The proposal was shared during a courtesy call by the Sarawak Students Association in United Kingdom at the Astana Negeri in Petra Jaya yesterday. Also present was Wan Junaidi's wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. In a Facebook post after the visit, Wan Junaidi emphasised that Sarawak's distinctive legal framework, including native customary rights (NCR) to land, requires practitioners who understand its intricacies. He expressed hope that a locally-rooted law faculty would produce legal experts who are not only academically trained but also deeply familiar with Sarawak's constitutional and legislative context. He also highlighted the importance of grasping key national documents such as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Federal Constitution, and the Sarawak State Constitution, alongside the responsibilities of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri. He urged the students, particularly those pursuing legal training, to seek hands-on exposure through court visits and to avoid shortcuts in building their careers. He encouraged students to return home after their studies and contribute towards Sarawak's development, echoing the state government's commitment to creating job opportunities and nurturing homegrown talent. Both Wan Junaidi and Fauziah conveyed their appreciation for the students' visit and extended well-wishes for their future success. law faculty lead local universities Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar

The Transport Minister, who is Sarawak Day celebration minister in charge, pointed out Wan Junaidi's most significant contribution was as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Parliament) when the Federal Constitution was amended to restore several of Sarawak's rights. 'Tun Pehin Sri is not only an esteemed figure in administration and legal affairs, but also a true patriot who once stood at the frontline in defending the sovereignty of our homeland,' Lee said in his welcoming speech at the Sarawak Day celebration at Miri Indoor Stadium last night. He noted that Wan Junaidi has always placed Sarawak's interests at the forefront within the framework of the Malaysian Federation, whether in his roles as lawmaker, minister, speaker, or now as Head of State. Lee pointed out that during Wan Junaidi's service with the Police Field Force, the latter had risked his life in several operations against the North Kalimantan Communist Party in areas such as Miri, Sibu, and Kapit. Wan Junaidi's bravery during those tumultuous times stands as a testament to his loyalty and the indomitable spirit of a true son of Sarawak, Lee said. 'Tun Pehin Sri is not only known as a leader of calibre and integrity, but also as a statesman dedicated to Sarawak's development, as well as the unity and prosperity of its people,' he added. He thanked Wan Junaidi and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi for their presence at this year's Sarawak Day celebration. 'We all pray for the continued protection of His Excellency Tun and Toh Puan, and that they will remain as guiding pillars leading us towards a progressive and prosperous Sarawak,' he added. Among those present at the event were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, and Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. lead Lee Kim Shin Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar

KUCHING: Sarawak Governor Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has urged the people of Sarawak to stay united and collaborate with both government and private sectors to secure a prosperous future for the state. His message, commemorating Sarawak Day, highlighted the historical significance of July 22, 1963, when administrative power was transferred from British rule to Sarawak's first local government led by Chief Minister Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan. 'This event marked a pivotal step in preparing Sarawak to join Malaysia alongside Sabah, Singapore, and Malaya. 'The transfer occurred before Sarawak officially became part of the Federation on September 16, 1963,' he said. Wan Junaidi described this as the foundation of Sarawak's identity as a sovereign state within Malaysia. He paid tribute to pioneers like Ningkan and Datuk Seri Tawi Sli, acknowledging their roles in establishing self-governance. He also honored former chief ministers, including the late Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, and Tan Sri Adenan Satem, for their contributions to Sarawak's development. Praising current leadership, Wan Junaidi commended Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for advancing the state through the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. He noted the strategy's focus on digital economy, renewable energy, bioeconomy, and education, positioning Sarawak as a global leader in green and digital energy. 'Sarawak's economy has shown strong resilience post-pandemic and is set to lead in sustainable energy. This progress relies on collaboration between government, private sector, and the people,' he said. 'We remember and honour the contributions of our pioneers such as Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan and Datuk Seri Tawi Sli, who played vital roles in establishing our own administration,' he said. He also expressed his appreciation for the service and dedication of former chief ministers, including the late Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub, the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, and the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, for their significant contributions to Sarawak's progress and development. Commenting on the current state government leadership, Wan Junaidi lauded the efforts of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in steering the state towards greater progress through the implementation of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
