Drake Reacts To 'What Did I Miss?' Debuting At No. 2 On The Billboard Hot 100
Drake should be on a high right now after a history-making, three-day headlining set at Wireless Festival in London this past weekend. However, the 38-year-old rapper saw where his latest single 'What Did I Miss?' debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, and he isn't satisfied. The track, initially projected to fall on the lower end of the top 10, landed at No. 2 in this week's chart. It marked the 6 God's second No. 2 of 2025, following the slow-rising hit 'Nokia.' While that is celebratory for many artists, it continues the Toronto superstar's streak of almost two years without a No. 1 since 'First Person Shooter' with J. Cole reached the mountaintop in October 2023. Bigger than that, it makes his pursuit of breaking his tie with Michael Jackson still a factor. Drizzy posted this week's chart on his Instagram story with several straight-faced emojis before calling out the suppression he has allegedly endured since last year's beef with Kendrick Lamar, which prompted his current defamation and botting lawsuit against Universal Music Group. 'Suppressor on the 1 spot,' he wrote with a laughing emoji, referring to Alex Warren's 'Ordinary' maintaining the top spot for six weeks. 'I'm taking that soon don't worry one song or another Rule changes and all.' This is an unusual experience for the multi-time Grammy winner; he is currently rolling out his forthcoming album ICEMAN, and he is used to having a single be No. 1 going into an album release or hitting No. 1 after an LP comes out. $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, his joint album with PARTYNEXTDOOR from this past February, was his first project since 2017's More Life that did not have either of those things happen, though he got close with 'Nokia.' Nonetheless, momentum is still on his side. At Wireless Festival, the attendees treated his three sets like they were homecoming performances. He also gifted fans with surprise appearances by Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, Mario, Bryson Tiller, Giveon, Bobby Valentino, Latto, Sexyy Red, 21 Savage, and more. He teased a new song with Central Cee, stating that he would 'get to that on Friday.' The record fell within his Afrobeats, dance vibe, which is fitting for the summer. If this record goes No. 1, not only would he break the tie with MJ, but it would also be Cench's first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1. Time will tell when the record drops, but check out a preview below. Everything We Know About Drake's ‘Iceman' Album
Like many years of the past, Drake is looking to make the summer his once again. The 6 God returned on July 4 with the cinematic livestream premiere of his introspective 'What Did I Miss' single, which essentially served as the kick-off to his highly anticipated Iceman album. 'It's love for my brothers and death to a traitor, let's go,' he raps. 'What Did I Miss' hit streaming services on July 5 and topped Spotify's Daily Top Songs USA chart for two consecutive days (July 5-6). Even nearly two decades in and after all of the accolades, it feels like another pivotal point in Drake's career once again with his first solo LP on the horizon since clashing with Lamar in 2024. He'll look to make another statement setting off the summer when he headlines Wireless Fest 2025 in the U.K. for all three nights this weekend. The Friday night (July 4) livestream that accompanied 'What Did I Miss' found Drake also driving through Toronto while tailing the Iceman Toronto-based ice company truck. He scolded a hater and previewed another unreleased track that's tentatively titled 'Supermax.' When Iceman does inevitably arrive, Drake will more than likely break a tie with Jay-Z and Taylor Swift for the most Billboard 200 No. 1 albums of all time with his 15th chart-topper. While there isn't plenty of information out there regarding Iceman (look for more possible streams on the way), here's everything we know so far about Drake's ninth solo studio album. Drake hasn't put a firm release date on Iceman outside of teasing that it's 'coming soon' during Friday night's live-stream and writing 'Iceman 2025″ while leaving an autograph. It doesn't appear as if the project will arrive in time for Drizzy's three nights of headlining at Wireless Festival 2025 this weekend. However, Drake will be staying in the U.K. as he kicks off his $ome $pecial $hows 4 U European tour run with PARTYNEXTDOOR on July 20. There's a break for the first week of August, which is when Drake has traditionally hosted OVO Fest over the years, so that's another possible key date to keep an eye on. If Iceman still hasn't been defrosted by the end of Drake's tour with PND, all eyes will go toward October. After all, he is October's Very Own. After releasing $ome $exy $ongs 4 U in February, which generated long-lasting hits like 'Nokia' and 'Somebody Loves Me,' there probably isn't too much urgency from Drake's side. Drake has been dropping subtle hints about Iceman for months. He's posted photos to IG of his icy jewelry, NBA legend George Gervin, UFC fighter Chuck Liddell, who are both nicknamed the Iceman, and Canada's snowy winters. Of course, Iceman is a Marvel superhero and a founding member of the X-Men. Comic book writer Mike Carey described the Iceman as 'devastatingly honest. He is very up-front with his emotions and his thoughts all the time.' Perhaps this is another alter-ego in the Drake matrix. Drizzy aligned with the Toronto commercial ice packaging company of the same name, which saw him tailing an Iceman promo truck while driving throughout the 6 on Friday night, and he donned Iceman merchandise during the live-stream at the company's warehouse. 'During the actual live-stream, it was pretty crazy… People from all over North America started calling us,' Iceman's Jake Silva told CP24. 