Paul Simon, 83, reveals major health update after 'chronic and intense pain'

Daily Mail10 hours ago
Legendary singer Paul Simon offered a major health update on Thursday, just days after he canceled several concerts due to his condition.
The 83-year-old singer revealed last week that he had to cancel two performances in Philadelphia, due to, ' chronic and intense back pain.'
He shared a new update through a statement on his Instagram page, where he revealed the surgery he underwent was successful.
'As previously reported, Paul Simon underwent a surgical procedure this week to alleviate severe back pain that he has been experiencing for some time,' the statement began.
'Thanks to a great team of doctors, the surgery went well, as expected,' the statement added, before revealing he'll need more rest.
'However, it has become clear that he will need one additional day of rest and recuperation to ensure he is able to perform at the top of his ability in Long Beach,' the statement continued.
'As previously reported, Paul Simon underwent a surgical procedure this week to alleviate severe back pain that he has been experiencing for some time,' the statement began.
'Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to move the previously scheduled show on Monday, July 7 at the The Terrace Theater in Long Beach, to Tuesday, July 8,' the statement added.
'We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Paul is looking forward to seeing everyone in Long Beach on Tuesday,' the singer's team continued.
The statement added that all tickets purchased for Monday will be honored for the Tuesday show.
'For those unable to revise their plans, refunds are available at point of purchase,' the statement concluded.
Last week, Simon shared a similar statement, just hours before his performance in Philadelphia.
'Paul has been struggling with chronic and intense back pain,' the statement read.
'Today it became unmanageable and demands immediate attention. Unfortunately, we have to cancel these shows at this time, as we don't have the ability to reschedule them,' the statement continued.
'However, we are hopeful after this minor surgical procedure which has been scheduled in the next few days, Paul will be able to complete the tour as well as look into returning to make up these dates,' the statement explained.
'We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Paul is looking forward to seeing everyone in Long Beach on Tuesday,' the singer's team continued.
'In the meantime, please go to your point of purchase or local ticket provider for a full refund.'
Simon performed at the venue on Thursday night—the first of what was meant to be a three-show run in Philadelphia as part of his A Quiet Celebration Tour.
His next scheduled performance is set for July 7 at the Terrace Theater in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, California.
Simon announced the tour in February, marking his return to the stage after retiring from touring in 2018 due to hearing loss.
The tour has been hitting smaller, intimate venues including Austin's Bass Concert Hall, Denver's Paramount Theatre and New York City's Beacon Theater in mini-residencies.
After his stop in Long Beach, Simon is scheduled to continue the tour with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Seattle, before wrapping in early August.

I went from being asked if I have grandkids to people refusing to believe I have a 17-year-old, here's my cheap tips

