Rajesh Bhosale turns cautious on RIL, sees short-term weakness continuing
HDFC Bank
, but we sense that this momentum is likely to be led by the
ICICI Bank
," says Rajesh Bhosale, Angel One.
Tell us what is your view particularly on the indices at present
Nifty
and
Bank Nifty
?
Rajesh Bhosale:
So, yes, if we see definitely a green day for the markets. Friday, we had a weak closing for both Nifty and Bank Nifty. Despite that, there was no follow-up selling and in fact, from the crucial 50 EMA, both Nifty and Bank Nifty has bounced back. If we see Bank Nifty, it has already crossed its Friday's swing high. So, definitely we sense that this positive momentum can extend. So, for the Nifty 24,900 to 25,000 is the key support. As long this support holds, we expect Nifty to bounce back towards 25,200 to 25,250. So overall, Nifty is trading within the range of 24,900 to 25,250 and since we are at a lower range, buy on dip would be preferred for the higher targets.

As far as sectors are concerned today, MDB is the formula. M for metals; D for defence, and B for banks, leaving private banks otherwise banking sector is doing quite well. I want to ask you if you have any picks in these three sectors.
Rajesh Bhosale:
Yes. So definitely, private banks are leading the charge for today's session, especially the ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. HDFC Bank is still trading in a trading range. But if we consider
ICICI Bank
, it is almost on the verge of a channel breakout. It has been trading in a consolidation for last two months, but it is now testing the high range. And if we consider the RSI momentum indicators, possibly this positive momentum is likely to extend, so bullish on ICICI as well as
HDFC Bank
, but we sense that this momentum is likely to be led by the ICICI Bank.
I also want to know your view on Reliance Industries. It was though a mixed one can say a quarter for the
Reliance Industries
where profits did surge on the back of Jio's strong show. What is your view because there are a lot of sectors which we need to analyse while we take care of the
Reliance Industries
in particular.
Rajesh Bhosale:
Yes, so definitely, there is weakness in Reliance and the rally that we had seen during the mid-June that has been fizzled out and in fact both the short-term as well as medium-term moving averages has been breached. So, we do expect further weakness in the Reliance, possibly Reliance can retest the levels of 1400. So, as of now the view would be to wait on to buy.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Thursday said it was aware of the delays allegedly caused by the Centre in clearing recommendations made by the collegium for appointment of judges to several high courts . Notably, the bench also highlighted the recent instance of collegium's recommendation for the elevation of a Delhi lawyer to judgeship being held up. He told the bench that the matter is still pending. "There are names recommended in 2019, reiterated in 2021-22, but still pending. These names have been there for four years. They lose seniority," Datar said. In response, the CJI verbally remarked "we are also pursuing from the administrative side. I am aware". Datar added that collegium recommendations cannot be kept pending by the government for three to four years, and timelines will have to be adhered to by the government. The bench agreed and said it would list the matter for adjudication. Live Events

FTA game changer for trade, investment, services for India and UK: Piyush Goyal
London: The India-UK Free Trade Agreement ( FTA ) is truly a game changer in trade, investment and services sectors, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. The minister said it was "remarkable" that a journey which started over two decades ago culminated with a historic prime ministerial visit and in a very "fair, equitable and balanced agreement" that ensures the possibility to double India-UK trade to USD 120 billion in the next five years. Our MSME sector will get a plethora of opportunities in aircraft parts and auto components, various engineering products. Our textiles will see a massive spurt in demand, because now on a competitive basis, we will be right on top with zero duties," he said. Whether it's leather, footwear, toys, furniture, pharma products, a very wide range of India's own strengths, which we are currently exporting in big measure across the world, will find markets in the United Kingdom, Goyal said. Live Events He also highlighted the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), which has been agreed to be enforced alongside the FTA. "Our people who come and serve in UK for short term, two years or three years, who today land up losing almost 25 per cent of their earnings in Social Security, which never gives them any benefit, will now have an opportunity under the DCC to pay this money into their provident fund account in India, and that money will be secure. That money will be giving them an over 8 per cent tax-free return and will become their pension and Social Security in the long run," he explained. The minister noted that though the parliamentary ratification process in the UK will take some time, the signing process gives businesses certainty for the long run due to bipartisan support in Britain for the agreement. "The UK parliamentary process will take a few months. The good part is that it has always had bipartisan support. It was largely negotiated when the Conservatives were in power, and today, with the Labor government, it has culminated into a robust and very fair and balanced agreement, and therefore, I think this will get cleared pretty quickly," Goyal said. "Businesses will be already planning, because there's a stable and predictable environment. The Free Trade Agreement will be known to everybody, and businesses can start integrating their supply chains and can start planning the benefits of this agreement, planning their business growth because of this agreement. So, I think the work will start right away. The benefits will start accruing in a few months," he said. At a personal level, the minister described the agreement as an "extremely redeeming and satisfying" moment that concluded with a great rapport with his UK counterpart. He added: "I feel very humbled that Prime Minister Modi reposed confidence and faith in me to be able to conclude this agreement, which has been quite complicated. "Many, many years have gone by. Talks have been on and off, but I feel very humbled by the experience. I feel very, very satisfied with the outcome, and I'm sure what started as a very difficult negotiation, but has concluded in a very friendly and very amiable relationship, will continue in the years to come to be a torch bearer for the progress and development of both countries."

Markets fall amid IT, FMCG earnings disappointment; Sensex down 543 points
Domestic equity benchmarks closed lower on Thursday, weighed down by selling in heavyweight stocks like Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and IT majors. Investor caution prevailed amid ongoing India-US trade negotiations and mixed corporate earnings. The Sensex settled at 82,184, down 543 points, or 0.6 per cent, while the Nifty closed at 25,062, dropping 158 points, 0.6 per cent. The selloff erased ₹2.2 trillion from the total market capitalisation, which is now at ₹458 trillion. Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Infosys contributed most to the Sensex decline. IT stocks faced significant pressure after mid-tier firms, Coforge and Persistent Systems, reported weaker-than-expected quarterly results. The Nifty IT index plunged 2.2 per cent – its sharpest single-day fall since May 13 – despite Infosys beating earnings estimates. "IT firms show anaemic revenue growth and profit degrowth, making current valuations unsustainable. Minimal recruitment signals limited near-term upside. Without a dramatic turnaround, these valuations won't hold," said UR Bhat, Co-founder of Alphaniti Fintech. The market's cautious tone persisted even as India and the UK signed a free trade agreement, granting 99 per cent of Indian exports (textiles to engineering goods) tariff concessions. However, analysts noted limited immediate market reaction due to focus on earnings. "Initial optimism about the UK FTA briefly lifted pharma and textile stocks, but attention quickly shifted back to earnings," Bhat added. Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said, "Subdued Q1 performances dragged IT and FMCG stocks. While earnings are broadly in line, they don't justify India's premium 21 times price-to-earnings multiple. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net sellers of ₹2,134 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) provided support with net buying of ₹2,617 crore. Market breadth remained weak, with 2,517 declining stocks versus 1,542 gainers on the BSE. Looking ahead, Siddhartha Khemka, Head of Research at Motilal Oswal Wealth Management, said: "We expect range-bound markets with stock-specific moves driven by Q1 earnings. Global cues, including UK FTA formalisation and India-US trade talks, will be closely monitored." The Indian markets have underperformed emerging market peers, with the Nifty declining 1.8 per cent even as the MSCI EM ex-Japan gained 4 per cent.