'My father's phone started blowing up from a lot of our customers.' 'What Did I Miss' arrived as part of Friday's livestream and then landed on streaming services hours later at midnight on Saturday (July 5). The menacing tune finds Drake examining themes of betrayal while also still passive-aggressively flexing on the competition. The track is littered with subliminals. Some believe there's jabs at Rick Ross and The Weeknd. At one point, he appears to take a shot at either NBA star LeBron James or DeMar DeRozan, who both showed support for Kendrick Lamar when making appearances at K. Dot's Pop Out show. 'I saw bro went to Pop Out with them, but been d—k riding gang since 'Headlines,'' he raps about a friend-turned-adversary. Drizzy uses a mid-beat switch like a valve relieving pressure to change the temperature of 'What Did I Miss.' He enlists a phalanx of producers behind the boards, including frequent collaborators Tay Keith and OZ along with FNZ, DJ Lewis, Patron, Elyas, GYZ, London Cyr and O Lil Angel. 'What Did I Miss' seemingly builds on the themes Drake previously employed on the Conductor Williams-produced 'Fighting Irish Freestyle,' which was quickly scrubbed from YouTube in January and never appeared on DSPs. In the midst of cruising around Toronto during the innovative live-stream, Drake gave fans an assumed preview of the album when playing an unreleased track that's tentatively titled 'Supermax.' Drizzy looks inward and vulnerably opens up about fractured relationships and keeping his focus. 'It's still heartbreak Drake, but I glued it together,' he raps. At one point, the 6 God reveals he had a conversation with TNT sideline reporter Taylor Rooks about how heavy the crown can be. 'Losin' all these friends really got to me/ I was talking to Taylor over drinks, and it was getting deep/ 'Not everyone can handle this pressure and, in thе city, you're the national treasurе,' that's what she said to me,' he ruminates. Rooks reposted the clip to her Instagram Story, seemingly confirming she's the Taylor Drake is referencing on the track. There's been speculation on social media that Drake is freeing himself from his industry ties and going at Iceman as a one-man band. With plenty of Drizzy's former collaborators turning on him during the Kendrick feud, it could make sense for Drake to attack his next album as the lone star of the show. However, if he does decide to go the feature route — it would be the first time in his solo career that he didn't — fans can possibly expect 21 Savage to make an appearance. Drake showed love to 21 for always having his back on 'Gimme a Hug,' and the Atlanta rapper reposted Drake's latest single. DJ Swamp Izzo also previewed an unreleased Playboi Carti and Drake collaboration during a tour after-party. According to DJ Akademiks, he relayed that Drake told him the track was supposed to appear on For All the Dogs, but never made the cut. We'll see if it remains shelved. As far as the production side, frequent collaborators OZ and Tay Keith were involved with 'What Did I Miss.' Conductor Williams has established a rapport with Drake and could supply some heat on the album. Of course, when it's a Drake project, you can assume his right-hand, Noah '40' Shebib, will play a significant role. Don't count out Boi-1da either. Drake's been known to make questionable choices for his album covers, but the blue Drake ice sculpture that's currently going viral on social media hasn't been verified by the 6 God himself. So don't fall for anything just yet when it comes to Iceman artwork. Drake Kicks Off The Road To ‘ICEMAN' With Livestream, New Music Video For 'What Did I Miss?'
For the second year in a row, the 4th of July played host to a momentous musical release; coincidentally, the consecutive drops have come from the two guys who had the biggest rap beef of all time last year, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The 6 God hosted a live stream where he debuted a new single accompanied by a music video, teased additional new music, and took a victory lap throughout his hometown, Toronto. On Friday afternoon (July 4), the 38-year-old rapper posted a simple graphic on Instagram that read '9 PM.' Soon, music pages began to circulate that he had a new single coming out titled 'What Did I Miss?' A few minutes before it was time to hear the rumored track, a live link appeared on the five-time Grammy winner's YouTube page titled 'ICEMAN EPISODE 1.' The live stream started late, but when it began, fans looked into an ice warehouse for about 20 minutes. For months, Drizzy had been posting images suggesting his next album would be titled ICEMAN, and this company happened to have that same name, so this stream felt like a confirmation. Eventually, the camera angles in the warehouse started changing and showed him walking through the warehouse into a break room. There, he watched old footage of himself performing on a television before the screen transitioned to him standing in his backyard with several guns pointed at him. The beat dropped, and per the chorus, it was clear that this was the worldwide debut of his new single 'What Did I Miss?' and its music video. He rapped and danced along to the song while walking throughout the warehouse before jumping into one of the ICEMAN trucks. The cameras followed him as he drove throughout Toronto, playing a new song rumored to be titled 'Supermax,' plus a repeat of 'What Did I Miss?' and his guest appearance on Smiley's latest single '2 Mazza.' While driving through his city, he greeted and exchanged handshakes with fans. After the live stream ended, Drake announced that 'What Did I Miss?' would be available on all streaming platforms at midnight, and, sure enough, it was. The record reflects on this past year of his career and the betrayals he's been on the wrong side of amid his beef with K. Dot. 