Jennifer Lopez tears up at 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' Sundance premiere: 'It's a big deal'
The "Jenny From the Block" singer, 55, teared up at Sundance Film Festival on Sunday as her new movie musical "Kiss of the Spider Woman" received a standing ovation, according to videos shared by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Lopez explained to the crowd that she has always wanted to star in a musical film.
"I've been waiting for this moment my whole life," she said. "When you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV, it would come on once a year: 'West Side Story' on Thanksgiving."
The "Marry Me" star got emotional as she continued, "I was just mesmerized, and I was like, 'That's what I want to do.' That was always my goal, and this is the first time I actually got to do it. So it's a big deal."

Lopez also thanked the film's director, Bill Condon, saying he "made my dream come true."
Jennifer Lopezslays on Toronto red carpet, brings 'sass' to 'Unstoppable' role
Lopez plays film star Ingrid Luna in "Kiss of the Spider Woman," an adaptation of the stage musical about prisoners in Argentina. The musical was in turn based on the 1976 novel. William Hurt won the Oscar for best actor for his performance in a 1985 film adaptation, which was also nominated for best picture.
Early reviews out of Sundance have heaped praise on Lopez, with The Hollywood Reporter saying it's "one of the best roles of her career" and Deadline writing that it's the role she was born to play.
Jennifer Lopezsays 'Hustlers' Oscars snub 'was a sting,' but her 'life is about more than awards'
When Variety asked Lopez about the Oscar buzz, she said she doesn't "even want to begin the conversation" but that "of course, I would love it to get the recognition that I believe that it deserves."
In 2019, Lopez received a significant amount of Oscar buzz for her role in "Hustlers," which earned her nominations at the Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards, and Critics' Choice Awards. But she was ultimately not nominated at the Oscars, which critics considered one of that year's most shocking snubs.
In an interview with Allure in 2021, Lopez said "it was a sting" not to earn the Oscar nod.
"I was like, 'Okay, when you're supposedly in everybody else's mind supposed to be nominated and you're not, what does that mean? Is it really real?'" she said. "'Are the other ones real and this one isn't?' It came to a point where I was like, 'This is not why I do this. I don't do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.'"
Lopez also opened up about the Oscar snub in her 2022 documentary "Halftime."
"The truth is, I really started to think I was going to get nominated," she said in the film. "I got my hopes up, because so many people were telling me I would be, and then it didn't happen."

Call it his next chapter. Jake Gyllenhaal, the Oscar-nominated actor who keeps surprising audiences with his range and depth of characters, has just sold his Tribeca home in a former book-binding factory for $14 million, according to city records. The off-market sale at 443 Greenwich St. was first reported by the Real Deal. Gyllenhaal recently portrayed Iago in a buzzy and extra-expensive 'Othello' on Broadway with Denzel Washington that priced out many theater lovers. 4 Jake Gyllenhaal is one of many A-listers who have called 443 Greenwich home. WireImage 4 The condo was crafted from a former book-binding factory — and quickly became home to celebs. Jack Berman The former factory, built in 1882, has been home over the years to a galaxy of stars. Past and present residents include Jennifer Lawrence, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Harry Styles, Mike Myers and Meg Ryan. Renters in the building have included The Weeknd and his then-girlfriend, Bella Hadid. The edifice is presently home to Microsoft heiress Jennifer Gates, daughter of the billionaire Bill Gates and his ex-wife, Melinda Gates, as Gimme Shelter exclusively reported. Gates bought the penthouse for $51 million from Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton in 2023. Gyllenhaal's 2,868-square-foot, fifth-floor home opens with a large entry foyer and features three bedrooms, three baths and a chef's kitchen. He bought the unit for $8.6 million in 2017. HayesDavidson 4 The amenities on offer resemble those of a luxury resort. HayesDavidson The building's 53 units feature entry foyers with custom metal wall panels and 8-inch-wide white oak floors. Original details include Carolina yellow pine beams paired with mahogany windows, and antique bronze doors. The sale comes as the building's condo board is suing the developer, Nate Berman's Metro Loft and the architect, CetraRuddy, for $376 million, alleging breach of contract, alleged construction defects and code violations. Metro Loft and CetraRuddy have denied the allegations made in court filings. The case, filed in 2021, is ongoing.

