Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: HF-L girls lacrosse

Yahoo06-06-2025
After securing the program's 15th sectional title in 18 years, the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the HF-L girls lacrosse team.
The Cougars earned a brick by defeating Pal-Mac 9-6 in the Class C championship game.
'All of these kids are my own kids, and my husband feels the same way,' assistant coach Aria Goodberlet said. 'Every kid on this team, we treat every kid like they're our own. It's a blessing to watch these girls grow and see what they're capable of.'
Freshman Harper Jacob, an All-Tournament selection, led the way for the Cougars with three goals to earn 84 points so far this season.
Junior Shaye Angelo, committed to Duke University, scored two goals and was named tournament MVP. Angelo has been playing varsity since eighth grade and has a season-high 137 points going into regionals.
'Everyone tonight stepped up, played their role,' Angelo said. 'We had some awesome plays by younger classmen. Everyone played their role and we came together tonight.'
Senior Caroline Smith has also been a force on defense for HF-L this season. After the win, Smith talked about HF-L's lacrosse dynasty, as the boys also ended this season with a sectional title.
'It's very special. I think it says a lot about our program, about how everyone is just one big family and just hard workers,' Smith said.
Head coach Kristin Butka coached the junior varsity team for 15 years, but this year is her first season at the helm of the varsity program.
'Being a part of this program for 15 years, I've gotten to see each and every one of these girls grow from when they're itty-bitty and grow into these amazing young women,' Butka said. 'They truly played for each other tonight. Watching them put pieces together and pulling out the win at the end against a very strong Pal-Mac team, I could not be more proud of this team.'
Congratulations to Coach Butka and the HF-L Cougars for being named the Spotlight Team of the Week!

Who is the Titans' Mount Rushmore since 2000?

The NFL has a storied history filled with memorable games, outstanding plays, and players whose exploits stand the test of time. Every franchise has a history that has set the standard for today's players. The Tennessee Titans have a complex history, with their roots deeply entrenched in NFL lore. From their early days as the 'Luv Ya Blue' Houston Oilers and then their transition to Tennessee, many stars roamed their sidelines and left their imprint on the franchise. From Earl Campbell to Warren Moon, and from Steve McNair to Derrick Henry, these all-time greats paved the way for young players to look up to. It is truly a fantastic collection of talent. But if you, the reader, were to populate the Titans' Mount Rushmore of historic players, who would you choose? Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report took on that challenge and came up with the Titans' Mount Rushmore since 2000. Tennessee Titans DL Jurrell Casey RB Derrick Henry RB Chris Johnson QB Steve McNair Two selections for the Tennessee Titans were relatively easy. Derrick Henry is one of the most unique running backs in NFL history, while the late, great Steve McNair helped usher Tennessee into the current century. McNair's career began in 1995, when the franchise was still the Houston Oilers. He also led the Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999, the season before our cutoff. However, he had six terrific seasons in Tennessee after 2000 that included three Pro Bowls and one league MVP (which he split with Peyton Manning). Henry, who joined the Ravens in 2024, still possesses the scariest combination of size and breakaway speed we've seen in a modern running back. In eight years with the Titans, he racked up 10,960 yards from scrimmage, 93 total touchdowns, four Pro Bowls and one Offensive Player of the Year award. Filling out the rest of the foursome was a bit trickier since the post-2000 Titans have had some standouts but few truly great players. Linebacker Keith Bulluck and tackle Michael Roos earned consideration, but we settled on Jurrell Casey and Chris Johnson. Casey was a star defensive tackle for nine seasons in Tennessee and racked up five consecutive Pro Bowls between 2015 and 2019. Johnson only spent six seasons with the Titans, but he was a 1,000-yard rusher in all six campaigns and earned three Pro Bowl nods. He also earned the nickname CJ2k in 2009, when he rushed for a league-high 2,006 yards, logged 503 receiving yards and was named Offensive Player of the Year. The Titans have a long history of outstanding running backs and both Henry and Johnson were feared during their time in Nashville and both had record-setting seasons that created an air of excitement around the team. It is unfortunate that Henry moved onto to the Baltimore Ravens, but no matter what, he will be remembered for his dominate production for the Titans. McNair was also a no-brainer, his combination of leadership and talent may never be duplicated in Nashville. In many ways, the Titans have never truly replaced McNair and have been searching for their franchise leader since his departure. They drafted Cam Ward, who has drawn comparisons to McNair throughout the offseason, and the team has high hopes that he can be the answer they have been searching for. Casey was an interesting selection, and it is hard to argue with the logic. In his prime, he was the anchor for the Titans defense and a stalwart in the community. Not only did he make it to five Pro Bowls, but he was a six-time team captain and two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. More importantly, he bled Titan Blue, and will forever be remembered that way. Who would you select for the Titans' Mount Rushmore if you had the chance to do it? Let us here at Titans Wire know your choices.

