Boy survives 18-storey fall thanks to tree
Compiled by TAN SIN CHOW, DIVYA THERESA RAVI and R. ARAVINTHAN A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy miraculously survived after falling from the 18th floor of a building in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Sin Chew Daily reported that even the boy's father, known only as Zhu, could not believe it until he saw surveillance footage. The boy hit a window on a lower floor, which altered his trajectory and caused him to fall on a tree. He eventually landed face down in a bush. A site inspection revealed that some tree branches were broken and the child had multiple scratches, supporting the theory that the branches cushioned his fall and saved his life. Recalling the incident on July 15, Zhu said his son accidentally fell out of the window, which had no security bars. Zhu said that property management staff helped call emergency services and send his son to the hospital. He added that his son is now recovering from a fractured left arm, spinal strain and multiple internal injuries. 'Fortunately, his head was not injured,' Zhu said. Believing that the tree branches buffered the impact and saved his son, the family has since tied a red string to the tree as a sign of gratitude. > Nanyang Siang Pau reported that Hong Kong actress Louise Lee Si-kei was in Malaysia enjoying various local durian varieties, including the famous Black Thorn and Musang King. From the photos she shared on Instagram at a durian orchard, it's clear that she thoroughly enjoyed herself as she indulged in Malaysia's culinary delights. Besides durian, she also met up with Liu Wai Hung, fondly known as Ah Chan, whom she last met more than 30 years ago. In her post, she mentioned that not only did she get to enjoy durians personally selected by Ah Chan, she also visited his newly opened restaurant. Lee recalled that they had worked together on the TVB sitcom Three in a Family back in 1990. The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). As such, stories are grouped according to the respective language/medium. #SHOWBIZ: HK actor Louis Fan ate 7 durians during 3-day stay in Malaysia
HONG KONG: Actor Louis Fan recently popped over to Malaysia to cheer on his wife, Chinese artiste JJ Jia, at her concert in Genting Highlands on July 19. While in Malaysia, the 52-year-old took full advantage of durian season, indulging in plenty of the 'King of Fruits'. In a recent update on Xiaohongshu (Red Note), the martial arts star shared several photos of himself thoroughly enjoying durians. He also made sure to visit the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, where he snapped a photo to remember the trip. "Finally experienced the joy of durians. I scoffed four durians a day and managed seven in just three days. "Freshly picked Musang King from the tree is simply too delicious," he wrote in his post. While Fan's durian enthusiasm tickled many fans, some were quick to point out that in Malaysia, durians are typically left to fall naturally from the tree when ripe. This ensures they have the best flavour and texture. "In Malaysia, we usually let the durian fall naturally instead of picking them from the tree," one netizen commented. Fan is best known for his roles in the films Riki-Oh: The Story Of Ricky (1991) and Ip Man (2008), as well as its 2010 sequel.
