These two have already made a significant impact on the Silver and Black through free agency, the NFL Draft, OTAs and minicamp. With training camp now on the horizon, however, Raider Nation should not forget about a mid-season addition from last year.
Legendary quarterback Tom Brady is now the team's minority owner, and he has been a pivotal sounding board for owner Mark Davis as it pertains to the organization's big decisions.

Brady recently spoke to Paul Gutierrez of Raiders.com about his first offseason working with the Silver and Black. He gave an honest assessment about the team's new leadership tandem of Carroll and Spytek.

"They've worked together very well, and there's a lot of decisions that are made," Brady said. "Winning games in September starts with what happens in February, March and April, when no one's really watching. They've been hard at work."
Carroll and Spytek have certainly made a lot of crucial decisions this offseason, as changes needed to be made from last year's four-win team. Brady also detailed some of the Raiders' goals during the 2025 NFL season.
"Our goal is to, you know, win a lot of football games. You've got to work hard at it, and it's all earned, and we've got a tough division," Brady said. "There's a lot of good opponents we face. But it's going to be up to the guys and their daily commitment to doing the right things."
Las Vegas opens its first campaign under Carroll and Spytek in Week 1 on the road against the New England Patriots. They will play their first AFC West division game in Week 2 at home against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football.

Jonnu Smith reacts to his blockbuster trade: 'I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler'

The Pittsburgh trade rumors are over — Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith is now a Steeler, and he just made his feelings on the situation known. Days after the blockbuster trade that saw the Dolphins send Smith and All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh's newest tight end shared his honest reaction with former Miami teammate OT Terron Armstead: "I didn't foresee this happening with how the season went for me, individually," Smith told Armstead in a one-on-one interview. "Obviously, I had aspirations of ending my career in Miami, with it basically being home for me, my children, my family — but I understand the business side of it, and it didn't work out. I'm grateful. I got no ill feelings toward Miami or nobody in the organization. I can't sit here and lie — say that it didn't sting, when the process was playing itself out…" After revealing his take on leaving Miami, his somber attitude took a complete 180 when discussing his new home in Pittsburgh: "But all in all bro, I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler," Smith said. "You know what I'm saying? I'm playing for one of the most historic sports franchises in the history of sports — under a great head coach with [Mike Tomlin], back with my dog Arthur Smith, who I had a lot of success with throughout my career. So, I'm extremely blessed, bro, and I couldn't be more excited." Following the trade, Smith took to social media to post a hype video for his arrival in Pittsburgh — one that had Steelers fans ready to run through a wall. Smith has more than enough fuel in the tank for another Pro Bowl-caliber season in 2025 — which is shaping up to be a Super Bowl-or-bust year as Aaron Rodgers' retirement looms. Famous Washington trade is the best player-for-player swap this centure

Player-for-player trades are rare in the NFL. We saw it this week when the Pittsburgh Steelers sent All-Pro safety to the Miami Dolphins for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The Steelers also received tight end Jonnu Smith, who made the Pro Bowl last season. Regardless of one's current opinion of these players, it's always a significant event when teams trade players. The fallout from that trade led Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports to look back at the eight best player-for-player swaps this century. The Ramsey-Fitzpatrick swap ranked No. 3. What was No. 1? Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey (2004) One of the most surprising trades in NFL history happened during the 2004 offseason, as Washington moved on from Bailey and received Portis and a 2004 second-round pick from the Denver Broncos. Both players combined for five Pro Bowls at the time of the trade (Bailey four and Portis one) and were amongst the best in the league at their respective positions. Washington put the franchise tag on Bailey while Portis sought a new contract. The stars aligned for both to be dealt. Bailey added to his Hall of Fame resume with the Broncos, making eight Pro Bowls and five All-Pro teams. He corralled 34 interceptions in his 10 seasons with the Broncos. Portis was good in Washington as well, recording four 1,000-yard seasons and two double-digit touchdown campaigns. He received All-Pro honors in 2008. This shouldn't come as a surprise. Portis was entering his third NFL season and had rushed for over 3,000 yards in his first two seasons, breaking numerous Denver records. Bailey, meanwhile, was already a four-time Pro Bowl selection in his first five NFL seasons for the Redskins. Looking back at how things played out, this worked out well for both teams; however, Bailey is a Hall of Famer, while Portis had a really good career. Remember, Washington also sent a second-round pick to Denver as part of the deal. Bailey played 10 seasons for the Broncos, while Portis played seven seasons for Washington. Bailey wanted out of Washington due to a contract squabble with former owner Dan Snyder. Legendary head coach Joe Gibbs, who had just returned for his second stint, wanted a star running back to build his offense around. The trade made sense for both teams, except for Washington's inclusion of a premium draft pick. Portis has remained around the now-Commanders for years. He has worked for the team's preseason broadcasting crew and has regularly attended games, supporting the franchise over the years. Bailey made peace with the organization after Snyder sold the team in 2023 and has been to games in each of the past two years. It's difficult to name any player-for-player swap over the last 25 years that was this impactful across the league. One trade not on this list that should have been: Washington's 2005 trade for wide receiver Santana Moss. The Redskins sent Laveranues Coles to the New York Jets for Moss. Washington clearly won that deal as Moss became a franchise fixture over the next 10 seasons.

Steelers' Cam Heyward reveals the conflicting nature of the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade

A blockbuster trade brought Dolphins All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh — but the cost was heavy. A well-respected member of the Steelers defense, FS Minkah Fitzpatrick, has left the Steel City — and Cam Heyward shared his honest take on the "bittersweet" move. On Tuesday's episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, the veteran Steelers defender wasted little time addressing the Fitzpatrick-sized elephant in the room — revealing his conflicted reaction to news: Advertisement "The way we heard about it first, it was we traded for Jalen Ramsey — and we're like, 'Alright, that's cool,'' Heyward said. 'You got Minkah [Fitzpatrick], you got the DeShon [Elliott], you got Joey [Porter Jr.], you got [Darius] Slay, and now you have Jalen Ramsey, and you think, 'Dang, that's going to be really cool to see those DBs just fly around.' 'And then, I got the gut check of losing a really good teammate in Minkah Fitzpatrick, and I'm like, 'Dang, I don't know how to feel about this.' It's bittersweet. I've enjoyed playing with him, and I was kind of just shook by it all. … I'm excited about the new teammates, but I'm also sad to be losing a guy that I really respect in the locker room." Many, including myself, felt the same way Heyward felt — as while acquiring talented players like Ramsey and Smith is exciting, losing Fitzpatrick so abruptly leaves a massive hole in the secondary. The Steelers allegedly plan to use their trio of talented cornerbacks to replace Fitzpatrick on defense — but whether Pittsburgh chooses to address his departure in free agency remains to be seen.
