Missing man's decomposed body found
After over three months of endless uncertainty, the search for the missing 68-year-old, Saminathan 'Gary' Pillai, has ended after he was tragically found dead in a bush in Elandspoort.
According to his daughter-in-law, Nickayla Broodryk, Pillai's body was discovered on June 18 in the bushes close to a bridge at the entrance of Elandspoort.
She said Pillai was found after a WhatsApp voice note from a community group was shared with them.
'The person who spoke on the voice note said there was a body and a motorbike in the bushes behind the Sasol garage and that people should check on their loved ones.'
She said the description was the same as Pillai's.
'He was in a deteriorating condition when we identified him at the forensics.'
Broodryk said Pillai has left a respectable legacy behind.
'My father-in-law was loved by everyone. They affectionately called him Daddy G, because he filled the father figure role for so many – not just through words, but through wisdom, kindness, and action.'
'He had a heart for people and was always willing to help,' she said.
She said, despite the immense pain, they are united as a family and firmly rooted in their faith, which has been their source of strength.
'The support from all the cousins and extended family has been overwhelming, in the most beautiful way.
'We are truly grateful for every person who has stood by us, prayed with us, and carried us through this unimaginable time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.'
Saminathan Pillai leaves behind his three sons Boo, Leroy, and Ishmail.

Bolhuis issues warning over Gerlu Roos
A prominent name in Mpumalanga agricultural circles, Gert Lukas 'Gerlu' Roos, is being accused by his own family of fraud, for alleged purchases under the accounts of family-owned businesses, which have not been paid. Roos is already facing one fraud charge, which was made against him in Belfast, and according to Mike Bolhuis from Specialised Security Services, more charges will be made against Roos in due course. The fraud charge stems from incidents in which Roos allegedly made purchases in the accounts of family-owned businesses, without making payments to the accounts. The purchases are largely agriculturally related. According to Bolhuis' allegations, Roos has previously made himself guilty of similar fraudulent acts, and these cases will be added to the existing fraud charge once those cases have been opened with the police. The pending charge was reported in Belfast, but Bolhuis warns that Roos allegedly has been making similar purchases in Middelburg, Delmas, and Mbombela, and that these purchases are made on the accounts of Roos Boerdery or B&R Bio Produkte. A court date for his first formal appearance has not yet been set for the fraud charge. Attempts to get hold of Roos for comment on the allegations being made against him have been unsuccessful by the time of publication. An automated message on WhatsApp in answer to the Middelburg Observer's enquiry read that he is busy with continued government, agricultural and entrepreneurial-related responsibilities. Roos has not responded personally. All calls have also been answered with an automated answering system that first enquires the caller to identify themselves and give a reason for their call before the call gets put through. All calls also remained unanswered before the time of publication. Bolhuis warned agricultural businesses not to agree to any good-natured transactions between themselves and Roos, and to confirm any account-related purchases with the company names he provides. Police nab 343 suspects in Tshwane
Police were out in full force in Tshwane this weekend targeting the rural precincts of Cullinan and Boschkop. Captain Johan Van Dyk said the police in Tshwane were continuing to tackle the disruptive crime operations with Operation Shanela. 'This planned intervention is aimed at continued actions by addressing crime in Tshwane,' said Van Dyk. He added that the crime interventions resulted in the arrest of 343 suspects for various criminal offences. He continued, 'These results are a direct outcome of planning, strategic deployments and heightened visibility aimed at reducing crime and continued tracking and tracing of wanted suspects.' He said through the strategic deployments, detectives were responsible for 274 arrests, including 82 suspects for gender-based violence-related offences, one for murder, six for attempted murder, eight for armed robbery, 26 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 10 for rape. He said a roadblock with two operational teams was deployed in the Cullinan and Boschkop areas, resulting in 906 individuals and 450 vehicles being searched. He said 13 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 22 undocumented foreign nationals were detained. According to Van Dyk, 'The undocumented foreign nationals are currently being processed by immigration authorities.' 'Targeted patrols were conducted at 18 identified crime hotspots, leading to further arrests and the issuing of fines, including 20 persons for public drinking with eight persons for being intoxicated in public.' He said traffic enforcement units issued 16 AARTO infringement notices, totalling R7 250 in fines. 'Liquor compliance inspections were carried out at 15 establishments, resulting in four being closed for non-compliance. A total of 724,145 ml of alcohol and two music sound systems were confiscated.' Van Dyk said the operation was executed by the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and representatives of the local Community Policing Forum. Car crash claims three, forces temporary N2 closure at Amatikulu
A major crash between a car and tanker on the N2 near the Amatikulu River claimed the lives of three women this morning. Two men were also injured in the accident, while the highway was closed in both directions to allow for safe clean-up of the tanker, which was carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) The accident happened at around 11am, killing three women aged 15 to 65 and leaving one man trapped. Members of IPSS Search and Rescue and the Mandeni Fire Department were able to free the man and take him to hospital, alongside another man who was not as seriously injured. Teams worked under immense pressure once they discovered the tanker's cargo. 'The area was immediately declared unsafe due to the risk posed by the LPG tanker,' said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick. 'Only essential personnel remained at the scene, and the N2 was closed.' The highway has remained closed since, with 6.45pm this evening (June 28) being reported as the latest estimate for reopening. Northbound traffic is being diverted at the Mandeni offramp and southbound traffic at Dokodweni. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and make use of alternative routes.
