New UAE initiative to boost local products' competitiveness

Trade Arabia29-05-2025
The UAE's Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and Sinaha — an e-commerce platform dedicated to supporting Emirati-made goods — have signed a partnership aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of national products.
Through the partnership, Sinaha will design a national digital platform that showcases products bearing the 'Made in the Emirates' mark, a unified national identity that recognises goods manufactured in the UAE.
The agreement was signed by Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Accelerators Sector at MoIAT, and Mansour Mohammed bin Kardous Al Ameri, Deputy CEO of the Sinaha platform, with the ceremony taking place on the sidelines of the fourth edition of Make it in the Emirates Forum, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
As part of the agreement, the community-focused Walaa' (loyalty) Platform will be launched under the supervision of MoIAT. The platform will engage influencers, media professionals, and community organisations to support the culture of local consumption and promote national products. It will also celebrate the contributions of key supporters of the Make it in the Emirates initiative. Awareness campaigns will further enhance public and investor confidence in national products.
This partnership aims to align efforts between MoIAT and Sinaha to deliver innovative initiatives that support national priorities and enhance public-private sector integration. Key focus areas will include developing digital solutions for industrial employment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and advancing the Make it in the Emirates initiative.
Fadhel emphasised that MoIAT remains committed to supporting strategic initiatives that bring together public and private sectors in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology. These efforts strengthen the growth and competitiveness of the UAE's industrial sector, while raising awareness of the quality and value of Emirati products under the umbrella of Make it in the Emirates.
He added: 'At the ministry, we are committed to supporting efforts that elevate 'Made in the Emirates' products. This not only enhances investment opportunities but also fosters a stronger culture of local consumption by highlighting the quality of Emirati-made goods in collaboration with our partners at Sinaha. Marketing plays a vital role beyond production, and initiatives such as the Walaa' platform will be instrumental in showcasing the excellence of our national products in both local and international markets.'
Al Ameri, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sinaha platform, said: "We operate in line with the directives of our wise leadership to strengthen the capabilities of the national industrial sector. This strategic partnership with MoIAT marks a significant step toward establishing an effective, integrated model of collaboration between the public and private sectors to support Emirati products across all levels.'
He also added: "Industrial development cannot be achieved without recognising the vital role of marketing — it is as important as production itself. Strong demand drives higher production volumes, expands the consumer base, and contributes directly to employment and economic growth. Smart, consistent marketing of Emirati products is key to unlocking new markets. It fuels the manufacturing ecosystem, attracts investment, and accelerates the journey toward sustainable industrial development."
Al Ameri also highlighted how the partnership will enable Sinaha to expand its support for national products by increasing integrated digital and media efforts. It will also contribute to developing policies and investment opportunities that advance innovation and support long-term competitiveness.
This partnership between MoIAT and Sinaha represents a significant step in digital industrial empowerment by laying the foundation for a comprehensive, integrated system that enhances the added value of national products. It will also support long-term cooperation, industrial localization and provide quality employment opportunities in future industries.
The platform will also leverage advanced digital tools and artificial intelligence to analyze consumer behavior. These local market insights will support efforts to raise awareness of Emirati products and services across the industrial and technology sectors, serving as a unified gateway for the national industrial ecosystem — connecting manufacturers with consumers, investors with factories, and talent with employment opportunities, said the statement. - TradeArabia News Service

