Jonnu Smith reacts to his blockbuster trade: 'I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler'
Days after the blockbuster trade that saw the Dolphins send Smith and All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh's newest tight end shared his honest reaction with former Miami teammate OT Terron Armstead:
"I didn't foresee this happening with how the season went for me, individually," Smith told Armstead in a one-on-one interview. "Obviously, I had aspirations of ending my career in Miami, with it basically being home for me, my children, my family — but I understand the business side of it, and it didn't work out. I'm grateful. I got no ill feelings toward Miami or nobody in the organization. I can't sit here and lie — say that it didn't sting, when the process was playing itself out…"
After revealing his take on leaving Miami, his somber attitude took a complete 180 when discussing his new home in Pittsburgh:
"But all in all bro, I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler," Smith said. "You know what I'm saying? I'm playing for one of the most historic sports franchises in the history of sports — under a great head coach with [Mike Tomlin], back with my dog Arthur Smith, who I had a lot of success with throughout my career. So, I'm extremely blessed, bro, and I couldn't be more excited."
Following the trade, Smith took to social media to post a hype video for his arrival in Pittsburgh — one that had Steelers fans ready to run through a wall.
Smith has more than enough fuel in the tank for another Pro Bowl-caliber season in 2025 — which is shaping up to be a Super Bowl-or-bust year as Aaron Rodgers' retirement looms.

T.J. Watt and Steelers Engage in Ugly Exchange Per Report
T.J. Watt and Steelers Engage in Ugly Exchange Per Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. How badly are contract talks going between the Pittsburgh Steelers and T.J. Watt? So badly — according to one report — that the two sides have exchanged face-to-face insults regarding which side is "fortunate'' to be associated with the other. Advertisement By now, NFL fans all understand the essentials here. Watt and the Steelers are at odds over which direction their contract negotiations should go. Does Watt deserve a contract extension? Fine. At age 31, should the Steelers be happy to break the bank over a long-term contract? Less than fine. The superstar EDGE and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is entering the final season of his deal in 2025 and has been holding out as he seeks an extension from the team. A fair number is certainly over $30 million APY. But Watt's reported demand blows that number out of the water. During an appearance on the "Rich Eisen Show" on Tuesday, insider Gerry Dulac, who covers the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, said Watt wants nothing less than to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Advertisement "The stalemate is going to be that T.J. Watt wants to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league," Dulac said. That means Watt is seeking a deal worth over $40 million annually. Enter another report from a local media person, as in appearing on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, NFL insider Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports shared details on an exchange that reportedly took place ... and got ugly. 'T.J. Watt was openly told, 'You're fortunate to be a Steeler,'' Kinkhabwala alleged. 'And his response was, 'You're fortunate to have me.'' Kinkhabwala continued ... 'The Steelers' attitude, the Steelers' mindset ... is that it is such a privilege to be in this uniform, to wear this uniform,' Kinkhabwala said. 'That, therefore, you should take a hometown discount just because you get to play for one of these cornerstone trademark organizations.' Advertisement We wonder if Aditi is sort of paraphrasing here. But if this is even close to being literally accurate? It means these two sides presently have more separating them that money. Bettis Reveals Steelers' 'Special' Prediction In Rodgers Backfield
Bettis Reveals Steelers' 'Special' Prediction In Rodgers Backfield originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's Aaron Rodgers' world; the rest of us are just living in it. It's also Aaron Rodgers' backfield. ... But somebody's got to play running back alongside him, right? Advertisement The legendary Pittsburgh Steelers "bus'' Jerome Bettis is now casting his vote for who that should be. And while saying upbeat things about both candidates, he seems to be leaning pretty clearly in one direction. And when Bettis leans in a direction, you feel it. 'I think they've got two running backs that actually can complement each other,'' Bettis recently said on the Jim Rome Show. And ... "I think Jaylen Warren is a really good running back,'' Bettis continued. "He'll get more opportunities, more carries. He'll show what he's capable of. But Kaleb Johnson, a young running back they drafted out of Iowa, I really believe he's got a chance to be special.' Advertisement And there you have it. Bettis, a member of the Steelers' All-Time Team as a decade-long star here spanning the 1990s and the 2000s, is surely rooting for both candidates. Bettis added, "The biggest component to all of this is the offensive line. Can the offensive line create that opportunity in the running game but also help in the passing game?'' And as with any offense, that's key. ... just as it's key that Rodgers, at 41 and planning to play his final NFL season as a one-and-done hero in Pittsburgh, is essential. But the Steelers know what Warren can do, and he's been solid in combo behind the now-departed (to the Chargers) Najee Harris. Kaleb? He's the new toy under the Christmas tree, no doubt. But third-round rookie Johnson has size at 6-1 and 224 pounds that Warren (though he does carry 215 pounds on his 5-8 frame) does not possess. And Kaleb is considered a smooth runner, too. Advertisement Is he bullish like Bettis, who played at 5-11 and 250? Shifty like Le'Veon Bell? Is he even better than Warren? We don't know. But we are collecting votes. And "The Bus'' just cast his. Oneil Cruz put in his place over lack of hustle
The post Oneil Cruz put in his place over lack of hustle appeared first on ClutchPoints. In late May, Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz set a Statcast record with two home runs against the Milwaukee Brewers. Advertisement One of those homers reached 122.9 miles per hour, the hardest hit ball in the Statcast era. Ironically, a month later, against the Brewers, he made a name for himself in a different way. However, it wasn't in a good way. On Tuesday, Cruz was removed from the game for not running out a double-play grounder, per ESPN. It came in the 7th inning with the Pirates trailing 7-3 with a runner on first. Cruz grounded out in a 6-4-3 double play, but slowly made his way to first after the force out at second. Cruz said he thought that was the third out. Ultimately, Pirates manager Don Kelly removed Cruz in the 8th inning for not hustling on that play. Advertisement In the end, the Pirates lost to the Brewers 9-3. Afterward, Cruz spoke of the decision and took accountability. 'DK had all the rights to do what he did, and I'll back him up on that,' he said. 'It was my fault because I thought there were two outs in that situation. That's why I let off running to first base.' Additionally, Kelly said he talked with Cruz and explained his decision. 'We talked,' Kelly said. 'He knows the expectation. Right there, I feel we fell a little short.' Furthermore, Kelly didn't say whether he would put Cruz in the lineup for Wednesday's game. 'We're going to sit down and talk, and we'll figure that out,' he said. Advertisement Oneil Cruz's place on the Pirates Cruz is a ubiquitous player who plays both shortstop and center field. He was drafted by the Pirates in 2021. This year, Cruz is batting .208 batting average with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases (the most in the National League). Altogether, Cruz is a young promising player with quickness, agility, and power. He also holds the Pirates consecutive stolen base record with 34.
