Yang Di-Pertua Negeri confers Sarawak state honours on 151 individuals
KUCHING (May 29): A total of 151 individuals were today conferred with various state honours and awards in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions across multiple fields in Sarawak.
The prestigious awards were presented by the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in a ceremony at the Astana Negeri.
The ceremony was witnessed by Wan Junaidi's wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi as well as prominent state officials including Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai; Deputy State Secretary (Operations), Datu Hii Chang Kee; State Deputy Transport Minister, Dato Henry Harry Jinep; Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Juanda Jaya; and Federal State Secretary, Dato Ahmad Nadzri.
Leading the recipients of the Johan Bintang Sarawak (JBS) award were Pemanca Roshidi Junai, Sarawak Australia Business Chamber (SABC) President Rodger Chan Siong Boh, and Bintulu Port CEO Ruslan Abdul Ghani.
Meanwhile, former Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo was honoured as the sole recipient of the Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK) award.
The Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (PBS) award was presented to nine individuals, including Tanjung Dato assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, Serumbu assemblyman Miro Simuh, and Sarawak Metro Chief Executive Officer Mazli Mustaffa.
Fifteen recipients received the Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang (PBK) award, among them Dr Ali Mudin, Juan Ubit, and Madeline George Pau.
Twenty individuals were conferred the Ahli Bintang Sarawak (ABS), including DSP Dr Daram Ruer, Peter Supeh (alias James Kator Supes), and Jonthy Bunsi, daughter of the late Bunsi Sat.
Eighteen individuals received the Ahli Bintang Kenyalang (ABK) award, with recipients such as Galau Melina, Pauzi Ameng, and Gladys Lim Ai Hui.
The Bentara Bintang Sarawak (BBS) award was bestowed upon 24 recipients, including Abdul Rahim Bahtiar, Bunyau Manggeh, and Dayang Salmah Awang Chee.
Among those honoured with the Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (PPC) were Sharifah Rohana Datu Wan Alwi, Catherine Ridu, and Dolhadi Mazuki.
The Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (PPB) was awarded to 18 individuals, including Lt Col Robert Edward Ngayong, Technologist Cheing Siong Ming, and Bong Lin Sze.
The Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (PPT) was presented to 37 recipients, including Affendi Bunchuan, Lily Marlina Abdul Rahman, and Rokiah Ali.
Additionally, two individuals received the Pingat Perwira Negeri (PPN) (Bronze) award for their bravery and sacrifice in serving the people: Nehemia Bonel Pantulusang and Nora Ibrahim, daughter of the late Ibrahim Saili.
When met by Utusan Borneo , Rodger Chan expressed his deep honour at receiving the JBS award, noting it as his second state award after previously receiving the PBK, which was personally nominated by the late former state Governor Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud.
Chan extended his sincere gratitude to his wife Sow Fong, the Premier, and the State Secretary for the recognition.

Besides his role as President of the Sarawak Australia Business Chamber, Chan holds several key positions including President of the Kuching Chung Hua Primary School No. 5 Alumni Association, CEO of Australia Business Centre Sdn Bhd, and Director of NZ Centre Sdn Bhd and NetInc Technologies Sdn Bhd.
He also serves as Deputy President of the Malaysia Zhangzhou Association, council member of the Sarawak Government Early Childhood Development Council, Vice Chairman of the Sarawak Chawan Association, and Sarawak Tian (Chan) Association.

PM Anwar Flags Off 2025 KMJG Convoy, Marking Start Of National Month Celebrations
MUAR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today flagged off the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy at Dataran Tanjung Emas here, marking the official start of the National Month celebrations and spreading the spirit of patriotism across the nation. The historic event saw participation from a wide range of groups, including civil servants, gig workers, motorsport enthusiasts, security forces, and for the first time, local fishermen who proudly displayed the Jalur Gemilang as they sailed along the Muar River. A total of 59 fishing boats, manned by the local fishing community, along with vessels from the Department of Marine (2 units), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) (3 units), and the Marine Police (2 units), were all adorned with the Jalur Gemilang. In total, 172 participants were involved, symbolising the support of rural and coastal communities for the nation's independence. In addition, 88 land vehicles joined the convoy, with 133 participants from various agencies and organisations, including the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Pos Malaysia, Johor state government departments, the BMW K16 Motorsport Club of Johor, and gig economy vehicles. The convoy will pass through 88 checkpoints - 44 in Peninsular Malaysia, 20 in Sabah, 22 in Sarawak, and two in the Federal Territory of Labuan, before concluding at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31, the location of the 2025 National Day celebrations. Present at the flag off ceremony were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. The launch event featured various community-centered programmes, including the Kita MADANI Carnival, with activities such as colouring contests, Bintang Suara MADANI, cultural performances, and local heritage displays. Additionally, the MADANI Community entrepreneur booths brought together micro and small business owners from across the country, while the MADANI Sales programme and booths offering services from both government and private agencies were set up to engage the public.

Petaling Jaya council backs state parking privatisation amid revenue concerns
PETALING JAYA: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has given its conditional backing to the Selangor government's decision to privatise on-street parking across the state. The council's primary concern centres on maintaining, if not increasing, its current parking fee revenue. Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon confirmed the council's stance, emphasising that any deal must guarantee the city receives at least the same level of income from parking fees as it does now. "We also still need to fine-tune many aspects of enforcement, including the duration and basis of enforcement officers' involvement, to ensure a smooth privatisation process," he told reporters today after the closing ceremony of the PJ International Outdoor Expo 2025 at the Kelana Jaya Sports Complex on Sunday (July 27). Zahri underscored the importance of ensuring the city council's revenue from parking fee collection remains stable, if not improved. He added that the privatisation "should not disrupt the parking situation in Petaling Jaya". The move follows an announcement on July 9 by state local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim, who revealed that a newly appointed concession company would take over parking fee collection and enforcement in four Selangor local councils from Aug 1. This initiative falls under Selangor's Intelligent Parking (SIP) programme. Ng stated that the company was appointed by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) for the first phase, which includes MBPJ, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS). Zahri noted that MBPJ had "on multiple occasions requested for MBI Selangor to present an agreeable proposal." He said that "there are parts that we agree with, and there are some that require further details," indicating ongoing discussions with MBI. On July 15, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shahri clarified that the operator for SIP was appointed by MBI through an open tender, which saw 26 interested companies submit requests for proposals. Amirudin also explained that enforcement would remain the responsibility of the respective local authorities. The SIP initiative has, however, drawn criticism from several state MPs who have voiced concerns. They warn that the privatisation deal could lead to a shortfall of up to RM10mil for MBPJ and potentially infringe upon the statutory rights of local councils to manage parking under the Road Transport Act 1987.

Loke: Taxi drivers to get a makeover for Visit Malaysia 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — The Transport Ministry plans to provide basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), said its Minister, Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Loke said this is important because the taxi industry is more than just transportation, but represents the heartbeat of public service and serves as the first impression of the country for tourists. He added that the government has also extended the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contribution incentive from 10 per cent to 30 per cent to safeguard the safety and welfare of taxi drivers. 'These reforms are ongoing, and I will continue to work with this industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of the people,' he posted on Facebook. Earlier, Loke officiated the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association (GTSM), which gave him the opportunity to hear for himself the industry's views. As Transport Minister, he believes that meaningful reforms in the sector can only be implemented through close collaboration with industry players, such as the GTSM. — Bernama