5 Things to Know About Diddy's Ex Gina Huynh: From Abuse Allegations to Her Letter of Support
Sean 'Diddy' Combs recently received help from an unexpected source — his ex-girlfriend Gina Huynh. On August 3, Variety reported Virginia 'Gina' Huynh, 33, wrote a letter to the judge presiding over his federal case in support of his latest bail request, saying she believes her ex-boyfriend has changed. The letter comes years after Huynh levied her own accusations of abuse against Diddy and weeks after she dropped out of testifying against him in the trial. 'I am writing because I do not view Mr. Combs as a danger to me or to the community,' she wrote. 'This is his first criminal case. Throughout the investigation and proceedings he has been cooperative, respectful and compliant. He has substantial ties to his family and community, including children who depend on him for emotional and financial support. Granting him bond would allow him to continue caring for his family and fulfilling his responsibilities while still subject to the Court's supervision.' Breaking Down All of the Allegations Against Diddy: Cassie's Assault Lawsuit and More She added that the pair's relationship 'was not always perfect' but that 'he was willing to acknowledge his mistakes and make better decisions in the future.' Diddy was arrested in September 2024 and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied all allegations against him. On July 2, a jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation but acquitted him of the other charges. He has been incarcerated at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest and will remain there until his October 3 sentencing unless Judge Arun Subramanian rules in favor of his latest bail request. Keep scrolling for five things to know about Huynh: Her Allegations Against Diddy Were Disturbing Huynh first spoke about abuse she allegedly suffered at Diddy's hands in 2019 when she told YouTuber Tasha K he 'was mentally, emotionally and physically abusing me.' 'He would always compare me to [ex-girlfriend] Cassie [Ventura] and tell me that I'm the bad one, she's a good one,' she claimed. 'He took one of my heels and tried to throw it at me. He, like, mushed my face, like, really hard and made my nose bleed.' Huynh went on to claim that Diddy allegedly offered her $50,000 to have an abortion after she got pregnant in 2014. She further alleged that Diddy once 'stomped on my stomach, like, really hard,' adding, 'I couldn't breathe, but he kept hitting me. I was, like, pleading to him, 'Can you just stop? I can't breathe.'' She Was Supposed to Testify at Diddy's Trial Huynh was initially meant to testify against Diddy during his sex trafficking trial, which began in May. Before she publicly identified herself, she was referred to as 'Victim-3' in court documents. Prosecutors later told the court they had lost touch with her attorney and she 'may not show up' for the trial. She's an Instagram Influencer Huynh boasts nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram, where she often shares travel and fashion-themed photos. She Also Dated Floyd Mayweather and Chris Brown Diddy isn't Huynh's only famous ex — she's also been connected to boxer Mayweather and rapper Brown. Brown and Huynh were reportedly spotted holding hands in October 2020, though the couple never made things official, and it's unclear when they parted ways. Huynh and Mayweather were also linked during a break in her relationship with Diddy. She's 1 Reason Cassie Broke Up With Diddy Huynh and Diddy allegedly began their relationship in 2014. At that time, the rapper was also in a relationship with Ventura, whom he dated off and on from 2007 to 2018. Ventura later said seeing a photo of Diddy and Huynh contributed to her decision to end things. 'I promised myself I wouldn't be with you anymore if you did that to me again,' Ventura wrote to Diddy in one message that was shared during the trial. She also told Diddy he 'lied' to her and that Huynh 'never went away.' Huynh reportedly 'leaked' a video of herself and Diddy soon after he and Ventura parted ways, and the pair reconnected in 2021 during a trip to Las Vegas. She's a Mom Huynh is the mother of daughter JayVianna. It's unclear who her daughter's father is or when she was born. Huynh shared a series of photos of herself and JayVianna in matching pink gowns on Instagram in August 2020 and captured the snaps, 'You're beautiful like diamonds in the sky 💖.' In May 2022, Huynh shared a video of herself via Instagram while in the audience at the Billboard Music Awards and captioned it, 'Baby Daddy is hosting Billboards,' a reference to Diddy's role during that year's broadcast. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture is using an argument scene from the 2019 film Marriage Story to scare wolves away from farms along the West Coast. The scene, in which an estranged couple played by Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver loudly and intensely vent their frustrations, is among several audio clips being used by the USDA to scare wolves away from livestock farms. "I need the wolves to respond and know that, 'Hey, humans are bad,'" Paul Wolf, a USDA district supervisor in Oregon, told the Wall Street Journal. The drones being used to blast the audio have also been playing songs including AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" and Five Finger Death Punch's "Blue on Black," as well as sound effects like fireworks and gunshots. Marriage Story, directed by Noah Baumbach, was nominated for six Oscars at the 2020 Academy Awards. Laura Dern, who played Johansson's character's lawyer, went home with the award for Best Supporting Actress.
