Onn Hafiz: JS-SEZ will anchor Johor's economic expansion and urbanisation
He said the initiative would lead to the emergence of more satellite towns, ensuring that no district is left behind in terms of infrastructure and progress. In addition to driving economic growth, JS-SEZ would also serve as a catalyst for the tourism sector, positioning Johor as a major destination, he noted.
The state government, he said, would seize the opportunity to promote attractions throughout Johor in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Johor Year.
"Bit by bit, areas surrounding JS-SEZ are beginning to experience the spillover effects of development. For example, the areas of Simpang Renggam and Renggam in Kluang are already seeing its impact. This progress will gradually expand to other districts.
"If Seremban is known as a satellite city to the Klang Valley, we expect Kluang to become one of the main satellite cities as a result of the JS-SEZ development," he said at the launch of the Majestic Johor x Renggam Fiesta at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) Renggam today.
The JS-SEZ covers major development zones such as Iskandar Malaysia, Forest City, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru, with a total land area of approximately 357,128 hectares.
The Iskandar Malaysia region also includes strategic areas such as Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas–Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai–Skudai, and Sedenak.
Further commenting, Onn Hafiz said that rapid development in the transport sector would also support connections between districts and the JS-SEZ, including the Johor Baru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project and the Gemas–Johor Baru Double Track Electrified Project.
"All these projects will enhance connectivity between Johor's districts and the key areas within the JS-SEZ, and the development will be carried out in phases," he added. - BERNAMA

JOHOR BARU: Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman has been appointed as the new Johor state secretary effective on Monday (Jul 7). Last week, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced that Azmi has been appointed Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja at Istana Negara beginning July 1. He said that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim had consented to Azmi's appointment as Comptroller of the Royal Household. Shamsul expressed confidence that with Azmi's vast experience and credibility, he would be able to strengthen the administration at Istana Negara and carry out his duties to assist His Majesty as the Head of State. Shamsul said that Azmi, 59, has served in the civil service for 33 years. Azmi served as Johor state secretary for eight years and six months. Azmi holds a Bachelor's degree in Development Science (Economics and Management) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as well as a Master's degree in Human Resource Development and a PhD in Land Administration and Development from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

JOHOR BARU, July 7 — Johor deputy state secretary (development) Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman has been appointed as the state's new state secretary, replacing Tan Sri Azmi Rohani. The appointment was announced by Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail in a brief post on his official Facebook page today. In the post, Asman Shah was presented the Letter of Credence at a ceremony held at the Balai Mengadap, Istana Bukit Serene here. Present at the ceremony was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Royal Council president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli. Asman Shah's appointment puts an end to a week-long speculation on the new state secretary, following the appointment of Azmi as the new Comptroller of the Royal Household in Istana Negara on July 1, The 59-year-old senior state civil servant previously held the positions of Johor Baru district officer, Pasir Gudang mayor, Johor Tourism director and the state-owned Johor Biotechnology and Biodiversity Corporation chief executive officer. Asman Shah has a Bachelor of Economics from University of Malaya (UM) and a Bachelor of Laws and Economics from Chiba University in Japan. The father of three is also a recipient of the Excellent Service Award in 2019 and 2020. Besides his administrative positions, Asman Shah is known for his other roles as the Johor Administrative Officers Scuba Diving Association president and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) II team manager.

Modi names Malaysia key partner in India's regional strategy
KUALA LUMPUR: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described Malaysia as a vital partner in India's Vision Mahasagar and Act East Policy, underscoring its strategic importance to the region. In a posting on his personal X account @narendramodi, Modi said he met his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 17th Brics Summit in Brazil. Modi said they reviewed the ground covered in bilateral relations, including the progress made since Anwar's visit to India last year. "Bilateral ties are growing strongly in futuristic sectors like IT, renewable energy and infrastructure. (We also) discussed how to improve investment and trade relations between our nations," he said. Modi announced Vision Mahasagar or "Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions" for the Global South during his visit to Mauritius on March 12, this year. The Mahasagar vision builds on the Sagar (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy that Modi first announced during his visit to Mauritius in 2015. Sagar has guided India's engagement with the Indian Ocean region over the past decade. Anwar arrived in Rio De Janeiro on Saturday to attend the 17th Brics Leaders' Summit hosted by Brazil. Malaysia participated in the summit in its capacity as a Brics partner country and 2025 Asean chair. The summit marks the first gathering among heads of state and government from Brics member and partner countries. The Brics group, which serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for countries of the Global South and collaboration across diverse sectors, was initially established by Brazil, Russia, India and China. It later expanded with the inclusion of South Africa in 2011, followed by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2023.
