the fray.
During the latest episode of The Ariel Helwani Show, he said: "Here's what we can unequivocally say.

'intoxicated' Jon Jones charged with fleeing crash where woman 'lacking clothes' found
"I told you months ago, the UFC wanted to make this fight.
"They did everything in their power to make this fight. Jon Jones asked for $30 million.
"They didn't want to give him $30 million (£22m). They negotiated. I heard from one source that even Turki [Alalshikh] got involved.
"He wanted to make the fight. They eventually got to the $30 million.

"Jon said he was in. A couple of days later, he said he was out. And once he said he was out, he was never back in."
Alalshikh's alleged involvement comes as no surprise given the working relationship he has with the UFC's parent group, the TKO Group.
Dana White confirms Jon Jones has retired from UFC with Tom Aspinall the new heavyweight champion
Jones' retirement, which was announced minutes before it was revealed he was recently charged with leaving the scene of a non-deadly accident, has resulted in Wigan warrior Aspinall being elevated from interim to undisputed heavyweight champion.
And the Atherton assassin has vowed to get the division moving again after Jones held it hostage for the best part of two years.
He said: "I am going to keep this thing as active as possible.
"I want to be the best heavyweight to ever walk the face of the Earth.
"I'm gonna defend this thing as many times as I possibly can and I'm gonna keep you guys entertained.
"I'm going to give back to everybody who has shown me support over the last year, over the last five years and over the last ten years.
"We're gonna see an active defending UFC heavyweight undisputed champion going forward."

I was a Grand National jockey shown ‘lifeless' at Aintree after horrific fall – now I'm making a comeback for my kids
It's all for a very good cause - and his two boys NOT DON YET I was a Grand National jockey shown 'lifeless' at Aintree after horrific fall – now I'm making a comeback for my kids Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FORMER Grand National jockey shown 'lifeless' on the Aintree turf to millions after a devastating fall is ignoring doctors and making a shock return to the saddle. Davy Condon, who looked destined to be racing's next big thing after being snapped up by Willie Mullins upon leaving school, was paralysed in the horrendous 2015 spill. Condon was one of the top riders at the time, a teenage sensation-turned-Cheltenham Festival winner and Group 1 champion. But his world came crashing down that Saturday afternoon ten years ago when he was launched from Portrait King at the third-last fence in a Grand National won by Many Clouds. "I was lying on the ground. I couldn't move," he recalled. He spent two nights in hospital as a result with doctors ultimately telling him it was too dangerous to ride again. Condon officially called it quits later that month and admitted to 'feeling lost' in the days afterwards. But a decade later he has decided to risk it all again and race at the Curragh in Ireland later this year. Condon will don his silks, lace up his boots and grab his whip for the Pat Smullen Charity Race on August 30. The contest raised funds for Cancer Trials Ireland and is run in honour of nine-time champion Irish jockey Pat Smullen, who died from pancreatic cancer in September 2020. Condon, dad to two young boys aged four and six, said he was moved to race again partly because of them. He told the Racing Post they never saw him in the saddle - and now can't wait to see why dad used to be such a big deal. Condon, who worked as an assistant for Gordon Elliott before going to break in horses for Shadwell in Dubai only to return as assistant to Cheltenham Festival-winning trianer Cian Collins, said: "I wanted to ride in a charity race as a kind of mid-life crisis thing! "I have two young boys who are four and six and they never saw me riding. "They see the photos and are always asking me questions. "I told my cousin Paul Townend I wanted to do a charity race and he pointed me in the direction of this one at the Curragh. "I was emotional telling the children I was going to be in the race. "They were jumping around the place, all excited." Condon won millions in the saddle, having been signed by Mullins at an early age. He was a Grade 1 winner under the all-conquering Closutton boss, landing the 2007 Supreme on 40-1 outsider Ebaziyan. Condon and Mullins also had success with the likes of serial winner Homer Wells, Holy Orders, Our Ben and Jayo. But it was with Noel Meade and Gordon Elliott he would enjoy later victories, his final Grade 1 being the Irish Daily Mirror Novice Hurdle aboard Morning Assembly at Punchestown in April 2013. The deadly plant growing across the UK GROW AWAY Farmer warns of 'deadliest' plant growing on UK soil that's 'enough to kill' – do you have it in your garden? The highly poisonous plant deadly to humans Hemlock is a highly poisonous flowering plant which can be fatal to humans, even in small amounts. The flower affects the body's nervous system, eventually causing death by respiratory failure. While the plant looks harmless, with umbrella-like clusters of white flowers, even the smallest amount can be enough to kill. Advertisement According to The Wildlife Trusts: "Hemlock has a repellent smell when its leaves are crushed, helping to ensure that accidental poisonings don't occur very often - even livestock studiously avoid it." Farmer sends his warning Upon discovering the plant in his new field, the farmer took to social media to warn his followers. He said: "I have just bought a field to live in and I've realised it is full of poison." He continued by explaining that Hemlock is commonly mistaken for wild carrot. Advertisement But added: "Just eating any single part of this plant is enough to kill me. "The amount of this you have to eat to die is realistically quite small. "Four or five leaves, done. Game over." Expert Gardening Hacks for a Pet-Friendly Summer Garden His advice was to mow the plants down and you will most likely be ok, but take care to not get any of the sap on your skin because it will blister. Advertisement The farmer concluded: "So, all in all, if you've got this stuff growing, be careful." What is Hemlock? What is Hemlock? Hemlock is a notoriously poisonous plant often found in damp places, such as ditches and riverbanks. It can be identified by its umbrella-like clusters of white flowers in summer. The plant is most commonly found in England and Wales, while being more scarce in Scotland and Northern Ireland. What are the dangers? Poisoning can occur if you accidentally infest the plant. Symptoms can range from vomiting to seizures to respiratory failure. Most of the time, hemlock is only poisonous when ingested, however, you should be careful when handling the plant. In very rare cases, hemlock poisoning can occur after the toxins enter your bloodstream. What to do if you come into contact with it: If you think you may have accidentally ingested poison hemlock, you should call your healthcare provider right away. There is no antidote, however, treatment may include: Mechanical ventilation if you are having trouble breathing. Antiseizure medication to control seizures. Hemodialysis for renal failure. Digestive system cleanse to get rid of the toxin. IV to prevent dehydration and provide nutrition. You can prevent poisoning by getting rid of any hemlock you have in your garden. Sources: The Wildlife Trusts and Cleveland Clinic Symptoms of Hemlock Symptoms of Hemlock poisoning include sweating, vomiting, dilated pupils, dry mouth, rapid heartbeat and high blood pressure.
