China says Premier Li to visit Brazil for BRICS summit and Egypt
'Li Qiang will attend the 17th BRICS Summit upon invitation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 5 to 8,' a foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement.
Beijing and Moscow have hailed the BRICS club as a counterweight to what they see as Western hegemony on the world stage.
A loose grouping of countries named after founding members Brazil, Russia, India and China, its members pledge to boost trade and cooperation, though it is not a trade pact and has few institutional ties.
The Kremlin said last week, however, that President Vladimir Putin would not travel to Brazil for the upcoming summit due to the outstanding International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant on the Russian president.
Following his visit to Brazil, Li will then 'pay an official visit to Egypt from July 9 to 10', Beijing said.
Beijing has sought to frame itself as a mediator in the Middle East, facilitating a 2023 rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran and portraying itself as a more neutral actor in the Israel-Palestinian conflict than its rival the United States.

With collective effort and unity. When citizens are united and choose the correct path and proceed along it," Sandu told a news conference at the end of the meeting. "The European Union is already happening here. The only risk is if we stop. If we decide this autumn that nothing will stop us, then everything is possible." Sandu and her party have denounced Russia's invasion of Ukraine and accuse Moscow of destabilising their country. Russia says many Moldovans want to retain links with Moscow and accuse her of fomenting Russophobia. Opinion polls show that it will be difficult for any one party to secure a majority in the assembly. Should no majority emerge, talks would have to follow talks with other pro-European parties. At the summit, attended by the head of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and Antonio Costa, head of the European Council, the EU announced the disbursement of the first 270 million euro ($318 million) tranche of an Economic Growth Plan. Also announced was an accord to enable Moldovans to communicate by telephone in EU countries without roaming charges, a measure meant to stimulate business contacts. Podgorica forum promotes China-Montenegro trade, technology cooperation
PODGORICA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- More than a hundred government officials and business representatives gathered in Podgorica on Friday to explore opportunities for trade and technological cooperation between Montenegro and China. Among the prominent attendees were Dino Tutundzic, state secretary of Montenegro's Ministry of Energy and Mining; Krsto Radenovic, state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management; Song Junji, vice governor of China's Shandong Province; and Lu Fangqing, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Montenegro. Addressing the forum, Radenovic highlighted the enormous potential for agricultural cooperation between the two countries. He expressed hope for the introduction of advanced Chinese technologies in agricultural production and food processing, as well as support for building modern irrigation and water resource management systems. He also welcomed joint investments with Chinese partners to help bring more Montenegrin agricultural products into the Chinese market. Lu noted that China regards Montenegro as an important partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Anwar to push inclusive trade, AI governance
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver two country statements at the 17th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government, focusing on strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial affairs, and artificial intelligence (AI). Themed "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance", the summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6 and 7. Malaysia's Acting Head of Mission in Brazil, Datuk Mohammad Ali Selamat, said Anwar began his working visit to Rio de Janeiro yesterday and will remain there until Monday for the summit. He said Anwar's attendance follows an invitation from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. "The prime minister will present Malaysia's perspective on the importance of reinforcing multilateralism and international cooperation in addressing global challenges, particularly in areas such as the economy, international trade and AI. "As the current Asean chair, Malaysia is promoting regional cooperation through digital transformation, AI governance and more inclusive trade," he said at an online press conference on Thursday. He said Anwar will focus on global health and climate change challenges, as well as efforts to address them through international cooperation, when delivering Malaysia's country statement during the environment, COP30, and global health sessions on the second day of the summit. "The prime minister will also highlight efforts to strengthen climate financing and ensure a just and sustainable transition," he said, adding that Anwar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member states and partner countries on the sidelines of the summit. He said Anwar's country statement reflects Malaysia's commitment to strengthening multilateralism and championing the voice and interests of developing nations, in line with the core objectives of BRICS. "As the Asean chair in 2025, Malaysia will strive to enhance cooperation between Asean and BRICS to boost regional economic collaboration, contributing to a collective effort towards a fairer and more sustainable global economy." He added that Malaysia's participation in the summit is in the capacity of a BRICS partner country and as the Asean chair, and that there is no clear direction yet regarding full membership in BRICS. "Full membership is a matter to be decided by consensus among BRICS member countries, and as of now, Malaysia has not reached that stage."
