Husband and wife killed while hiking with two daughters in Arkansas as cops hunt for killer

Daily Mail5 days ago
A husband and wife were killed while hiking with their two young daughters at an Arkansas state park over the weekend - sparking a frantic search for the murderer.
Clinton, 43, and Cristen Brink, 41, were found dead at around 2.40pm on Saturday on a 'remote and rural' trail at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas.
State Police say 'the terrain is rugged, vegetation is thick and there is no cellphone service.'
Authorities have since ruled that their deaths constituted a double homicide, and their bodies will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where their cause and manner of death will be determined.
The couple's two daughters with whom they were hiking, ages seven and nine, were uninjured and are now safe with family members.
It is unclear why the couple may have been attacked, as they had recently moved to the state, according to police. Their public Facebook profiles show they had previously lived in Montana.
'We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Devil's Den State Park,' Shea Lewis, the Secretary of Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism said in a statement.
'Our hearts are with the victims' loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' she continued, noting that 'the safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority and we are working closely with the Arkansas State Police and various law enforcement officials as the investigation continues.'
Police also said they are pursuing all leads and are working with state and federal authorities to track down the suspect. They have also cordoned off the trail as the investigation continues, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
'We are using all available resources to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice,' Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar told 5 News Online.
The suspect has been described as a white male with a medium build, wearing a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark-colored baseball cap, sunglasses and fingerless gloves.
He was also carrying a black backpack with him at the time.
Following the murders, the man was seen driving toward a park exit in a black four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with duct or electrical tape covering the license plate.
It is believed he then traveled on State Route 170 or 220.
As police continue to try to track down the suspect, they are now asking anyone who was at the state park on Saturday to check any photos and videos they took for images of the suspect.
Those photos should then be sent directly to the Arkansas State Police and should not be posted to social media, which authorities said could hinder the investigation.
In the meantime, the area of the park where the murders occurred remains closed off and secured by law enforcement as of Sunday. The park's website noted that 'all trails are closed until further notice.'
Police have cordoned off the section of the state park as the investigation continues
'We are heartbroken by today's horrific news from Devil's Den State Park and are in close contact with State Police and the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism as they work to apprehend the suspect,' Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.
'We are praying for the family and friends of the victims and know that law enforcement will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.'

World 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson arrested on alleged domestic violence charge

Reigning 100m world champion Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested last week for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson was charged on Sunday with fourth degree domestic violence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press (AP). On Thursday, she ran in the opening round the women's 100m at US track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon, before withdrawing from the semi-finals. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion. 'USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,' USA Track and Field said in a statement. Richardson's agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment by AP. The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman. The report said Richardson was detained on Sunday 27 July and released the following day. In the police report, the officer said: 'I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim.' Richardson won the 100m at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and took silver at the Paris Games last summer. She also helped the 4x100m relay team to an Olympic gold.

Kim Zolciak admits she used daughter's modeling earnings to pay bills out of desperation

