Lewis Capaldi says unfinished Glastonbury set in 2023 was ‘blessing in disguise'

The 28-year-old said in an interview with YouTuber Theo Von that he promised himself the set would be 'the last time I'm going to play a gig for a long time' and that he would seek help afterwards.
The Scottish singer said: 'When I got off stage, everyone else around me was a bit like, 'Oh, this is the worst thing ever', and I had this weird sort of (like) a weight had been lifted, like, 'Oh, now this thing's happened and I have to get help'.
'I had been putting it off because, funnily enough, a few weeks prior to that show, last minute we were playing in Chicago, and I had a very similar episode (which) was probably even worse… I couldn't come back on stage and finish the song.
'I was, like, backstage, convulsing and having this crazy panic attack, mental episode, I was really, really bad, way worse than what happened to Glastonbury, because Glastonbury is such a big stage and a big moment.'
Capaldi announced a break from touring shortly after the Glastonbury performance, but made a surprise return to the festival last month with a 35-minute set on the Pyramid Stage.
He continued: 'In a weird way, it's probably the best thing that happened to me at that moment at Glastonbury in 2023, because I wouldn't have stopped otherwise.
'I was really bad for not saying no to things, feeling like this is going to pass me by if I don't say yes to all this amazing stuff coming at me, and I have to catch it all and sort of get it all done.
'So I said yes to way too much, and I took way too much on, and everyone around me was asking me, 'Are you sure this is OK?'. I was like, 'Yeah, I'm fine', but yes, Glastonbury 2023 was maybe the most important day of my life, to be honest, because I wouldn't have stopped.
'It's like someone upstairs was like, 'This has to happen now', otherwise, I don't want to think about where I would be now, if I hadn't, because we were meant to go to Australia and stuff like that, it could have been really horrible.
'I dread to think what would've happened to me otherwise, so it was a bit of a blessing in disguise.'
During last month's Glastonbury show, Capaldi performed his new track Survive, which has since gone to number one on the UK singles chart.
He ended the performance with Someone You Loved, the track that Glastonbury crowds helped him to sing when he struggled in 2023.
The singer has also announced a comeback UK and Ireland tour at venues including The O2 in London, Cardiff's Utilita Arena and Dublin's 3Arena, as well as in Glasgow and Aberdeen, in September.
Tourette syndrome causes sudden, repetitive sounds or movements and, while there is no cure, treatment can help manage the tics, according to the NHS website.
Capaldi has had six UK number one singles, including Before You Go, Pointless and Wish You The Best, and both of his studio albums have reached number one in the UK albums chart.

'Hilarious' sequel to iconic Robin Williams comedy is streaming for free

Robin Williams' iconic nineties comedy gets a new lease of life in this 2017 sequel, available to stream now Fans of Robin Williams are in for a delight as a sequel to his legendary 1995 comedy, Jumanji, is now available for free streaming. Channel 4's on-demand service has recently added Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle to its catalogue, ready for UK viewers to enjoy. ‌ The 2017 film is a direct sequel to the nineties comedy, which featured the late actor alongside Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde and Bebe Neuwirth. The original film tells the story of two siblings who discover a mystical jungle-themed board game, with an unfortunate man trapped within. ‌ To liberate the man permanently, the children must successfully finish the game, which involves facing various jungle creatures. ‌ Robin, who sadly passed away in 2014, portrayed the unfortunate man, named Alan Parrish. In its 2017 reboot, the plot revolves around a group of high school students who stumble upon a magical video game, and are pulled into its fictional jungle environment. Each character plays the game as an adult avatar they selected, and can only escape by surviving the jungle's dangers and completing the adventure. This time, comedic actors Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson take the lead roles, alongside Scottish actress Karen Gillian, reports the Express. ‌ The comedy film received a notable 77% Rotten Tomatoes critical rating upon its release, with audiences giving it an impressive 87% score. Critics praised the film, saying: "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle uses a charming cast and a humorous twist to offer an undemanding yet solidly entertaining update on its source material." Audiences also raved about the film, with one reviewer calling it an "underappreciated masterpiece." Another fan exclaimed: "Literally one of the best comedies of all time! HILARIOUS." A third viewer wrote: "Hilarious, action-packed return to Jumanji! Filled with entertaining adventure! ‌ "Actors did great and always make me laugh! Hats off to Jack Black! Watched the movie several times! "Never get tired of watching it! Perfect watch for movie night if you're craving something funny and adventurous." A long-time fan of the original Jumanji film shared their pleasant surprise at how well the new instalment turned out, saying: "As a long time fan of the original Jumanji film, it was a pleasant surprise to find out how good this one ended up being. "Honouring the original, but putting a modern spin on it, and going inside Jumanji instead of taking it to the real world, really gave the story a new perspective."

