PM Modi's praise for Bhopal's sanitation efforts boosted morale: CM Yadav

Business Standard20 hours ago
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating Bhopal's sanitation measures during his monthly Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast and said the praise has upped the state's morale.
In the recently released Swachh Survekshan 2024', Bhopal was ranked the second-cleanest city in India, with MP's financial capital Indore bagging the top position for the eighth consecutive time.
The PM's words have boosted the state's morale, said Yadav, who listened to Mann Ki Baat at an event in the city's Gulmohar Colony in Ward No. 50. He also planted a banyan sapling on the occasion.
Prime Minister Modi ji inspires the power of every citizen for nation-building, Yadav said.
Addressing the gathering, the CM said Modi's radio programme has become an effective platform for direct communication with the people of the country.
It brings inspiring stories from across India that play a key role in nation-building, he added.
Earlier, PM Modi lauded Sakaratmak Soch', a Bhopal-based organisation comprising 200 women, which works in the field of sanitation.
They don't just clean, they also change mindsets. Cleaning 17 parks in the city together, distributing cloth bags, every step of theirs is a message. Owing to such efforts, Bhopal has now come a long way in the Swachh Survey, Modi said in Mann Ki Baat.
Yadav said Bhopal residents deserve congratulations for the city's stellar performance in the cleanliness rankings.
During his address, PM Modi also spoke about 12 Maratha forts listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and said there are such amazing forts in other parts of the country too, which have faced attacks, faced the vagaries of weather, but never let their self-respect bow down.
He said that MP's Bundelkhand region also is home to several forts that were cultural symbols.
... Gwalior, Jhansi, Datia, Ajaygarh, Garhkundar and Chanderi. These forts are not just bricks and stones; they are symbols of our heritage. Sanskar and self-respect still peep from the high walls of these forts, said Modi.
The PM also urged citizens to visit these forts, know their history, feel proud.

Nayara Energy moves Delhi HC against Microsoft for suspending key services

Indian oil refining and marketing company, Nayara Energy, which is backed by Russian investment, has taken legal action against Microsoft. The company said the US-based tech firm had abruptly and unilaterally suspended essential services without any prior warning. "Microsoft is currently restricting Nayara Energy's access to its own data, proprietary tools, and products --despite these being acquired under fully paid-up licences," stated Nayara. Petition filed in Delhi HC The company has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. It is seeking an interim injunction and immediate restoration of services to protect its rights and ensure continued access to important digital systems. According to Nayara, Microsoft did not discuss or notify the company before cutting off services. "This action has been taken unilaterally, without prior notice, consultation or recourse, and under the guise of compliance," the statement added. Sanctions lead to disruptions Nayara, which purchases large volumes of Russian oil, was recently sanctioned by the European Union. The company is mostly owned by Russian entities, including oil giant Rosneft. Although the sanctions are from the EU, Nayara claims that Microsoft -- a US-based firm -- is not legally required to enforce them under American or Indian law. Despite this, sources said Microsoft suspended Nayara's services last Tuesday. Since then, email accounts and Teams access for Nayara employees have been unavailable. Microsoft has not commented on the matter. Following the sanctions, at least two ships avoided loading refined products from Nayara's Vadinar facility. One crude tanker carrying Russian Urals was also diverted. In addition, Nayara's CEO resigned and was replaced by Sergey Denisov. Key role in India's energy sector Nayara Energy highlighted its important role in India's fuel economy. The company contributes around 8 per cent of the country's refining capacity and 7 per cent of its petrol pump network. It is also developing about 8 per cent of India's polypropylene capacity. While facing these challenges, Nayara said it remains committed to maintaining uninterrupted supply across India. Focus on domestic market and growth Operating under the motto 'In India, for India', Nayara mainly serves the domestic market through retail outlets, institutional sales, and partnerships with other oil marketing companies. The company is also investing in petrochemicals and clean energy, generating thousands of jobs. Nayara added that it complies fully with Indian regulations and continues to work closely with Indian authorities to maintain transparency and accountability.

Cash-for-query case: Trouble mounts for TMC's Mohua Moitra; CBI files chargesheet with Lokpal

TMC leader Mahua Moitra (File photo/PTI) NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a chargesheet with the Lokpal in connection with the alleged 'cash-for-query' scam involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra . In response to directives from the anti-corruption ombudsman, the CBI in March last year filed an FIR against Mahua Moitra. The Lokpal had issued instructions to the CBI after reviewing the findings of the agency's preliminary inquiry into allegations raised by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey against Mahua. The Lokpal had directed the CBI to investigate comprehensively all facets of the complaints against her within six months. Dubey has accused Mahua of soliciting cash and gifts from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising questions in the Lok Sabha to criticise industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi , among others. Mahua has vehemently denied these allegations. The Lokpal, however, after careful consideration, deemed the allegations against Mahua as grave and supported by substantial evidence. It emphasised the need for a thorough investigation, considering Mahua's former position and status. The Lokpal bench, comprising Justice Abhilasha Kumari and members Archana Ramasundaram and Mahender Singh, stressed the importance of probity in public office and the detrimental effects of corruption on democratic functioning. Consequently, the Lokpal directed the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all allegations and submit a report within six months. The filing of the chargesheet against Mahua marks a significant development in the ongoing controversy surrounding the TMC MP.
