Gardener shares 'genius' hack using old tights to keep garden tidy and pest-free
We've been fortunate enough to enjoy some great weather this summer already, and it's hoped that more brilliant days lie ahead. Given this, it's crucial to ensure your garden remains in tip-top condition, from nurturing the plants to keeping your lawn in good condition.
Beyond caring for the foliage, it's equally essential to keep your garden neat and organised, just as you would your house.
And there's a quirky yet brilliant trick that can assist with this task. Michael the Mediterranean Gardener reveals you can utilise an old pair of tights to maintain your garden's tidiness and organisation - whilst also helping to deter unwanted pests.
Speaking on Instagram, he encouraged gardeners to rummage through their drawers and wardrobes for forgotten, unused pairs of tights that might be gathering dust.
He claims they're a surprising yet superb tool for keeping gardens and sheds organised - and the method couldn't be more straightforward to carry out, reports the Express.
Why you should put tights in the garden
According to Michael, old tights can be used for keeping your garden pots all in one place, stopping them from blowing around the garden and being infested with spiders.
Displaying a pair to the camera, he explained: "Grab your old tights. If they're really old and have a hole in the foot, you can tie a knot in the end."
Next, take a knife and slice through the gusset so you've got two individual legs.
You can then gather all your gardening pots that would otherwise simply be scattered about, either outdoors or in the shed, and begin to 'shove them down' into the foot.
The improvised bag should expand perfectly, enabling you to stack all of your garden pots within. You can then hang this up inside your shed or even just beside your back door, and whenever you need to get a pot out, cut and pull one out from the bottom.
Social media users on Instagram and TikTok were left blown away by this trick, with many suggesting their own ways that they use old tights in the garden.
One person said: "I cut up old tights into strips and use as ties to hold plants to canes too! Works like a charm and they're flexible so minimal damage to stems etc."
Another said: "Great idea and the spiders won't get in."
And a third added: "That's really genius, and the slugs are kept off them too."

Tesco's 'stunning' £34 outfit that 'could pass for River Island' wows shoppers
The supermarket's F&F shoppers have been praising the 'stunning' outfit that is giving 'holiday' vibes Shoppers have been raving about an outfit that looks like it could come from a high-street fashion brand —but it's actually from Tesco. In the same store where people box off their weekly shop, some are desperate to pick up an outfit that could pass for something sold by River Island. A TikTok account (@fandflongeaton) run by staff at a Tesco store shared the "stunning" co-ord that costs £34 for the complete outfit. They urged people to "run to Tesco" before showing off the crinkle-effect co-ord that comes in a trendy shade of green. Highlighting its flowy fit, shoppers were instant fans of the simple outfit that has a pop of gold on the top. The outfit isn't available online at the time of writing, but prices were shown in the video, with the top costing £16 and the trousers priced at £18. However, a few were put off by the length of the pants. One claimed: "I wish I was taller I'm 5ft! I don't think the trousers would fit me!" Another put: "I'm 5'8 and I'm wayyy too tall for them!" People were quick to make suggestions such as altering the trousers to suit your height with iron-on webbing to easily customise the final leg length. Another TikTok user offered their tips that focused on making your footwear help. They advised: "I'm 5ft 2 and they are long but if you buy a nice trainer with a good back they look nice. Or I've been wearing them with sandals, they don't drag too much." Earlier this year, Tesco announced a major change to its F&F clothing range that proved a game-changer for shoppers. In April, it was confirmed that the supermarket would be launching an online store exclusively for F&F clothing. Shoppers can currently browse a selection of the supermarket clothing range online - including men's, women's and children's. The range includes fashionable and quality pieces through the F&F Edit, Sports and F&F Active Athleisure clothing. It will also feature exclusive collaborations and high-demand seasonal items, such as school uniforms, which currently have 25% off until July 27, 2025. Customers will be able to earn Clubcard points on all their purchases, making shopping at Tesco even more rewarding.