'I don't give a f**k if you love me, I don't give a f**k if you like me/ Askin' me, 'How did it feel?' Can't say it didn't surprise me/ Last time I looked to my right, you ni**as was standing beside me/ How can some people I love hang around pu**ies who try me?' he sings in the chorus. Also, notably at the end of the live stream, he announced, 'ICEMAN Coming Soon.' There is currently no date set for the album, but given the father of one's affinity for releasing new albums in the fall, it is safe to predict that he may follow suit here. If so, that would be another year of his career where he releases multiple albums, with the PARTYNEXTDOOR-assisted collaborative album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U coming out this past February. Drake-UMG Court Hearing Dives Into Context And Success Of Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us'
In the court of public opinion, Drake is viewed as disrespecting the essence of Hip-Hop by suing Universal Music Group for defamation by publishing and promoting Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us.' In an actual court hearing this past week, the judge examined both sides' arguments, which yielded a few humorous moments. UMG is looking to get the case dismissed, which prompted the hearing between the Toronto rapper's legal team and the label's representatives on Monday (June 30). Drizzy's side called the content slanderous and claims the massive promotional efforts, including the Super Bowl, were intentionally done to lower his value and assassinate his character. UMG argues that the song was hyperbolic, much like many diss songs throughout Hip-Hop history. At one point in the hearing, they were discussing the 'Certified pedophile' line. UMG's lawyer, Rollin Ransom, reduced it to a play on the 6 God's 2021 album title Certified Lover Boy, and Judge Jeannette Vargas asked if the average listener would understand the wordplay or simply see it as an accusation. UMG's side admitted that the context had to do with rumors of the multi-time Grammy winner having inappropriate relationships with underage women. Michael Gottlieb, Drake's lawyer, brought up how UMG made the record 'more culturally ubiquitous than any other,' citing its 9 billion streams and the fact that it has played at bar mitzvahs. Judge Vargas called any bar mitzvah that would play the song 'interesting,' causing people in the courtroom to laugh. Gottlieb also mentioned how the 'Not Like Us' cover art was an image of the father of one's home with sex offender location tags. Judge Vargas countered by bringing up how Drake suggested that Lamar's kids were not his. As for botting, Gottlieb alleged that 10% of the streams for 'Not Like Us' are false, citing a popular podcaster who accused them of using bots. He also mentioned their other alleged efforts to increase the visibility of the song, such as whitelisting, tampered search results, and payola. Judge Vargas was curious about how botting can be damaging, to which Gottlieb said that every other artist on the platform is 'injured' in the form of lower compensation. A spokesperson for Drake shared the following statement with VIBE following the hearing. 'UMG is desperate to see this case not move forward because the company can't hide its misconduct in a courtroom the way it does in the boardroom,' they wrote. 'Soon, in addition to facing concerned regulators and investors, the leadership of music's most powerful label will have to answer for the damage it has caused to every artist that has been silenced, exploited, endangered or discarded.' K. Dot's 'Not Like Us' remained on the Hot 100 for over a full year, won him five GRAMMYs at this year's show, and was performed at the Super Bowl. In one of the most viral moments, he looked directly into the camera and grinned when rapping the 'Say Drake, I hear you like 'em young' line. Taylor Rooks Confirms Drake Was Talking About Their Conversation In Unreleased 'Supermax' Track, X Connects The Jack Dorsey Dots
Source: Getty Images / PhotosByBeanz / Drake / Taylor Rooks Taylor Rooks has something to say about Drake's bars, mentioning her on the unreleased track 'Supermax.' On Friday, Drake had the internet talking when he dropped several unreleased tracks during a live stream as part of the unusual rollout for his forthcoming album Iceman . In one of the tracks, 'Supermax,' Drake mentioned a woman named Taylor who blessed him with some good advice during a night out. 'I was talking to Taylor over drinks, and it was getting deep / 'Not everyone can handle this pressure and, in the city, you're the national treasure,' that's what she said to me,' Drizzy raps. Rooks seemingly confirmed that she was the Taylor that the 6 God was referencing in the song when she shared an Instagram Story post featuring a screenshot of the Iceman Episode 1 stream with the caption, 'That's what she said to me,' directly quoting the song. Immediately, fans began speculating about the sports reporter and the Hip-Hop star's 'friendship' and even started bringing up former Twitter owner Jack Dorsey's old tweets in support of Kendrick Lamar during his feud with Drake. It has long been rumored that Dorsey and Rooks dated each other, but neither has confirmed that to be the case. 'Supermax' wasn't the only song that had fans' ears perked up. His 'Iceman' lead single, 'What Did I Miss?' also had the streets talking, with many believing Drake took shots at his former friends, speculating he either had bars for LeBron James or DeMar DeRozan. We only expect more subliminal disses to be a part of this album rollout as this Iceman project is seemingly shaping up to be Drake's way of getting back at those he feels betrayed him. You can see more reactions to 'Supermax' lyrics below.
