WFAN's Gregg Giannotti rips ESPN insider telling complaining Yankees fans to ‘shut the f–k up'
During Thursday's episode of 'Boomer & Gio' on WFAN, Giannotti took offense to Jeff Passan's comments about Yankee fans in which the ESPN insider said he is tired of complaints from The Bronx faithful.
'This is a typical guy from Kansas City,' Giannotti responded during the episode. 'I understand he covers baseball. He might have lived in the Northeast at some point.

'There is a standard, and the Yankee fan is allowed to complain if they haven't won a World Series since 2009, since they are the Yankees, and they hadn't been to one, obviously, until last year, and then it was a terrible ending for them.
'They're allowed to be pissed off. A lot of them now are right in the middle of their lives that grew up with the dynasty in the late '90s, into the early 2000s. So that's what they grew up like.'

Co-host Boomer Esiason echoed Giannotti's remarks, saying that being from Kansas City, Passan is not used to rooting for a team that is consistently successful.
Despite currently living in Kansas City and being a fan of the Chiefs, Passan grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland.

Passan made the original comments on an episode of 'The Max Mannis Podcast,' where he said that Yankees fans should not solely have the 'championship or bust' mindset.

'It's also why when I hear Yankees fans complain, I'm like, 'Shut the f–k up,'' Passan said on the episode, which aired Tuesday. 'Listen, would you rather have a team that is competitive every year and might not win a championship, or a team that stinks? Would you rather be a Yankees fan or a Pirates fan?'
Despite having a hot start to the 2025 season, the Yankees are currently tied with the Blue Jays for first place in the AL East with the Rays sitting just 0.5 games back.

Mets' Francisco Lindor Sends Anthony Volpe Message After Harsh Yankees Move
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees earned a much needed win against their first-place division rival Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, closing the gap for the American League East lead to three games. The win eased some of the pressure on the Yankees as a team, but shortstop Anthony Volpe has more reason for concern than ever. He logged another error on defense and has the most of any shortstop in the American League. And he went hitless after being moved to the bottom of the lineup. "Volpe is 3-for-20 (.150) in his last six games and 12-for-87 (.138) in his last 24," Randy Miller noted for "His batting average is down to .212, a low-water mark since April 23." After a Gold Glove rookie season and then a step up at the plate last year, Volpe is having his worst overall season so far this year and patience among the fanbase seems to be running out. Manager Aaron Boone and executive Brian Cashman have both publicly defended Volpe amid the skid, but struggling in the New York spotlight can't be easy. (Photo by New) More Yanke Volpe's struggles are becoming so pronounced that rival shortstop Franciso Lindor of the New York Mets offered some commiseration. "It's got to be tough," Lindor said of Volpe's issues, per Dan Martin of the New York Post. "It's got to be very tough to grow in this market. He always has the spotlight." Lindor, who initially struggled with the Mets following a trade from the Cleveland Guardians, earned an All-Star bid this season and has slashed .245/.313/.431 with a .978 fielding percentage so far this year. While acknowledging that the pressure of playing in New York can't make it easy for Volpe, Lindor added that he's confident the Yankees' shortstop will figure it out. "He's a good player," Lindor said, according to Martin. "He's a great defensive shortstop and when you're not hitting well, you can rely on good defense. It's the same thing with me. That's what you focus on." Unfortunately, Volpe's defense hasn't been much better than his offense. But with the confidence of his manager and front office, he seems to have some time to figure it out, as Lindor once did. Dodgers Targeting Guardians' All-Star Closer to Bolster Bullpen: Report
Dodgers Targeting Guardians' All-Star Closer to Bolster Bullpen: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers are bona fide World Series favorites due to their top-tier offense and league-leading comeback wins. They do not know how to lose, but when they do, it is due to two things: starting pitching and the bullpen. With Tyler Glasnow already back on the mound and Blake Snell expected to return soon, All-Star caliber reinforcements are not returning to fortify their bullpen. After pouring over $107 million into the pen this offseason, Andrew Friedman, president of baseball operations, is again scouring the relief pitcher market in hopes of adding to an already stacked, yet pivotally flawed roster. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers have had trade talks with the Cleveland Guardians about closer Emmanuel Clase. Clase, a three-time All-Star, struggled to begin the season butbounced back recentlys. Since late June, he has converted 15 of his 17 save opportunities and lowered his ERA to 2.90 in the same span. Inserting him into the back of Los Angeles' bullpen would make it more dangerous come the postseaso ando allow current closer Tanner Scott to move into a less stressful eight-inning role. Clase is also under contract through 2026 with a $10 million club option in 2027 and 2028. The Dodgers would likely pick up both extra years of control, knowing the cheap price tag, and in return, have one of the league's most dominant closers under 31 throughout his time with the club. According to Nightengale, there is one hiccup to the Dodgers' interest in Clase as the Guardians are telling teams they plan to keep the closer. Whether that is a negotiation tactic remains to be seen, but either way, Los Angeles will have to offer a massive haul to acquire Clase's services.
