Onn Hafiz: JS-SEZ will anchor Johor's economic expansion and urbanisation

KLUANG: The development of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is expected to benefit not only areas surrounding Johor Baru but also all 10 districts in the state, said Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He said the initiative would lead to the emergence of more satellite towns, ensuring that no district is left behind in terms of infrastructure and progress. In addition to driving economic growth, JS-SEZ would also serve as a catalyst for the tourism sector, positioning Johor as a major destination, he noted. The state government, he said, would seize the opportunity to promote attractions throughout Johor in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Johor Year. "Bit by bit, areas surrounding JS-SEZ are beginning to experience the spillover effects of development. For example, the areas of Simpang Renggam and Renggam in Kluang are already seeing its impact. This progress will gradually expand to other districts. "If Seremban is known as a satellite city to the Klang Valley, we expect Kluang to become one of the main satellite cities as a result of the JS-SEZ development," he said at the launch of the Majestic Johor x Renggam Fiesta at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) Renggam today. The JS-SEZ covers major development zones such as Iskandar Malaysia, Forest City, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru, with a total land area of approximately 357,128 hectares. The Iskandar Malaysia region also includes strategic areas such as Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas–Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai–Skudai, and Sedenak. Further commenting, Onn Hafiz said that rapid development in the transport sector would also support connections between districts and the JS-SEZ, including the Johor Baru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project and the Gemas–Johor Baru Double Track Electrified Project. "All these projects will enhance connectivity between Johor's districts and the key areas within the JS-SEZ, and the development will be carried out in phases," he added. - BERNAMA

JS-SEZ development to boost satellite towns in Johor districts

KLUANG: The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is set to bring widespread benefits beyond Johor Bahru, spurring the rise of satellite towns across all 10 districts in the state. Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi emphasised that the initiative ensures balanced infrastructure and progress, preventing any district from being left behind. Speaking at the Majestic Johor x Renggam Fiesta at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) Renggam, Onn Hafiz noted that the JS-SEZ will also boost tourism, positioning Johor as a key destination. The state government plans to leverage the upcoming Visit Johor Year to promote attractions statewide. 'Bit by bit, areas surrounding JS-SEZ are beginning to experience the spillover effects of development. For example, the areas of Simpang Renggam and Renggam in Kluang are already seeing its impact. This progress will gradually expand to other districts,' he said. He compared Kluang's potential to Seremban, which serves as a satellite city to the Klang Valley, predicting that Kluang could emerge as a major satellite city due to JS-SEZ-driven growth. The JS-SEZ spans approximately 357,128 hectares, covering key zones like Iskandar Malaysia, Forest City, Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru. Strategic areas under Iskandar Malaysia include Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas–Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai–Skudai, and Sedenak. Onn Hafiz added that transport projects like the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link and the Gemas–Johor Bahru Double Track Electrified Project will enhance connectivity between districts and JS-SEZ hubs. 'All these projects will enhance connectivity between Johor's districts and the key areas within the JS-SEZ, and the development will be carried out in phases,' he said. - Bernama

Johor Police Activate 'Omnipresence' Ahead Of Visit Johor Year

JOHOR BAHRU, June 18 (Bernama) -- Johor police activated omnipresence monitoring at seven tourist hotspots around the district starting June 14 to improve security in line with Visit Johor Year next year. Johor police chief CP Datuk M Kumar said the monitoring method by officers at the hotspots could ensure better efficiency, thus helping to reduce crime rates and strengthen the public's perception of peace and security. He said a total of 80 officers were involved in the assignment around the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), Bazar Karat, KSL shopping mall, Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Mid Valley Southkey, Sentosa and Angsana Johor Bahru Mall. "The assignment of officers to the area is based on peak hours, this includes visits to shops and officers will also meet with traders and visitors, thus strengthening the situation of Johor being a safe place to live," he said when met by reporters at the Johor Contingent Monthly Assembly at the Johor contingent police headquarters, here today. Kumar said omnipresence received a positive response from the community, and he plans to continue implementing it as a daily monitoring method. "We will continue this programme and the assignments will be made according to specific times. I'm planning to make it a daily thing, this week we will see the effectiveness of the monitoring,'' he said. When asked about the progress of the investigation into the video edited using artificial intelligence (AI) technology involving him, Kumar said so far no suspects have been identified but the investigation is actively underway. He said the police are also cooperating and seeking assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). "I would like to take this opportunity to advise the public to be vigilant against digital impersonations which are now becoming increasingly sophisticated," he said.
