Injured Rishabh Pant will miss India's fifth test vs. England
India coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Pant's injury for the first time after the visitors salvaged a draw in the fourth test at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Pant retired hurt on day one when taken off the field on a cart with his foot badly swollen but he returned, limping, on day 2 to reach a half century.
'It's been declared that he's out of the series, and one thing I want to say is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on something Rishabh did for the team and for the country as well,' Gambhir said. 'Any amount of praise is not enough for him, especially batting with a broken foot.
'I think the generations to come forward will talk about it and the generations coming forward should talk about it.'
Pant was injured when attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and the ball deflected onto his right ankle and foot.
India did not confirm at the time the extent of the injury, but he was replaced as wicket-keeper by Dhruv Jurel for the remainder of the match.
He wasn't required to bat in India's second innings, with the visitors earning a draw in Manchester after Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar (101 not out) all reached centuries on the final day.
England leads the series 2-1 going into the final test at the Oval next week.

Reds pitcher Hunter Greene suffers setback from groin injury, scratched from rehab start
So much for Hunter Greene returning from the injured list soon after the All-Star break when the Cincinnati Reds can use their Opening Day starter most. Greene, a first-time All-Star last year who was off to a strong start this year, had his injury rehab assignment pushed back because of recurring "tightness" in the area of the groin injury he suffered in early May and aggravated in late May. Results this week of another MRI on the area came back clean enough that manager Terry Francona said the club was "really pleased" with the results. 'But he's still feeling it, at times,' Francona said. 'I think there's not a lot of confidence there yet. Sometimes I think it feels fatigued. And we want to do the right thing. 'Sometimes it's very difficult. That's why we went out and got the MRI,' Francona said. 'You ask somebody to go out there and let it loose and throw 100 mph, and you don't want them worrying about anything.' Greene threw a simulated-game inning last week followed by a bullpen session Saturday in Philadelphia in preparation for what was to be the first start Tuesday in a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. 'I felt tightness,' he said. 'Doesn't make sense to go pitch when I still have a little tightness.' Greene was originally diagnosed with a Grade 1 groin strain, and the team indicated the subsequent MRI after aggravating it showed no additional severity. After consulting Monday afternoon with medial staff and team officials, Greene was scratched from Tuesday's scheduled rehab start. 'We're going to take some steps to give him a little more time so that when he does go out he's rarin' to go,' Francona said. What that means for a new timeline for a return from the IL was not immediately clear. The original rehab schedule appeared to give him enough time at Louisville to make two starts and be evaluated for a possible return to the rotation in the first turn after next week's break. The latest news suggests a timeline that could push into August even without another setback. 'We're going to take it day by day,' said Greene, who hasn't pitched since aggravating the injury in a start May 28 in Kansas City. That was his third start back from a two-week stretch for the original injury. Greene is 4-3 in 11 starts this season, with a 2.72 ERA and 11 strikeouts per nine innings. Meanwhile, Carson Spiers, who has been on the IL since April with a right shoulder impingement, is ready to start his minor-league rehab assignment and is scheduled to pitch as many as four innings Tuesday for Louisville. Spiers made two starts and a four-inning relief appearance in April before landing on the injured list. Thomas Partey: Ex-Arsenal player charged with rape to appear in court today
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is due to appear in court today, charged with raping two women. The 32-year-old, who was charged four days after leaving the north London club when his contract expired back in June, faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, the Crown Prosecution Service has said. The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire has previously said the Ghanaian "denies all the charges against him" - and looks forward to the chance to "finally clear his name". Read more from Sky News:Permission granted for UK rocket launch Partey joined Arsenal from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2020 and became a regular for manager Mikel Arteta, who last month said he was "100% sure" the club followed the correct protocols. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: "The player's contract ended on 30 June. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case." Partey made 35 appearances for the Gunners last season, scoring four goals. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Cardinals make concerning Nolan Arenado injury roster move
The post Cardinals make concerning Nolan Arenado injury roster move appeared first on ClutchPoints. The St Louis Cardinals sold off a few pieces ahead of the MLB trade deadline, including closer Ryan Helsley. But they are still 5.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot with an outside shot of making the postseason. The Cardinals made an injury move on Friday involving Nolan Arenado that could set them back even further. 'The St. Louis Cardinals will place third baseman Nolan Arenado on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder injury before Friday's game against the San Diego Padres, team sources told The Athletic,' Katie Woo wrote. 'Arenado's shoulder issues date to early July. He missed a handful of games trying to avoid the IL and hoped resting over the All-Star break would alleviate the discomfort.' Arenado has struggled offensively since the All-Star Break, leading to the Cardinals selling at the deadline. He has a .159 batting average and .417 OPS in 12 games since the break. The Redbirds are just 3-9 in those games, knocking them further back in the playoff race. The Cardinals were actively shopping Arenado in the offseason, trying to work around his no-trade clause. They reportedly agreed to a deal with the Houston Astros, which he declined. He is under contract through 2027, with the no-trade clause expiring before the final season. The Cardinals do not have a timetable for Arenado's return, but he is out for at least the next ten days. Those games come against the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs. A continued losing streak could knock the Cardinals completely out of the race, and not having Arenado won't help matters. Woo later reported that Nolan Gorman has been activated off the injured list as the corresponding move. They also called up Ryan Fernandez, Roddery Muñoz, and Andre Granillo to replace the traded players. The Cardinals and Padres start a three-game series on Friday night.
