EPFO hasn't issued any new pension form or deadline, clarifies govt

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed a viral message doing the rounds on social media claiming that the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it mandatory for pensioners to fill out a new form, failing which their pension would be stopped. PIB Fact Check has labelled this message as completely fake.
What was the fake claim?
A misleading message is being circulated on WhatsApp and other social platforms stating that EPFO has introduced a new pension form for all pensioners. It falsely warns that if the form is not submitted before June 30, monthly pensions will be suspended.
PIB clarification: No new form, no deadline
PIB's Fact Check unit has confirmed via its official handle that:
· No such form has been issued by EPFO.
· No deadline like June 30 exists for submitting any such form.
· The pension will not be stopped for failing to fill a non-existent form.
'This claim is fake. EPFO has not issued any such directive,' PIB Fact Check stated on X.
What pensioners should keep in mind?
For EPFO pensioners, it is important to stay alert and not fall for fake messages that create panic. Here are a few things to note:
· Do not trust unofficial WhatsApp forwards or social media posts.
· Always cross-check any such announcements on the official EPFO website or PIB Fact Check's verified social media handles.
· In case of doubt, reach out to the EPFO helpline or visit the nearest EPFO office for clarity.
With misinformation spreading fast, government fact-checking units like PIB's Fact Check play a key role in protecting citizens from scams and fake news. Pensioners and EPF members should rely only on authentic government communication channels for updates.

From curry clashes to pet poop DNA tests, Bengaluru residents share bizarre RWA spats on Reddit

From heated debates over the smell of chicken curry to demands for DNA tests to trace pet droppings in common areas, Bengaluru residents are sharing their most bizarre WhatsApp group spats with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) on Reddit. From heated debates over the smell of chicken curry to demands for DNA tests to trace pet droppings in common areas, Bengaluru residents are sharing their most bizarre WhatsApp group spats with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) on Reddit. (Representational Image)(Unsplash) In many societies, tensions have spilled over onto WhatsApp groups with residents locking horns over everything from generator delays during power cuts, pet poop, to parking wars and complaints about noisy renovations. "Someone actually suggested a forensic test to trace a dog's poop because the pet owner refused to admit guilt," wrote a resident from a gated community in Whitefield. "It became a full-blown investigation!" Another recalled how a neighbour raised a stink over the smell of chicken curry wafting from a flat claiming it was 'offensive' to vegetarians. While some of these arguments are resolved quickly, others simmer for weeks, turning neighbourly chats into courtroom-style dramas. In a city where apartment living is the norm, these odd disputes are becoming all too common and the WhatsApp group has become the unexpected battleground. In many societies, tensions have spilled over onto WhatsApp groups with residents locking horns over everything from generator delays during power cuts, to parking wars and complaints about noisy renovations. Chicken curry photos spark debate in a housing society Whatsapp group One user recalled a fiery row triggered by a home cook who shared her daily menu complete with a photo of chicken curry. This upset some 'pure vegetarian' residents, one of whom claimed that just seeing the image had disturbed them. 'Sides were taken,' the Redditor wrote. 'It was quite the spectacle from the sidelines.' Also Read: Bengaluru tenants turn to property investment to escape rental exploitation by landlords DNA analysis for pet droppings! Another user shared a common practice in their apartment group: if a pet defecated in a common area, photos of the 'evidence' would be circulated on WhatsApp, along with demands to identify the pet and its owner. 'One pet owner even insisted it was not pet droppings and demanded DNA analysis since the area was under CCTV,' another Redditor said. In another instance, when a parent raised concerns about a child being attacked by a stray, one activist allegedly asked for 'video proof' of the incident. 'I felt like becoming an activist just to see how far this madness can go,' the user wrote. Also Read: Planning to rent in Bengaluru? Netizens warn of hidden costs and water issues; even suggest checking with society guards Ongoing parking wars Redditors said parking space disputes also made a frequent appearance in trifles with the RWAs. One Redditor described how two-wheelers parked too close to their car caused repeated damage. Despite several requests and emails to the apartment committee, the problem persisted, until the resident began documenting incidents with the intent to serve a legal notice. 'No one is parking there now, but let's see how long that lasts,' the Redditor wrote. A RWA president opens up about the challenges of managing a housing society A Bengaluru resident who recently took over as president of a newly formed apartment association shared his experience, offering a glimpse into the day-to-day challenges of running a housing society. 'Our WhatsApp group became so toxic that we had to shut it down. Now it's strictly for announcements,' he said. "People will call during work hours asking for plumbers instead of logging a ticket. People are petty and inconsiderate the majority of the time. Some people used to use the RWA Whatsapp chat group as their personal chats and a couple used to have their flat conversations on that until some other owner called it out," the user wrote. Other complaints ranged from people throwing hair and biscuit wrappers onto other balconies, to apartment-wide meltdowns when the generator did not kick in within seconds of a power cut, he said.

'Please forgive us, Gowdre': Redditors discuss current state of Bengaluru on Kempegowda Jayanti

As Bengaluru marked the birth anniversary of its visionary founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, netizens took to Reddit to reflect on the city's transformation, from a laid-back garden town to a bustling tech metropolis. The occasion, Kempegowda Jayanti, became more than a commemoration; it sparked a candid conversation about what the city has gained, lost, and continues to grapple with. Nadaprabhu Kempegowda's Jayanti is celebrated on June 27(ANI/ PIB) Also Read - 'Non-veg eaters need not apply': Chennai man's rental post triggers debate on landlords' biases Often celebrated as the man who laid the foundation of modern Bengaluru, Kempegowda was praised in several posts for his foresight in urban planning. One user explained to newcomers, 'Kempegowda founded Bengaluru and envisioned a city with interconnected lakes, which prevented flooding and helped keep the city cool during summers.' But alongside admiration, there was a deep sense of nostalgia and regret. One of the most emotional posts read: 'Happy birthday Gowdre, please forgive us for the current state of Bengaluru.' The line struck a chord with many, opening the floodgates to a heartfelt discussion on how the city's rapid expansion has left long-time residents feeling alienated. Also Read - Bengaluru entrepreneur says he's often mistaken for a north Indian due to skin colour, Hindi: 'When I speak in Kannada…' A local user shared: 'As someone born and brought up in Bengaluru, I hate what the city has become. Others may like it, but for us locals, it's changed beyond recognition. There was a time when traffic was minimal, the weather was lovely — and we didn't even talk about it much, it was just normal. The city had people from different linguistic backgrounds even before the IT boom, but it wasn't this frustrating.' He went on to add a sobering concern about the city's future: 'If Bengaluru keeps expanding to the outskirts places like Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Dabaspet, and Magadi, what will be left of its core identity? I fear the population density will choke every part of the city.' Others chimed in with similar sentiments, recalling a Bengaluru of tree-lined roads, slower days, and a more cohesive cultural fabric, something they feel is being diluted in today's startup-driven, traffic-jammed urban sprawl. Interestingly, the post also attracted newcomers to the city who admitted they weren't familiar with Kempegowda and his legacy. 'New to Bangalore and trying to dive into Kannada history — who is this?' one asked. The thread soon turned into a mini history lesson, with users detailing how Kempegowda established the city's early layout, built lakes, and erected towers to demarcate the city's boundaries — markers that still exist today.
