Ubisoft threatened to sue voice actor over Assassin's Creed 4 remake hint

Metroa day ago
After teasing the rumoured Assassin's Creed 4 remake, the lead voice actor has been given a rap on the knuckles by Ubisoft.
A remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has felt like an open secret for years now. Although Ubisoft has not formally confirmed it as part of its future plans for the series, reports of its existence have made the rounds since 2023.
Another rumour, from earlier this year, claimed the remake will be out this November and statue maker Pure Arts appeared to hint at this, saying 'there is something going on with Edward', referring to Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway.
Even the character's own voice actor, Matt Ryan, contributed to the rumblings, just a couple of months ago, although he's now revealed this almost got him into serious trouble with Ubisoft.
For context, in late June, a video clip made the rounds on social media, of Ryan speaking with a fan about Black Flag at a convention. Ryan simply asked the fan if they had beaten the game, before following up with, 'Well you may have to beat it again.'
The Assassin's Creed community naturally took this as a further hint at a Black Flag remake, but when Ryan was quizzed about it during a more recent convention, he bluntly denied any knowledge about it.
When the clip from June was brought up, Ryan claimed he wasn't aware he was being recorded at the time and he's now keeping quiet because Ubisoft threatened him with legal action.

'When that happened, someone was [recording me], and I was being very free and open, but I didn't know that they actually were recording me on their phone,' explained Ryan. 'And then the company threatened to sue me. So [now] I say nothing.'
Damn so it seems like Matt Ryan (voice actor for Edward Kenway) got into deep trouble with Ubisoft for hinting at the Black Flag Remake to that other guy..He didn't realize he was being recorded😵 pic.twitter.com/2Vy8g6pMRr — The Hidden One (@TheHiddenOneAC) July 31, 2025
Ironically, this only serves as further proof that a Black Flag remake is in the works, or Ubisoft wouldn't bother to threaten him. More Trending
Voice actors are usually bound by NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) for unannounced video games. It's why Rockstar's voice actors always keep their mouths shut when pressed about appearing in a new GTA or Red Dead Redemption game.
Often, they aren't even told what game they're voicing for and are just as surprised by announcements as the rest of the public.
As for what has been claimed about the remake, it's said to be in the works at Ubisoft Singapore (the same studio behind Ubisoft's other pirate game, Skull & Bones) and will see changes made to certain gameplay aspects as well as its visuals.
While Ubisoft is keeping schtum on the remake, it did almost admit it plans to port Assassin's Creed Shadows to the Nintendo Switch 2. Although it was strangely absent from the recent Nintendo Direct, which focused solely on third party games.

Inside the perfect Scots family resort after £5m makeover, from animal experiences and playpark to incredible dining

