Five escape death as car catches fire in Balik Pulau
Seri Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohamad Nizar Ibrahim said the group, consisting of one man and four women in their 50s, managed to escape unhurt in the 1.10 pm incident.

'Moments after they exited, flames erupted from under the hood, and the vehicle was quickly engulfed in fire, destroying more than 90 per cent of it,' he said when contacted today.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and fully extinguished it by 1.36 pm.
He added that an overhaul was carried out to eliminate any remaining hazards, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

KUALA KANGSAR: Five people were injured in a crash involving seven vehicles at Km234 of the North–South Expressway (northbound) today. The accident, which occurred at noon, involved a lorry transporting meat, a Proton Waja, a Toyota Vios, a Perodua Bezza, a Proton Saga, a Toyota Camry and a Mazda3. According to the Kuala Kangsar traffic police, initial investigations indicated that the lorry is believed to have lost control and crashed into the rear of multiple vehicles ahead of it. "The victims were taken to the hospital for further treatment," they said when contacted today. They added that the victims include the 36-year-old lorry driver, the 66-year-old driver of the Proton Waja, the 34-year-old Toyota Vios driver, the 31-year-old Perodua Bezza driver and a 28-year-old passenger in the Proton Saga. "At the time of the accident, the road was dry and the weather was clear." According to PLUS on its X account, up to 2.48pm, traffic was congested for 14km heading north and 10km heading south. Road users were urged to use alternative routes.

Driver escapes with minor injuries as MPV plunges into river
ALOR SETAR: A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) plunged into a river near Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) last night. The 41-year-old driver, however, escaped with only minor injuries. The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre said it received a distress call about the incident at 8.01pm. A team from the Alor Setar Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer II Roslan Saad and comprising six personnel, was dispatched to the scene. "The Kedah operations command centre received an emergency call via the MERS 999 line, reporting that a Toyota Alphard had skidded and plunged into the river. "The victim was rescued and brought to a safe location for treatment," the department said in a statement. The victim was later taken to HSB. The operation concluded at 8.52pm. It is understood that the stretch of road near the river has seen multiple accidents, with vehicles reportedly plunging into the water in past incidents.

Three seriously hurt as car plunges into river in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Four people were injured, three of them with serious injuries, after the Perodua Alza they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a river along Jalan York here today. They are believed to be members of the same family. Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director John Sagun Francis said they received an emergency call about the incident at 3.24pm. A team from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene. "Upon arriving at 3.41pm, our team found all the victims trapped inside the vehicle, which had plunged into the river. "Rescue operations were carried out immediately using specialised equipment. "The team successfully extricated all the victims by around 4pm," he said in a statement today. John said all the victims received initial treatment from medical personnel before being taken to the nearest hospital for further care. "The operation concluded at 4.03pm after ensuring the area was safe," he added.
