Over €74k raised for mum and son who suffered life-changing injuries in crash
More than €74,000 has been raised to help a mother and her three children who were injured in a road traffic accident in Sligo last month.
Noreen Ruddy and her son Matthew are receiving treatment for life-changing injuries and face up to 18 months of rehabilitation. Two of her daughters, Kaitlyn and Eva were also involved in the crash.
Katilyn is recovering from multiple surgeries in the Mater Hospital, while Eva has returned home to continue her recovery.
The crash occurred when their car collided with another in Ballysadare, Co Sligo at around 2.30 pm on Monday April 21st.
The driver of the second car, a woman in her 50s, was taken to the hospital for assessment.
Loved ones have set up an iDonate fundraising page to help raise money to support the family following the devastating collision.
'On April 21st, Noreen Ruddy and her three children—Kaitlyn, Matthew, and Eva—were involved in a devastating road traffic accident in Sligo,' the page reads.
'All four were hospitalised with serious injuries.
'The injuries sustained by Noreen and Matthew are life-changing, and both face a long road ahead with at least 12-18 months of rehabilitation.
'Their lives—and those of their loved ones—have been turned upside down,' it continues.
'This fundraiser has been set up to help support the family through the many challenges ahead—emotionally, physically, and financially.
'Any support you can offer, big or small, will make a real difference in their journey to recovery.'
Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
'Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a two-car collision in Ballysadare, County Sligo, which occurred on Monday, 21st April 2025,' a spokesperson said.
'Shortly before 2:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the N59 at Ballysadare.
'The occupants of one vehicle—two adult females, aged in their 40s and 20s, along with a 9-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl— were transported by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.

Teenager killed after horror collision named locally
A teenager who died following a collision between a car and a truck in Co Cork has been named locally as Dovydas Palkis. The fatal collision happened on the N71 between Ballinhassig and Innishannon in west Cork at around 7.15am on Monday, July 21. The driver of the car, Dovydas Palkis, 19, from Gortnaclohy Heights in Skibbereen, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them. A spokesperson said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7am and 7.30am this morning are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí." Gardai hunt youths who set up elaborate hoax in cruel roadside stunt
Gardaí in Co Donegal are seeking three young men who placed used bags stuffed with ketchup that resembled a body to frighten a motorist. The incident, which happened in the village of Milford on Sunday night last, left a terrified motorist thinking they had hit a real person. The shocking incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday on the R245 at The Pans, Cranford at around 12:30am. The motorist jumped out of their car and made a shocking discovery. After getting out of the car the driver found the body shaped object was dressed in dark clothing that had been stuffed with bags and covered in ketchup. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were left shaken following the bizarre incident. Damage was also caused to the car as a result of the collision.