New tartan unveiled for Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026

The official tartan, designed by award-winning Scottish fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie, was launched by the Glasgow 2026 Organising Company and has been registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans. Siobhan has made a name for herself reinventing classic tartans into contemporary fashion, with her designs having previously been worn by huge stars such as Justin Bieber and Alan Cumming. She said: "I feel honoured to be designing a tartan for such a momentous occasion in my home country. "When I graduated as a fashion design student in 2014, I took on a role as a tailoring technician for the technical officials of The Games. "At that point, designing the official tartan for the Games seemed like a pipedream, so this is truly a full circle moment. "I love weaving stories into tartan design, and while many people might be expecting a blue or green base, I looked at Glasgow's rich history and felt inspired by the shipbuilding stories. "This led to a steel grey base with the Glasgow 2026 colours woven through in my signature style. "It's incredibly important to me that every thread of this project is made in Scotland, and I'll be working with local textiles and manufacturers to bring this design to life. "I can't wait to see it across next year's Games.' A thread count of 74 represents the nations and territories taking part in the Games, while the dark blue section has been increased to 26 in homage to the Games which will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2. Official Glasgow 2026 tartan merchandise will also be made available for fans. "Siobhan is an expert in her field and has collaborated closely with us throughout the production process. "This special tartan draws inspiration from Glasgow's Clyde-built history, and she has carefully selected the threads of wool to celebrate the Games with this one-off tartan. "As Glasgow 2026 fast approaches with our one-year-to-go milestone next week, this tartan is a sign of what's to come next summer and will be part of the fabric of Glasgow 2026 across the city."

Lefty MPs accept Glastonbury tickets in freebie U-turn

Well, well, well. It transpires that a number of left-wing MPs enjoyed some time away from their constituencies at this year's Glastonbury festival, soaking up the sun, music and, of course, the pleasure of being there for free. Former Labour MP Zarah Sultana – who may or may not have patched things up with Jeremy Corbyn following a rather botched party launch announcement – was gifted two tickets by Glastonbury Festival Events Ltd worth £630 after attending as a guest speaker. Green MP Ellie Chowns also registered a single ticket for speaking at the festival, costing £390, while Labour's Clive Lewis accepted a ticket, after being invited to speak, at the same price. While the matter of speaking at public events is hardly something to complain about, Mr S is a little more interested in the hypocrisy displayed by the holier-than-thou lefties. They have been vocal about politicians accepting freebies in the past, with Sultana taking a pop at her former colleague, Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves, for being out of touch by accepting donated gifts. Speaking in March, the MP for Coventry South made a pointed dig as she fumed: 'I ask the Chancellor – who earns over £150,000 annually, has accepted £7,500 worth of free clothing and recently took freebie tickets to see Sabrina Carpenter – does she think austerity 2.0 is the change people really voted for?' She makes a good point – so why then did Sultana, who receives at least £93,904 a year, accept her own pair of complimentary passes? Lewis is a Glasto regular – enjoying the music festival so much in 2016 that he stayed long enough to miss his debut appearance in the Commons as Corbyn's shadow defence secretary. And Chowns may wish to eat her words on gifting, after having pledged to her local constituency paper in October that she will both give away half her annual salary to various charities and, er, refuse freebies. 'My policy,' the Green MP declared, 'is to politely decline gifts.' How's that working out, eh? Sultana didn't take too kindly to having her double standards pointed out by Steerpike, however. After Mr S got in touch, the Independent MP took to social media to rage: 'By all means, run your story. It'll end up in the same gutter as the rest.' See you in the gutter comrade!