Emirates Adds 5th China Route Daily Dubai-Hangzhou Flights

Dubai-based carrier Emirates officially launched its new daily service to Hangzhou, China. This would be the 5th route to the Chinese mainland and the second new destination added to the airline's roster in under a month, following Shenzhen. The launch took place on 30th July with a debut flight from Dubai to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. Passengers aboard the new flight EK310 were welcomed by local dignitaries, airport officials, a ceremonial water cannon salute and received memorabilia from the airport. The inaugural flight carried passengers from across Emirates' global network, including key markets like the UAE, Nigeria, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil, as well as a VIP delegation led by Emirates' senior management and members of the international media. 'China has become one of the world's leading aviation markets, and Emirates is proud to have played a role in its development. Adding two new gateways within just one month is a major milestone that underscores our deepening commitment to the Chinese mainland,' said Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, regarding the launch. Kazim explained that the expansion demonstrated the conviction of the company's East and Southeast Asia growth strategy, which has gained momentum over the past year. With rising demand, Kazim is optimistic that its global network will continue connecting people, businesses, and economies across Asia and beyond. Emirates remains committed to delivering seamless, reliable connectivity between this dynamic region and the world. 'We extend our sincere appreciation to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, and all our local partners for their invaluable support in enabling the successful start of this route,' said Kazim. The Emirates Boeing 777-300ER (EK310) is scheduled to depart Dubai at 09:40 AM and arrive in Hangzhou at 22:00 PM. The return flight, EK311, departs Hangzhou at 00:10 AM, landing in Dubai at 04:55 AM. Emirates is said to offer optimal connectivity for customers from 40 destinations in Europe, 21 in Africa, 13 in the Middle East, as well as Brazil and Argentina, to Hangzhou via Dubai. The airline also offers convenient two-way connections from Hangzhou to key cities including Istanbul, Barcelona, Cairo, and Johannesburg via Dubai. The Boeing 777-300ER wide-body aircraft is said to offer up to 16 tonnes of bellyhold cargo capacity per flight, enabling the transport of time-sensitive shipments such as e-commerce goods, pharmaceuticals, smart devices, and other high-value products. With a well-defined digital infrastructure in place, Hangzhou serves as a key international gateway for Chinese brands. With Emirates SkyCargo's expansive network spanning six continents and high-speed connectivity through its Dubai hub, goods from Hangzhou and the broader Yangtze River Delta can reach emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America faster, reducing delivery timelines and enhancing supply chain performance. Emirates now operates 49 weekly flights to five major Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. Its signature complimentary chauffeur-drive service for First and Business Class passengers is also available to passengers flying to Hangzhou. With the addition of Hangzhou to its growing Chinese mainland network, Emirates is building a powerful air corridor for trade, tourism, and digital exchanges between China and the Middle East, as well as beyond. The new route will further open new opportunities for Chinese brands to reach a global audience while offering customers from across Emirates' global network better access to this powerful tech hub. Through interline and codeshare agreements with China Southern Airlines, Air China and Sichuan Airlines, Emirates provides enhanced connectivity to destinations beyond its network across China. Travellers from the UAE and other GCC countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days, making both business and leisure travel to the Chinese mainland even more convenient. Emirates Adds Daily Dubai-Mauritius Flight

Emirates will introduce a third daily flight to Mauritius. Starting December 1 2025, the move forms as part of the airline's efforts to support inbound tourism to the island nation. The additional service, to be operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft as EK709/710, will complement existing operations and provide more options for customers travelling to Mauritius from Emirates' network of over 140 destinations. The airline currently operates two daily services to Mauritius using its A380 aircraft, under flight numbers EK701/702 and EK703/704. The new Boeing 777 service, introduced under a codeshare agreement with Air Mauritius, will offer alternative timings to support passenger itineraries and enhance connectivity for travellers from the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Emirates also plans to promote the route in Far East markets, including Japan, China, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The new service is expected to contribute to demand from these regions. Flight EK709 will depart Dubai daily at 06:55hrs and arrive in Mauritius at 13:40hrs. The return flight, EK710, will depart Mauritius at 18:30hrs and arrive in Dubai at 01:10hrs the next day. All timings are local. Tickets for the new flight are now available for booking through the Emirates website, app, retail stores, contact centre, or authorised travel agents. Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, said: 'We would like to thank the Mauritian authorities for making an additional daily service possible. We have been proudly serving Mauritius since 2002 and our double daily A380 services have been a major success and contributor to the growth of the country's tourism industry. The additional daily service on our wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft will enable a more than 30 percent increase in capacity on the route, while also providing additional flight options for leisure and business travellers to seamlessly connect to flights.' He added: 'We recently reaffirmed our codeshare partnership with Air Mauritius and our shared commitment to putting the destination on the global stage by facilitating steady growth in tourist demand for visits to Mauritius. We are also pleased to support and complement the operations of the national carrier, whose services have contributed to our success on this route. The additional daily service will allow both airlines to meet demand from global travellers.' Emirates began scheduled services to Mauritius in 2002. Since then, it has carried more than 8.8 million passengers and more than 126,000 tonnes of cargo to and from the island. Emirates' operations have contributed $119 million in direct impact from flights, $264 million in tourism receipts, and $530 million to the Mauritian economy through tourism-related spending. The airline's operations have supported the creation of 3,600 jobs in Mauritius. Emirates also employs several Mauritian nationals in roles such as pilots, cabin crew, engineering, customer service, and corporate support. The partnership between Emirates and Air Mauritius dates back to 2003, while Emirates' collaboration with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority began in 2012. The two organisations have jointly promoted Mauritius in key source markets. The airline currently operates 14 flights per week between Dubai and Mauritius using its A380 aircraft, offering a weekly capacity of more than 15,000 seats. Emirates is the only airline offering A380 services to Mauritius and the only one providing First Class cabins on the route.
