Manipur: Liquor worth ₹1 crore seized on NH-37 near Awangkhul; two arrested
The Assam Rifles intercepted their vehicle on National Highway (NH)-37 near Awangkhul and seized over 32,000 bottles and cans of liquor, along with the truck.
An officer said the two were handed over to the state police for further investigation.

Manipur has been a dry state since the enactment of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act in 1991. The law, however, provides exemptions for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities to brew liquor under their traditional customs and customary laws.
In September 2022, the state cabinet partially lifted the prohibition, allowing the sale and consumption of alcohol in district headquarters, hotels with a minimum of 20 beds, and permitting the export of locally brewed country liquor.

Despite the prohibition, liquor continues to be widely available in the black market across the state. In the fight against drug abuse, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles and paramilitary forces have stepped up their operations. Authorities said such operations will continue to target both cross-border smuggling networks and insurgent activity in the region.
A joint team of Borobekra Police Station (BBK-PS), the 38th Battalion of Assam Rifles, and A/20 CRPF seized over 15kg of suspected contraband drugs from a passenger engine boat on the Barak River near Chaudharykhal village in Jiribam district on Monday.

Manipur Police sets up STF to tackle illegal immigrants
Guwahati: Manipur Police has formed special task forces (STFs) in all districts to rigorously identify and take appropriate legal action against illegal immigrants residing in the state — including nationals from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the Rohingya community from Myanmar. Police said the STFs have been formed in all districts "to strengthen enforcement". "Manipur Police has taken up the issue of illegal immigrants — including Bangladeshi, Rohingya (Myanmar nationals), and Pakistani nationals — with utmost seriousness in view of its growing importance," the police said in a statement issued on Friday. It added that revised instructions outlining the procedure for detection, restriction of movement, and deportation of such individuals have been issued by the police headquarters and circulated to all district superintendents of police across the state. "In addition, a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) for verification and detection of illegal immigrants, including Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals, has been provided to ensure uniform and coordinated action at the district level," it stated. Senior officers are conducting regular and strict reviews of the progress and effectiveness of the actions being taken in this regard. The intensified focus follows eviction drives in neighboring Assam and concerns over the possibility of displaced illegal immigrants entering Manipur.

'Such illegal migrants shall have to be kept in put at secured designated locations for providing shelter and humanitarian support without allowing them to get mixed up or naturalised with local Populace'.The advisory stated, 'All such illegal migrants shall be deported after following due procedures. All Deputy Commissioners shall constitute District level Committee with members from District Police to conduct checking at all suspected locations and shall conduct regular review of the same. Deputy Commissioners shall regularly monitor the Exit-Entry Points under the Border Pass System. Tracing of defaulters/ overstayed cases shall be done through District Police.'It added that the district level Task Force for checking of illegal migrants shall have to be made operational at the earliest. Assam Rifles Recovers 1.97 Kg Drugs Worth Rs 6.6 Crore In Mizoram
Aizawl (Mizoram): In a targeted operation, Assam Rifles recovered 1.97 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 6.6 crore from the Tuikhuahtlang area of Aizawl, Mizoram, officials said. Three individuals were apprehended during the joint operation. According to the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) [HQ IGAR (E)], the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs. "Based on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles, Aizawl Police, and the Narcotics Department established a vehicle checkpost to search for vehicles involved in drug trafficking on 24th July 2025, in the general area of Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl," HQ IGAR (E) said in a statement. "During the conduct of operation, the team recovered 1.97 kg of Methamphetamine Tablets worth Rs 6.6 Crores hidden in the vehicle, which was occupied by three individuals", the statement added. The seized contraband and the apprehended individuals were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Aizawl for further legal proceedings. Earlier, Assam Rifles, in a targeted operation on Tuesday, seized heroin worth Rs 9.75 crore near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, said Assam Rifles in an official statement. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding narcotics trafficking, the security forces launched the operation in the general area of Crossing Point-1, Zokhawthar, and recovered 1.227 kilograms of Heroin No. 4, with an estimated market value of Rs 9.75 crore, from a TATA Intra V10 pickup vehicle. The vehicle was seized on the spot. The recovered contraband and the vehicle have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further legal proceedings. Further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Assam Rifles celebrated National Flag Day at Tamenglong district, Manipur, at Don Bosco High School and several Company Operating Bases (COBs) in the Area of Responsibility (AOR). The event brought together students, teachers, and local people to spread awareness about the importance of the National Flag. A total of 600 local populace, including students, participated in the events organised within the AOR. Assam Rifles continues to organise such events to build a strong bond with the local people and inspire the young generation to be proud and responsible citizens of the country.
