Drake-UMG Court Hearing Dives Into Context And Success Of Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us'
UMG is looking to get the case dismissed, which prompted the hearing between the Toronto rapper's legal team and the label's representatives on Monday (June 30). Drizzy's side called the content slanderous and claims the massive promotional efforts, including the Super Bowl, were intentionally done to lower his value and assassinate his character. UMG argues that the song was hyperbolic, much like many diss songs throughout Hip-Hop history.
At one point in the hearing, they were discussing the 'Certified pedophile' line. UMG's lawyer, Rollin Ransom, reduced it to a play on the 6 God's 2021 album title Certified Lover Boy, and Judge Jeannette Vargas asked if the average listener would understand the wordplay or simply see it as an accusation. UMG's side admitted that the context had to do with rumors of the multi-time Grammy winner having inappropriate relationships with underage women.
Michael Gottlieb, Drake's lawyer, brought up how UMG made the record 'more culturally ubiquitous than any other,' citing its 9 billion streams and the fact that it has played at bar mitzvahs. Judge Vargas called any bar mitzvah that would play the song 'interesting,' causing people in the courtroom to laugh. Gottlieb also mentioned how the 'Not Like Us' cover art was an image of the father of one's home with sex offender location tags. Judge Vargas countered by bringing up how Drake suggested that Lamar's kids were not his.
As for botting, Gottlieb alleged that 10% of the streams for 'Not Like Us' are false, citing a popular podcaster who accused them of using bots. He also mentioned their other alleged efforts to increase the visibility of the song, such as whitelisting, tampered search results, and payola. Judge Vargas was curious about how botting can be damaging, to which Gottlieb said that every other artist on the platform is 'injured' in the form of lower compensation.
A spokesperson for Drake shared the following statement with VIBE following the hearing. 'UMG is desperate to see this case not move forward because the company can't hide its misconduct in a courtroom the way it does in the boardroom,' they wrote. 'Soon, in addition to facing concerned regulators and investors, the leadership of music's most powerful label will have to answer for the damage it has caused to every artist that has been silenced, exploited, endangered or discarded.'
K. Dot's 'Not Like Us' remained on the Hot 100 for over a full year, won him five GRAMMYs at this year's show, and was performed at the Super Bowl. In one of the most viral moments, he looked directly into the camera and grinned when rapping the 'Say Drake, I hear you like 'em young' line.

Terry Bradshaw, Aaron Rodgers Do Not Agree Politically
Terry Bradshaw, Aaron Rodgers Do Not Agree Politically originally appeared on The Spun. Terry Bradshaw and Aaron Rodgers have some drama brewing heading into the 2025 season. Bradshaw, a four-time Super Bowl champion, made it clear that he wasn't a big fan of Rodgers, who signed with his Pittsburgh Steelers. Bradshaw said earlier this year that he wished Rodgers would just stay in California and "chew" on some bark. "That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said of Pittsburgh's interest in Rodgers on 103.7 The Buzz back in May. "What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? "That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there." Rodgers, meanwhile, responded to Bradshaw at training camp over the weekend. His response was pretty classy. "I've known Terry for a long time, being a part of FOX," Rodgers said, speaking to NFL Network's Kyle Brandt. "Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He's had a legendary career in the media. "But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me. So he's got an idea of what he thinks about me based on what I've done, the documentary, what I've said, darkness retreat, whatever the hell you want to talk about." While Rodgers and Bradshaw might have a lot in common on the football field, they've said pretty different things politically over the years. Bradshaw announced that he left the Republican Party, choosing to be an independent. He criticized President Trump, too. 'I've been a Republican, but now I'm a registered independent. I don't want to alienate anyone, and the minute you say, 'I'm a Democrat' or 'I'm Republican,' you're kicking off the other side. I want the best person [in the White House], and I'll pick the one who's most like the way I feel,' he announced. Bradshaw took issue with how President Trump criticized NFL players for kneeling for the anthem. "This is America. If our country stands for anything, folks, it's freedom. People died for that freedom. I'm not sure if our President understands those rights—that every American has the right to speak out and to protest. Believe me, these athletes do love this great country of ours," Bradshaw stated. He added: "Personally, I think our President should concentrate on North Korea and healthcare rather than ripping into athletes and the NFL." Rodgers, meanwhile, has shown his support for President Trump over the years, even posting a photo of himself shaking hands with POTUS on social media. He said it was "priceless." Rodgers has said that he would like to get to know Bradshaw, so hopefully that'll happen before the 2025 NFL season. But the duo might have some disagreements in the world of politics. Terry Bradshaw, Aaron Rodgers Do Not Agree Politically first appeared on The Spun on Jul 27, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 27, 2025, where it first appeared.

Drake angers fans after cancelling Manchester Co-op Live performance due to ‘travel issues'
Drake has left fans 'fuming' after he cancelled his concert in Manchester on Monday due to 'travel logistics'. According to a statement issued by the venue Co-op Live, the show planned for 28 July had been rescheduled for 5 August 'due to unforeseen ferry schedule and travel logistics'. The Canadian musician, who performed two gigs in the city on Friday and Saturday as part of a global tour, was due on stage again for a third night on 28 July, and a final night on 4 August. The statement added: 'The good news is that Drake will now perform in Manchester on Tuesday, August 5th, and it's set to be an unforgettable night.' Fans were left confused by the statement, given that the rapper was already in the UK, and presumably still thought to be in Manchester, since he performed in the city on Friday and Saturday. One fan wrote on X/Twitter: 'Extended my unpaid leave in Dubai to stay in Manchester so I could see Drake on 28th July just for him to cancel last minute and say he's got travel problems… my brother you are in the city wtfym!' Another person said they felt travel logistics was a 'pathetic excuse'. A third wondered: 'How is Drake using 'logistics' as an excuse to reschedule tomorrow nights show in Manchester when he's already here?' 'Cheers Drake, cancelling Manchester show the day before, and rescheduling for the day I go on holiday,' added another fan. The Independent has contacted Drake's representatives for comment. Drake released his new single with UK rapper Central Cee – called 'Which One' – last Thursday during an episode of his Iceman livestream, which was filmed at various locations around the city, including at Manchester Piccadilly railway station and Victoria Baths. The rapper has been performing across the UK this summer as part of his first tour in Europe in six years alongside musician PARTYNEXTDOOR, with whom he recently released a joint album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