Does Cowboys' Dak Prescott Have An MVP-Type Season In Him For 2025?

Does Cowboys' Dak Prescott Have An MVP-Type Season In Him For 2025? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, in 2025, has everything in front of him when it comes to how he can shift the narratives around him. Advertisement The lack of playoff success, his ability in the regular season against the "big dogs", and everything else in between, Prescott has his fair share of skeptics. And even in 2023, when he finished second in MVP voting after a 4,516-yard, 36-touchdown year, some still found a way to criticise him in the regular season. So, as we turn for 2025, fans are all wondering ... does Dak have another run like that in him? Bleacher Report thinks so, given he did in 2023. "Just a year ago, the highly-paid veteran led the league with 36 touchdown passes while posting a 105.6 passer rating as the MVP runner-up," Bleacher Report writes. Advertisement Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) runs the ball against the Atlanta Falcons in the second quarter at Mercedes-Benz Davis-Imagn Images Dak's top weapons in 2023 consisted of Lamb (1,749 yards, 12 touchdowns), Jake Ferguson (761 yards, five touchdowns), and Brandin Cooks (657 yards, eight touchdowns), while Tony Pollard (1,005 yards, six touchdowns) was the leading rusher. Does Prescott have equivalent weapons in 2025? Well, George Pickens is a huge upgrade over Cooks, to go with Lamb and likely Jalen Tolbert as the top three receivers, along with Ferguson again, so I say yes. The run game, though, is a question mark, as Pollard was lightning out of the backfield. Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams have their skeptics, and Jaydon Blue has some nice traits. The offensive line consisted of Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, and Terence Steele. Although this year's version isn't as good as that year's, it is an improvement over 2024, we think. Advertisement Putting all of that together, is Dak capable of putting together another MVP-type season? Absolutely. But whether he can stay healthy enough to do it is another question entirely. Could Commanders' Jayden Daniels' 'Wild Trajectory' Lead To MVP In 2025?

Could Commanders' Jayden Daniels' 'Wild Trajectory' Lead To MVP In 2025? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels has set the bar for 2025 ridiculously high after his rookie season. Advertisement A 12-5 regular season record, two playoff wins, an NFC Championship appearance, and winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, that is some season. Now, with the NFL world knowing he's coming, can he replicate his feats? Or better yet, could he win the MVP award? Yes, we know that is a stunningly high bar for a second-year quarterback, but that is what Daniels has in front of him in 2025, and he has the coaching staff and weapons around him to give it a serious nudge. And Bleacher Report thinks he can win it. "The 2024 No. 2 overall pick is riding a wild trajectory after lighting up the league as a rookie," Bleacher Report writes. "Now, he has even more support and experience around him ahead of Year 2." Advertisement Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden DanielsEric Hartline-Imagn Images Now, Daniels' stats of 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions will have to improve, and if he can rush for roughly the same as he did last year (891 yards, six touchdowns), then he might be in the conversation. But the biggest thing is the Commanders would have to keep winning. Another 12-win season is likely the floor, meaning he'll have the franchise in the playoffs, potentially as a high seed. That will also work in his favor. However, we do have the dreaded sophomore slump theory dangling over him as he enters Year 2, so he would have to buck that trend, something C.J. Stroud failed to do last year. Advertisement Jayden has all the tools to continue his ascension in 2025, and if everything goes right, who knows, maybe there is an MVP win in there, too. Yes, it's a long shot, but who saw last year coming?