Those school sessions, where we'd enter an unknown land of Dashing White Sergeants and Gay Gordons, set us up for being whirled about at weddings and parties in later life. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 The hotel has had a major revamp 7 You get up close with red deer 7 Cocktails in the bar were a real treat 7 The adventure park is perfect for kids And I got to relive that dance floor adventure with my wee boy on a mini-break at Crieff Hydro. The stunning Perthshire resort is a haven for families, full of activities to entertain kids, both big and small. And, for me, our highlight was the Saturday night ceilidh, where I spun five-year-old Jimmy around the ballroom for jigs and reels, leaving us grinning like loons. We arrived on a rainy Friday and checked into our spacious family room with gorgeous views. Gin and tonics had been left for the adults while the wee one was delighted with a bag of pick and mix — welcome, thoughtful touches. Each day, guests are provided with a daily activity rota with fun to be had every hour. We ditched our cases and immediately headed for an Animal Man session, where youngsters were introduced to amazing creatures while the adults relaxed — at one point I spotted a chicken wandering across the ballroom, and I'd only had a half pint! After a quick jaunt round the expansive grounds, we got dressed for the evening activities, starting with cocktails in the Ballroom Bar. You couldn't ask for a better vista to enjoy a cool drink, looking out over the rolling Perthshire Hills. My Penicillin was bitter and punchy, just how I like it, while husband Ryan loved his decadent Kir Royale and Jimmy was delighted with his bubblegum spritz mocktail. Dinner was at one of the Hydro's new restaurants, East, established after a multi-million pound revamp. Serving Asian fusion small plates, the menu has so many tempting dishes. A couple of highlights were black pepper beef fillet and sticky corn ribs, while Jimmy hoovered up sticky pork belly. Ronan Keating enjoys family holiday It was early to bed as we were up at the crack of dawn for a delicious buffet breakfast before a Highland Safari, an amazing must-do experience just 40 minutes from the hotel. We packed into a Land Rover with an expert guide who drove us high into the mountains passing through Dull on the way — and the trip was anything but. We learned about the flora, fauna and history of the area while we gasped at the stunning scenery. Jimmy loved hearing some of the wackier facts, like how a woodpecker wraps its tongue around its brain to soften the impact of drilling into trees with its beak. 7 The views on the safari were stunning 7 East has amazing fusion flavours Next on the agenda was a red deer experience back at Highland Safari base. We found out all about the beautiful creatures before getting up close to feed them. And before we headed back to the hotel we got to pan for gold, sifting through stones to find hidden gems — I was hooked on delving deep for gemstones like jasper and pyrite. We arrived back at the Hydro around 3pm, just in time for a treasure hunt, looking for hidden clues in a bid to win a medal. Glory secured, we had time for a relaxing dip in the pool before more cocktails and dinner, this time at the family-friendly Italian Piccolo. And, after fuelling up on pizza and pasta, it was time for my main event, the ceilidh. GO: CRIEFF STANDARD double rooms from £120 per night for midweek bookings. We were checking out on Sunday, but not before we headed for the on-site Action Glen where you can try everything from mini Land Rovers and disc-golf to axe throwing and archery. We had a fantastic time sampling almost everything before home-time. Crieff Hydro really is an exceptional escape for families — and we'll be St Bernard's Waltzing back as soon as possible.

GTA Online will add age verification to comply with UK laws claims insider

Rockstar is said to be planning an age verification system for GTA Online, with GTA 6 rumoured to be following suit for its online mode. While GTA 6 is expected to come with its own dedicated online multiplayer mode, it's currently unknown whether that will be something separate from GTA Online or just an extension of it. Will GTA Online be shut down and you'll be forced to hop over to GTA Online 2? Or is the playerbase substantial enough for Rockstar to keep supporting both? Hopefully, Rockstar will have an answer before GTA 6's launch in May 2026, although a new rumour suggests that big changes are coming to the way GTA's online features are accessed, particularly in the UK. The rumour comes from noted Rockstar dataminer Tez2, who believes they've found evidence of age verification for GTA Online within the game's files. 'Rockstar is planning to implement age assurance checks in the near future, rolling them out by region,' Tez2 writes on X. 'You may need to verify your age to access GTA Online, or certain features, like phone messages, text chat, Snapmatic, may be restricted until you verify your age.' Jokes aside, Rockstar is planning to implement age assurance checks in the near future, rolling them out by may need to verify your age to access #GTAOnline, or certain features, like phone messages, text chat, Snapmatic, may be restricted until you verify your age. — Tez2 (@TezFunz2) July 31, 2025 While GTA Online (and by extension GTA 5) has an age rating of 18, there is technically nothing stopping you from playing the game regardless of age, should an older relative buy it for you. However, if this age verification is implemented, adult players will need to provide proof that they are old enough to play GTA Online, while younger players would be locked out entirely. Tez2's claims sound perfectly believable considering recent changes made across the internet thanks to the UK's Online Safety Act. While a lot of focus has been on porn sites needing to ask users for their ID, social media sites have been affected too. More Trending Bluesky, for instance, now demands you either provide your credit card details or a scan of your face to send direct messages. Any businesses that don't comply with the law not only face fines from Ofcom, but also the possibility of being shut down and unable to operate in the UK. The changes have proved unpopular enough to prompt over 400,000 people to sign a petition to have them repealed, citing concerns over cybersecurity and restrictions on free speech. Rockstar has not formally commented on the matter but considering GTA Online features a lot of mature content, including an in-game stirp club, it could very well be facing pressure to comply with the UK's laws. If age verification is implemented, then GTA 6 and its online mode would no doubt have to follow suit. GTA 6 is expected to make a lot – and we mean a lot – of money when it launches and Rockstar's not going to want its game to be barred from sale in a big market like the UK.
