On May 29, 2025, London-based tech company Nothing teased that its upcoming flagship device, the Phone 3, might do away with its hallmark Glyph interface. First unveiled with the Phone 1 in 2022, the distinctive lighting system on the back, paired with a transparent design, helped the brand carve out a unique identity in the smartphone space. On Thursday, Nothing announced on X (formerly Twitter), 'We killed the Glyph Interface.' The Glyph system served multiple functions, displaying charging progress, indicating the arrival of an Uber or food delivery, alerting users to calls, notifications, and more.If this move is indeed final, the Nothing Phone 3 , set to launch in July 2025, could mark a major design shift, possibly replacing the Glyph system with a new dot matrix-style display or another standout feature. The Phone 3 is set to be Nothing's first true flagship, crafted with high-end materials, packed with significant performance boosts, and powered by software designed to deliver a next-level experience. If the rumors hold true, the Nothing Phone 3 could pack some serious flagship power. It's expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (also referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite), paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. A sizable 5,000 mAh battery is also likely on the cards. On the camera front, the Phone 3 might feature a 50 MP triple rear setup, potentially including a dedicated telephoto lens, along with a 32 MP front-facing camera for selfies. The display is also rumored to get a major upgrade, a 6.78-inch flexible LTPO AMOLED panel with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits.Nothing is also expected to launch their first headphones with the device in July.

Nothing plans to expand service coverage in India by 10% for Phone (3) launch

Nothing is planning to expand its service centre coverage in India by 10% for the Nothing Phone (3) launch. The London-based technology company is aiming to increase its service coverage here by another 10% before the end of this year. This move is part of the company's broader strategy to strengthen its presence and customer care in the country. Nothing currently operates over 330 service centres across India, which include five exclusive centres located in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. The company also maintains 20 priority desks. Akis Evangelidis, Nothing's co-founder and India head, recently expressed satisfaction with the exclusive service centre experience in Bangalore, noting that "98% of issues resolved in under 2 hours, with 97%+ customer satisfaction." He also confirmed plans to add 10 more priority desks by the end of the year. This focus on local production and expanded service is a strategic effort to enhance efficiency, shorten lead times, and respond more quickly to market demand. In a post shared on social media platform X (earlier Twitter), Evangelidis wrote: 'Dropped by our exclusive service center in Bangalore where 98% of issues resolved in under 2 hours, with 97%+ customer satisfaction. Huge shoutout to the team for the hard work and appreciate the warm welcome. Indian hospitality never fails 🇮🇳 We now have 330+ service centers across the country, including 5 exclusive ones in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad & Chennai - plus 20 priority desks. We've been doubling down on customer care and while the numbers start to look good, we're not resting on our laurels. There's always room to improve and specific cases that can be handled better - and with Phone (3) coming up, we're aiming to expand coverage by another 10% before year-end, with 10 more priority desks to be added by then.' Govt, industry, academia join hands to tackle rare earth magnet challenge

Government, industry and academia are working to resolve the issues concerning rare earth magnets , which are used in the automobile sector and other devices, a senior Meity official said on Friday. The technology exists to make rare earth magnets but to produce them at a commercially competitive rate is a challenge, ministry of electronics and IT, additional secretary, Amitesh Sinha said. Speaking on the sidelines of Tec-Verse event showcasing PSU technology research, Sinha said that to solve the issues concerning rare earth, all three partners - govt, industry and academia - are doing their work. "Technology is there, but we have to see how commercially we can do it at a competitive price. So that is the main challenge. Govt will surely work because these things are now becoming strategic and important," Sinha said. The Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology ( C-MET ), a research unit under Meity, at the event signed a transfer of technology agreement with Ahmedabad-based firm Somal Magnets for the production of rare earth magnets. Sinha said the work on the technology development has been going on for some years as the govt realises the importance of material technologies. "It is an effort of the last few years. So they (C-MET) have already been working on it, but suddenly the focus has come on this rare earth material. For such things, first we will have to develop a capability which, at the time of crisis, can be easily scaled. So that kind of infrastructure or capability we are aiming for now," Sinha said. He, however, said Meity is not directly engaged in the production of rare earth magnets but only in some technologies that are important for their production. In April 2024, China implemented strict export licensing on rare earth elements like terbium and dysprosium - key inputs for high-level performance NdFeB (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) magnets used in consumer electronics. The country's oldest electronics industry body, Elcina, said that the move has disrupted global supply chains, hitting India's fast-growing hearables and wearables sector hard, and the device makers are switching to import fully assembled speaker modules from China.

OpenAI employee set to join Meta calls the ‘$100 million signing bonus' fake news

In the last few months, Meta has been poaching AI researchers left and right to its superintelligence lab by paying them hefty 'signing bonuses', which some say amount to $100 million. However, this might not be the case. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lucas Beyer, who is currently working at OpenAI and will soon join Meta, says that the $100 million sign-up bonus is 'fake news.' Beyer also confirmed that he will be joined by Alexander Kolesnikov and Xiaohua Zhai, who are currently working at OpenAI. Last week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that Meta was trying to poach AI researchers from his company by offering them bonuses of $100 million. In a podcast hosted by OpenAI, Altman claimed that 'Meta started making giant offers to a lot of people on our team' and that 'at least, so far, none of our best people have decided to take them up on that.' According to a report by The Verge, when Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth was asked about the '$100 million signing bonuses', he said, 'Sam is just being dishonest here. He's suggesting that we're doing this for every single person…Look, you guys, the market's hot. It's not that hot.' Bosworth added that Altman is trying to counter all these offers and that it 'is not the general thing that's happening in the AI space.' The Meta CEO went on to say that there are a couple of more people joining the company, but declined to share details. However, Bosworth wasn't the only Meta executive to mention OpenAI at the internal meeting. CPO Chris Cox said that instead of building a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot that helps people with things like writing work emails, Meta wants to differentiate its AI offerings by focusing 'on entertainment, on connection with friends, on how people live their lives.' Compared to Google and OpenAI, Meta is finding it hard to compete in the AI race. However, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company recently built its superintelligence team and is on a hiring spree. Recently, Meta purchased a 49 per cent stake in Scale AI and hired its 28 year old CEO Alexandr Wang to lead its newly formed team.
