Wedding show celebrates 900 years of church
A church has been "buzzing with laughter and memories" with the arrival of a wedding show to commemorate its 900th year, its organisers have said. St Andrew's Church in Haughton-le-Skerne, Darlington, had its first recorded marriage in 1569 and is one of the oldest churches in Darlington. Organiser Carol Atkinson said she got the idea for the show, which runs until Sunday lunchtime, "many years ago" after both her grandmother and mother got married at the church. Sarah Beavis, who was among those to share her wedding attire, said she also had "strong ties" to the church, as she got married there in 2010 and her parents did in 1979. The exhibition includes more than 30 wedding garments, photos and snippets of memories of marriages at St Andrew's. Mrs Atkinson said the show had been a "wonderful success" at "our beautiful church". She said St Andrew's had been "buzzing with laughter and memories, with many visitors bumping into friends they haven't seen for decades". Mrs Beavis, from Darlington, said the church was "the centre" of Haughton-le-Skerne. "I chose the church because my parents got married there on 11 August 1979." The 40-year-old said she "couldn't have asked for better" of her special day on 29 May 2010. "My husband, Michael, is in the navy and it was a semi-military wedding with a mix of lads from the SAS and royal marines," she continued. "It's meant be good luck to have a sailor at your sure what it means to marry one though." She added everyone was "quite shocked" by her dress, because she had "always been a bit of a tomboy but I chose a 'Disney princess' was the polar opposite to my personality". Meanwhile, a group of knitters picked up their needles once again to add to the celebrations. The Haughton Ladies Who Knit group stitched a range of wedding-themed characters for the exhibition and decorated parking bollards in the village green. Cave dubbed 'world's most breathtaking secret' could kill you within minutes
The Cave of the Crystals is one of the most stunning geological wonders at the centre of the Earth – but it's not a place you would want to stay for long because death would find you within minutes A remarkable geological marvel located at the heart of our planet has been dubbed the "best kept and most breathtaking secret on the planet" - but visiting it would be a deadly risk. The hostile underground cavern, known as the Cave of the Crystals, is situated in Chihuahua, Mexico. Broadcaster Michael Usher, who negotiated for two years to gain access, described it as "mother nature's Sistine Chapel" that is "almost something from out of space". The cave, filled with spectacular crystals weighing up to 55 tonnes and reaching 11 metres in height, lies 300 metres beneath a lead mine in the town of Naica. The crystal-filled chamber was only discovered in 2000 when miners stumbled upon it during drilling operations. The cave, shaped like a horseshoe, extends for 110 metres. Despite its mesmerising interior, lingering there too long could prove fatal. Recently, 60 Minutes Australia reissued a video showing their reporter being granted rare access, where he stated: "The furnace-like heat and soaring humidity can kill you in minutes. But when you see what I saw - you will see why it was worth every suffocating gasp for breath." Humans are not designed to survive in 58Cheat coupled with stifling humidity. Before Michael descended into the cave, an accompanying doctor warned: "This is going to be the harshest environment that you and I are ever going to come across in our life. So I am excited but a little anxious." The crystals were described as "the most spectacular anywhere in the word" with Michael saying he was "literally blown away" by the beauty of it. Also present was British geologist Dougal Jerram who marvelled at what he was seeing, saying it was the stuff of make believe while comparing it to something you would see in a Walt Disney production. However, despite the scenery, the trio were soon sweating profusely, comparing the feeling to like running a marathon. The humidity is at a perilous 90% and people aren't allowed to stay more than 10 minutes, even with specially-designed cooling suits. The doctor said they were essentially being cooked from the inside and the geologist added: "It is a remarkable place but it is so overpowering in terms of its attack on you in the environment. You are in this kind of constant battle of being overpowered physically, mentally and psychologically in every way." Struggling for breath, they soon left the cave, and were left to reflect on what they witnessed. The crystal cave they explored was first formed some 26 million years ago when magma rose from the reservoir, which, according to Live Science, pushed mineral-rich waters up through cracks in the rock. This opened up caverns in the limestone before the deposits were crystalised over thousands of years. Following his visit to the "enormous" natural wonder, roughly the size of a football pitch, geologist Dougal was left in awe, stating: "Oh, this is truly one of the most... if we were to list seven geological wonders of the world, this is definitely one of them." Due to its perilous nature, scientists are required to obtain a special permit to explore the Cave of the Crystals, and it remains strictly off-limits to tourists.

Ireland teenager with 'a lot of potential' joins Premier League side
Irish goalkeeper Michael Dike has joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Treaty United for an undisclosed fee. It seems as though Dike will settle into the under-21 setup at the Seagulls, with Albion known for their production line of young talented players. Brighton U21 manager Shannon Ruth, speaking to local newspaper The Argus, said: "Michael joins us as an Irish youth international and gained some good experience last year with Treaty. "We believe he is a goalkeeper with a really positive profile and a lot of potential. We look forward to working with him and helping him continue his development." Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett told the Limerick Post: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Michael and we wish him all the best. Michael has been great for us and has all the attributes to be a top keeper, great personality, great athleticism and he works really hard at his game. "We are all looking forward to seeing Michael flourish and have a great career in the game." Speaking to RTÉ, Dike revealed that he had been offered trails at the Premier League side, saying "I have been there a few times on trials and stuff like that and I enjoyed it and got offered a contract so I'm really happy. It's everything I have ever dream of, really exciting, a new chapter." He was thankful for his time at Treaty, saying "The club has given me a good pathway I started with the academy and then had a little breakout year last year and made a couple of games. "The shootout was by far my favourite moment as a Treaty player, the adrenaline saving the first one, going for the second one and saving that and then winning the shootout."
