PMC finally approves dog park in Kharadi
The decision was taken by the PMC's veterinary department last week. The civic body has been working to set up a dog park in Pune since 2023. The previous plans to establish such parks in Katraj and Baner were proposed but later dropped due to administrative approval challenges.
Dr Sarika Funde-Bhosale, chief veterinary officer, PMC, said a letter has been given to the road, water supply, electric and building construction departments to start work on the development of roads, water supply lines and electricity lines and build a compound wall.
'The park will be equipped with pet-friendly features such as fenced play areas, walking tracks, shaded zones, drinking water points, and waste disposal bins. Other facilities like a jogging track, swimming pool, parking facility, playing instruments, grooming parlour and veterinary services will be made available at the dog park. However, the facilities will be made available in a phased manner,' said Funde-Bhosale.
PMC in June 2023 decided to set up the city's first pet dog park on a 3.5-acre plot on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road. A budget provision of ₹1 crore has been made for its construction. The plot originally belonged to the PMC-run Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park (RGZP). The civic body had sought permission from CZA to use the land for a dog park. However, CZA on December 26, 2023, rejected the proposal, stating the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, prohibits zoos from housing domestic animals and pets within premises.
Similarly, the civic veterinary department in May 2024 identified a 36,000 square feet plot in Baner to set up a dog park. The proposal for the same was sent to the municipal commissioner of PMC. However, the plot was later allotted to another department of PMC.

It was also noted that revenue from forest and tiger reserve check posts is being deposited into Tiger Conservation Foundation accounts to support anti-poaching. Tiger Cell to be set up A tiger cell will be established at Aranya Bhavan to monitor tiger and leopard activity outside protected areas and track human-wildlife conflict in districts like Kamareddy, Nirmal, Jagtial, Eturnagaram, and Kinnerasani. A study was approved to assess heavy vehicle movement through Kawal Tiger Reserve, focusing on wildlife deaths, and environmental impact.

Pune: One dead, three injured as debris falls on labourers near Nanded City township
One worker died and three were injured on Monday after debris fell on them as they undertook Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) related drainage work in a trench near Nanded City township. After receiving information, teams of the Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) rushed to the spot around 6 pm. Firemen started the rescue operation immediately. 'The workers were buried under the mud in a trench about 20 feet deep a trench. We rescued three workers safely and they were taken to a hospital for treatment,' said fire officer Prashant Gaikar. 'Three people have been shifted to Nanded multi-specialty hospital. A fourth person unfortunately died, a doctor has confirmed,' said additional municipal commissioner Prithviraj B P. The rescue operation went on for over two hours. Prithviraj B P said the work was related to on ongoing project being implemented through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funds. 'We will investigate the incident,' he said. He added that the JICA project follows strict safety standards, so the PMC will find out the exact cause of the incident. The River Improvement project, also known as JICA project, involves the construction of 11 new sewage treatment plants and laying drainage new lines to ensure that no untreated sewage is released in Mula and Mutha river. The project's implementation had been delayed for a long time and failed to its completion deadline of March 2025. The delay had been due to technical issues but it got back on track. The project cost increased from Rs 990 crore to Rs 1,173 crore ,with an additional Rs 250 crore for its operation and maintenance for the next 15 years. 4 trapped at PMC project site: 1 dead, 2 rescued, 1 walks out
Pune: One worker was killed and three others suffered injuries after they got trapped under a 25-foot heap of mud while laying an underground drainage line of the Mula-Mutha river pollution abatement project at Khadakwasla, behind the Nanded City compound wall, around 6pm on Monday. The Nanded City police identified the deceased worker as Kaniram Prajapati (55), resident of a workers' camp in Wadgaon Budruk. The injured workers are MD Khurshid (24) of Nanded village, and Kurshid Ali (27) and Chetan Lal Prajapati (55) from Wadgaon Budruk.