A BEAUTY buff has spilled the beans on how she reverse aged in just six weeks thanks to easy tips - and there's not an injectable in sight. Sarah Snodgrass Selvidge went viral earlier this year after people allegedly assumed she was a gran - despite being 40 and not having any grandchildren. 2 At the time, the 40-year-old - who many wrongly assumed was 55 and older - was covering her greys with a dark hair dye, cakey foundation and a thick lipliner. Baffled by the reaction, Sarah said in the now-viral video: ''I know I'm 40 but c'mon now.'' The clip took the internet by storm, winning the mum more than 8.3million views, with kind-hearted viewers flooding to comments to offer her a helping hand. One of the most common suggestions amongst the over 71k comments was re-learning how to do her make-up to slash decades off her face. A beauty buff advised: ''It's your makeup, the older we get the less we can wear. We have to change the technique too. ''What used to work, doesn't work the same now.'' And it seems that since taking the internet by storm and being dubbed ''granny'', Sarah has taken the advice in - now looking better than ever. Proudly showing off her new glow, the mum left everyone gobsmacked with the makeover - and it was all achieved by changing up her beauty routine. ''From that to today. I was told today I didn't look old enough to have a 17-year-old child. ''How does one go from being asked if they have grandkids to being told they don't look old enough to have a child that they have, in a matter of six weeks? I'm 52 but look DECADES younger - I avoid too much makeup, 'trashy' ripped jeans ''With better make-up and better hair, of course.'' During the epic glow-up process, the mum, from the US, ditched the dark bob and has since embraced a lighter hairdo with soft waves. Sarah has also said goodbye to extra heavy foundation that hid the glow underneath. She told social media users: ''A much lighter base, let my skin shine through, with a glowy look.'' Whereas in the past the mum would draw her eyebrows on with a dark pencil, Sarah is now getting the brows done professionally and seems to be using a lighter tint that's not so harsh. The 40-year-old stunner has also said goodbye to extremely heavy eyeshadow - and now swears by a softer look, which has shaved years off her appearance. In the clip, she could be seen looking as fresh as ever with a peachy eyeshadow that has light shimmer and enhanced the beauty of her eyes. ''Higher blush placement and higher bronzer placement'' have also worked a treat in reverse ageing, no longer dragging her face down. For her pout, the mum now uses a light-coloured gloss and has also ditched the harsh lip liner from the routine. 1. Never go to bed in make up 2. Moisturise daily 3. The singer, 29, has been giving fans a glimpse into her lavish girls' trip to the Balearic island in recent days. And over the weekend, Dua showed off her chiselled abs as she shared a collection of racy bikini snaps from a yacht day. Dua posed on the decking of the yacht while wearing the minuscule leopard print sequin two-piece with her wet hair slicked back. Dua also shared a selfie where she showed off her diamond cross necklace and chain, as well as a huge gold cuff bracelet. She was also seen posing with a pal who looked sensational in a royal blue metallic bandeau-style bikini. It comes after Dua set pulses racing on Sunday, as she shared a number of jaw-dropping snaps posing up a storm in several tiny bikinis during yet another sunny getaway. The singer left her followers stunned as she flaunted her incredibly toned figure and chiselled abs in a black string two-piece with a knitted cherry detail. While other striking shots saw her slipping into , which she teamed with denim shorts. Dua proudly displayed every inch of her enviable physique, as she enjoyed sunbathing with her pals and tucking into some fresh fruit. The hitmaker also donned a sheer sparkly cover-up over the top of her swimwear in another impromptu photoshoot, and snapped a mirror selfie holding up her T-shirt to flash a racy glimpse of her striped bikini bottoms. Captioning the striking photos, she wrote: 'jusss 'avin a good time' as she soaked up every second of her latest holiday. Her Instagram snaps came just hours after Dua was spotted enjoying a shopping trip in Paris, putting on a leggy display in a daringly short mesh dress. While she continued to rock her giant diamond ring, after finally confirming her engagement to actor Callum Turner last month. In an interview with Vogue, the chart-topper said: 'Yeah, we're engaged. It's very exciting. 'This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever - it's a really special feeling.' Though she admitted she never saw herself as the marrying type, explaining: 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be.' While Dua also opened up on her family plans, revealing she's concerned about how having children will fit in with her career as a pop star. She said: 'I'd love to have kids one day. But it's like the constant question of when would there ever be a good time – how it would fit in with my job and how it would work if I went on tour, and how much time out I'd have to take. 'I think it's just one of those things that's going to happen when it happens. I love kids, but I think there's so much more to raising a child than just loving children.' Earlier this week, Dua shared even more bikini-clad snaps as she packed on the PDA with fiancé Callum, 35, in Italy. The pop star is well-know for her jet set lifestyle and frequent glamorous vacations, with fans often taking to social media to crack jokes about her seemingly non-stop travelling. Whitney Port responds to claim she 'glorifies an unhealthy body image'

Whitney Port has responded to claims that she 'glorifies an unhealthy body image' for the young women who follow her. On Sunday, the 40-year-old star took to Instagram for an 'ask me anything' session. One person asked: 'Do you think your body glorifies an unhealthy body image for girls?' The mother-of-one said: 'I totally understand this question, and I appreciate you asking it with care. 'I never want my appearance to make anyone feel like they need to look a certain way - especially young kids.' 'I know I'm thin - it's how my body has mostly always been - but that doesn't mean I don't have my own complex relationship with food and body image. 'I continue to work with a nutritionist to help support a healthy relationship with eating and my body, and that journey is ongoing.' Whitney said she shares her life 'as honestly as I can, but I also recognize how powerful images can be'. She emphasized that 'health and beauty come in so many different forms, and I try to be mindful of that in what I put out into the world'. The star concluded: 'I'm always open to learning and doing better, especially as a mom to a son who's growing up in this same world.' Back in 2023, she previously admitted to not eating enough. She said: 'I do think I'm clearly not eating enough and that how I look right now does not look healthy. It's not how I want to look.' The ex-reality TV star then asked her fans not to 'worry' and explained she was planning to 'eat thoughtfully' and 'put the right things in (her) body,' as well as 'work out in a way that will build muscle'. In Sunday's AMA, Whitney was also asked about aging, with one person positing: 'How do you embrace getting older?' She once again gave an honest answer, writing: 'Physically, it's been a challenge to look at myself and not judge or expect things to look the way they used to. 'I started noticing the biggest changes around 38, especially in my skin - some sagging and crepiness - and that's taken some getting used to. 'Living in LA, where the obsession with staying young is so intense, it's easy to get caught up in it. I'm trying really hard not to let that happen. I want to care without being consumed. 'Emotionally, getting older has felt really good. There's more awareness, more perspective, and a deeper sense of who I am. 'I care less about things that used to take up way too much space in my head - and that part has been such a gift.'