Kim Zolciak admitted to stealing her daughter Ariana Biermann's money on Thursday — and the model watched her mom's confession from the front row of a live audience. The 47-year-old appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she told host Andy Cohen that she spent all of her daughter's modeling income from her teen years - but she insisted that she only used it to pay bills out of desperation amid her home foreclosure drama and her ugly divorce from her estranged husband Kroy Biermann, 39. Elsewhere in the interview, the former Real Housewives Of Atlanta star revealed that she had moved on with a new man after splitting from the ex-NFL player, though she kept his identity a secret. While speaking of turning to her children for financial supporting, Kim claimed that 'the rug was pulled out from the Zolciaks.' She said: 'I was left holding the bag for the family, and yeah. . . ' Zolciak also confirmed that it wasn't just 23-year-old Ariana's money that went to paying for necessities, as her daughter Brielle, 28, also pitched in money 'for the bills and stuff,' though it sounded as if she at least had the option to consent to giving up her money. Ariana previously claimed on her reality series Next Gen NYC that her mother and stepfather didn't tell her that they had used all of the money she had earned from modeling gigs and influencer jobs. However, Zolciak appeared to have worked things out with her daughter, as Ariana didn't look overly angry with her mother during the segment, and she beamed widely when Zolciak and Cohen talked about more upbeat topics. The reality TV star added that she had already repaid Ariana's money that had gone toward bills, and she suggested that she had 'spreadsheets' of what her daughter had made over the years to balance further down the road. But Cohen didn't buy that Zolciak had done full due diligence on her debts to her second-oldest daughter. He quipped: 'I don't imagine you have any spreadsheets.' Zolciak admitted: 'I don't have — I don't even know how to do it!' She was more animated during her appearance when the reality star admitted she was seeing a new man after splitting from Biermann. Kim said: 'He's just great. You know, I sat in the house and just worked and tried to take care of everything for 20 months, and then I finally met somebody great.' She didn't reveal her new man's identity, but she did say that a mutual friend had introduced them. Kim also indicated that things were tense with her estranged husband, though the pressure seemed to have gone down a bit after she had moved out of their mansion outside of Atlanta into her own home. She said: 'I would definitely prefer to communicate more regarding the children, but it's just not there right now.' The exes share four minor children: Kroy 'KJ' Jr., 14; Kash, 12; and fraternal twins Kane and Kaia, 11. Kim's adult daughters, Brielle and Ariana, both come from previous relationships.

Ghislaine Maxwell moved to prison camp, Trump says no plea for pardon

Ghislaine Maxwell has been transferred from a Florida prison to a lower-security facility in Texas to continue serving her 20-year sentence for helping the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls, the US Bureau of Prisons said on Friday. Maxwell's move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, comes a week after she met with Deputy US attorney general Todd Blanche, who said he wanted to speak with her about anyone else who may have been involved in Epstein's crimes. Advertisement Maxwell's lawyer, David Markus, confirmed she was moved but said he had no other comment. Spokespeople for the US Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment. I know nothing about the case. Asked during a White House interview with Newsmax on Friday about the possibility of pardoning Maxwell, president Donald Trump said: "I'm allowed to do it, but nobody's asked me to do it." He added:"I know nothing about the case." Asked about what was discussed between Maxwell and the deputy attorney general last week, Mr Trump said he believed Mr Blanche "just wants to make sure that innocent people aren't hurt" should documents in the Epstein probe be released. The BOP classifies prison camps such as Bryan as minimum-security institutions, the lowest of five security levels in the federal system. Advertisement Such facilities have limited or no perimetere fencing. Low-security facilities such as FCI Tallahassee have double-fenced perimeters and higher staff-to-inmate ratios than prison camps, according to the bureau. Asked why Maxwell was transferred, BOP spokesperson Donald Murphy said he could not comment on the specifics of any incarcerated individual's prison assignment, but that the BOP determines where inmates are sent based on such factors as "the level of security and supervision the inmate requires." Mr Blanche's meeting with Maxwell came as Mr Trump faces pressure from both his base of conservative supporters and congressional Democrats to release more information from the Justice Department's investigations of Maxwell and Epstein. Transcripts The department is seeking court approval to release transcripts of law enforcement officers' testimony before the grand juries that indicted Maxwell and Epstein. Such transcripts are usually kept secret. Two federal judges in Manhattan are weighing the government's requests. Advertisement Lawyers for Maxwell, Epstein, and their alleged victims are due to share their positions on the potential unsealing with the judges in filings on Tuesday. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He had pleaded not guilty. Neither Mr Markus nor Mr Blanche has provided detailed accounts of what they discussed. Mr Markus has said Maxwell would welcome relief from Mr Trump. Maxwell was found guilty at a 2021 trial of recruiting and grooming girls for Epstein to abuse. She had pleaded not guilty and is asking the US Supreme Court to overturn her conviction.
