Fever Player on Temporary Leave Draws 'Problem' Statement From FIBA AmeriCup
Fever Player on Temporary Leave Draws 'Problem' Statement From FIBA AmeriCup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever will be without Caitlin Clark yet again on Saturday when they return to action in a home game against the Los Angeles Sparks. This is after the 23-year-old guard was unable to recover from her lingering groin injury in time, thereby forcing her to miss her fifth consecutive game. Advertisement Apart from Clark, Indiana will also be missing the services of veteran center-forward Damiris Dantas for Saturday's game as the 32-year-old continues to be away from the team. Dantas' contract with the Fever has been suspended as she represents Brazil in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile. The Sparks game will be Dantas' fourth missed contest amid her international obligations. Damiris Dantas of the Indiana Fever shoots the ball against a Seattle Storm defender. Christine Tannous/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Dantas and Brazil were in action on Friday in the quarterfinal of the tournament against Mexico. They made easy work of their opponents, 84-61, en route to booking their spot in the semifinal. Dantas went off again on Friday, registering 24 points on 10-of-23 shooting, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two triples in 34 minutes of action. Advertisement Her strong performance drew a reaction from FIBA AmeriCup on social media. "Damiris is a PROBLEM," FIBA AmeriCup declared on Instagram. View the original article to see embedded media. It wasn't just Dantas who dominated against Mexico, though. Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso was actually the driving force for Brazil in this one with a monster 22-point, 16-rebound double-double. Brazil remains undefeated in the tournament after five games played, and is now just two wins away from winning the championship. They will return to the court on Saturday for their semifinal matchup against Argentina. Nets sign 19th overall pick Nolan Traoré to rookie scale contract
French guard Nolan Traoré, the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, signed his rookie-scale contract with the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, the team announced. Traoré was the Champions League Best Young Player after averaging 12.2 points, 4.7 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 44 appearances with Saint-Quentin in France. He registered seven 20-point games, including a 25-point effort on May 9. Advertisement He will make $3,811,560 next season, according to Spotrac. The 19-year-old put himself on the radar after a great offseason last year, representing France in the Nike Hoop Summit and FIBA U18 EuroBasket. He averaged 14 points, 9.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds on 42.9% shooting from 3-point range as France finished fifth in Finland. Traoré was highly touted entering the draft because of his potential to be an elite playmaker at the next level. He plays with excellent court vision, often flourishing by running offenses against high-level competition due to his instincts and passing ability. The 6-foot-4 standout is among a crowded draft class for the Nets, joining Egor Demin (eighth pick), Drake Powell (22nd pick), Ben Saraf (26th pick) and Danny Wolf (27th pick). With the exception of Powell, who is pending a trade with Atlanta, they have each signed their contracts. Advertisement Traoré will suit up with the Nets for at least five games in the NBA Summer League, beginning on July 10 against the Oklahoma City Thunder (5:30 p.m. EDT, ESPN2). Will Caitlin Clark play Saturday? Indiana Fever update groin injury
Caitlin Clark continues to mend a left groin injury that will now sideline her for a fifth straight game. The Indiana Fever (9-8) listed Clark as "out" in their Friday evening injury report ahead of Saturday's home date against the Los Angeles Sparks (5-13). It's the ninth regular season game that Clark has missed during the 2025 WNBA season and the 10th including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game against the Minnesota Lynx. Fever head coach Stephanie White commented on Clark's injury recovery earlier on Friday following Indiana's practice before Clark's status for Saturday's contest was revealed. "Well, we went through semi-live shooting drills. I mean, it wasn't really live. It was semi-live shooting drills. Still hasn't gone full-speed in a practice or a live defensive group, but she's been getting some 3-on-3 work on her own. I think the biggest thing is she's stated she's not a fan of minutes restrictions. "If there's going to be a minutes restriction, maybe we'll hold her another game. It's evaluating her again in the morning, seeing what she's done with however many days there have been of more loading and make a decision from there. But, again, I prioritize her long-term health and wellness and making sure that when she comes back, she's a 100 percent," White said. Clark previously missed five games with a left quadriceps strain. Clark, the 2024 No. 1 pick, is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds in nine games this season, shooting 39.0% from the field and 29.5% from 3-point range. She recently was named an All-Star starter and captain by virtue of receiving the most fan votes. The Fever tip-off against the Sparks at 6 p.m. CT Saturday night in a game that will be televised on NBA TV.
