1L students to get free JEE/NEET coaching
The announcement was made by Education Minister Nara Lokesh, who emphasised the government's commitment to equitable educational opportunities.
"We are giving every Andhra child a fair chance to dream big and achieve bigger," the minister said, highlighting the unprecedented scale of the programme.
This initiative, which will benefit MPC and BiPC students across the state, marks the first time such a large-scale endeavor has been undertaken in the state's education system to empower students from economically weaker backgrounds to compete at the national level for admission into top engineering and medical colleges.
A specialised study material for physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics has been developed over six months by a team of leading subject experts from both government and private educational institutions.
To facilitate dedicated coaching, college timings have been extended from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Students will now receive a minimum of two dedicated hours of coaching daily based on the new curriculum. Junior lecturers have undergone specialised training to effectively deliver the content.
Beyond just study materials, the programme incorporates the best practices from top private institutions, including weekly tests, performance reviews, and regular progress tracking, all now implemented within government colleges.
Lokesh reiterated. "We are creating an environment where every child in Andhra Pradesh can prepare confidently for JEE, NEET, and other national-level exams."
This initiative will significantly bridge the existing gap between private and government education, aligning with the 'Andhra Pradesh Model of Education', he added. "Our government firmly believes that quality education must be a right, not a privilege," Lokesh remarked.

SC rejects plea to stay NEET-UG 2025 counselling over alleged answer-key error
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition to stay the counselling in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025 examination due to an alleged error in the answer key released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) last month. The petitioner has scored 565 marks in the NEET-UG 2025 examination, securing an all-India rank of 6,783 and a general category rank of 3,195. (Representative photo) A petition was filed by NEET-UG candidate Shivam Gandhi Raina, pointing out that one of the answers was incorrect as per the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbook of Class 11 and has not been rectified by the NTA. Observing that the court will not interfere with a national-level examination that 'involves the careers of thousands of students,' a bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan said, 'You are right, there could be multiple answers, despite that, we will not interfere in a national level examination.' Senior advocate R. Balasubramanian, appearing for the candidate, said that it involves the career of a student and that by rectifying the error, he stands to gain five marks that might secure admission to a better medical college. He further pointed out that last year, when similar flaws were brought to the notice of the top court in the answer key of NEET, a committee of experts drawn from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) had examined the alleged errors, and based on their recommendation, results were revised. In the other matter last year, the matter was taken up that led to reforms. There were widespread grievances about the discrepancies and shortcomings over the conduct of the examination that the court had to tackle. We cannot tackle individual examinations. We need to tackle larger reforms,' the bench said. The court further observed that the case presented last year involved a number of students, while the present case is an individual grievance. It also informed the petitioner that a similar challenge to the NEET-UG answer key was rejected by the court on Thursday. The petitioner, who scored 565 marks in the NEET-UG 2025 examination—securing an all-India rank of 6,783 and a general category rank of 3,195—stated that he had approached the NTA, after the release of the provisional answer key on June 3, to highlight an error. However, the same error was retained in the final results.

Madras High Court Rejects Plea for NEET UG 2025 Re-Exam, Cites No Major Disruption
The Madras High Court has dismissed a plea seeking the re-conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025 for students who appeared at examination centres affected by power cuts due to heavy rainfall on May 4. A Division Bench comprising Justices J. Nisha Banu and M. Jothiraman upheld an earlier ruling by Justice C. Kumarappan, who had on June 6 refused to order a re-examination. The appeal was filed by a group of candidates who claimed that the power disruption during the examination created unfair conditions, putting them at a disadvantage compared to those who wrote the test under normal circumstances. The students argued that the absence of electricity led to a complete breakdown of examination conditions at some centres, and they had been denied an equal opportunity. However, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan, appearing for the Centre, countered these claims by submitting CCTV footage from the affected centres. He pointed out that the examination halls had large glass windows that allowed ample natural light, and thus the impact of the power outage was minimal. He further stated that many candidates at those centres performed well despite the weather conditions, with one answering 179 out of 180 questions and others answering more than 140 questions, showing that their performance was not hampered. Sundaresan also informed the court that the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the NEET-UG, had formed an independent expert committee to assess the situation. The committee conducted field visits and statistical analysis of the candidates' performance at the affected centres. After a detailed review, the committee found no significant difference in the performance of students affected by the outage compared to others and concluded that a re-exam was not warranted. The High Court accepted the committee's findings and ruled that the judiciary should not interfere with the well-considered decision of the NTA unless it is proven to be arbitrary or unlawful. The Bench emphasised the need to maintain the integrity of large-scale competitive exams and noted that ordering a re-exam for a small group would disturb the entire merit list and affect over 22 lakh candidates who took the test. In its detailed judgment, the court stated, 'It is crucial to uphold the integrity of educational assessments. This court cannot overturn the NTA's decision, which was made after thorough field verification and an expert committee analysis, unless there is evidence of serious flaws or injustice.' With this, the court ruled that the appeal had no merit and should be dismissed, thereby affirming that the NEET-UG 2025 results will remain unchanged for all candidates, including those who appeared at centres affected by the May 4 rain and power outage.

'Leaf From PM's Playbook': Andhra Pradesh's Nara Lokesh On 99p Land For IT Majors
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh told NDTV he was 'inspired' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he got software giants Cognizant and Tata Consultancy Service to invest in the state, by offering to lease land at Re 1 and 99 paise, respectively. The reference to the PM was a throwback to when he, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, brought Tata Motors to the state by offering land at Re 1. Nara Lokesh also declared his 99p offer open to other big IT giants, the top 100 in the world, in fact, and called it a signal of the state's intent to become a leading destination for technological advancement. Andhra Pradesh has already allocated 21.31 acres to Cognizant for an IT campus at on land leased at Re 1. Cognizant is expected to invest Rs 1,582.98 crore and create 8,000 jobs in Visakhapatnam. This follows allocation to TCS in April - 21.16 acres were provided at 99pm and TCS committed to an investment of Rs 1,370 crore, as wel as the creation of 12,000 jobs. On 3-Capital Plan Meanwhile, on the contentious three-capita plan for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Lokesh pointed to the overwhelming mandate for Andhra's ruling Telugu Desam Party after last year's Assembly election. In that election, he said, Visakhapatnam had given a clear directive to the TDP against the three-capital plan proposed by former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his YSR Congress Party. He pointed out the YSRCP had failed to win even a single seat in the region, indicating the public's desire for economic development, which his government is now delivering. "Andhra Pradesh has been a little late on IT. So we are leveraging what we see as our strategic advantage that we can offer," he explained, adding he envisions Visakhapatnam as a significant IT hub and a global chemical manufacturing centre, with plans for a new airport and India's largest steel plant. On Water Dispute Addressing the ongoing water dispute with Telangana, Nara Lokesh lamented the waste of water, and stressed the importance of building projects to conserve and utilise every drop. He said Andhra Pradesh had no objection to the Kaleshwaram irrigation project and reiterated Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's stance that both Telugu states must prosper together. He said his government is "not here to steal anything from Telangana". On his 'redbook', which reportedly contains records of alleged wrongduring by the YSRCP when it was in power, he said officers who violated the law had been suspended and those who broke it will "face the music". He cited instances of land-grabbing and the unlawful takeover of assets like Kakinada Port. On the subject of sharp political exchanges in Andhra, Lokesh said the TDP had never sought to defame individuals or families. He highlighted action was taken against a TDP worker who 'crossed the line', while alleging Jagan Reddy never took action when his mother was attacked and his wife insulted. Lokesh then accused Jagan Reddy of supporting violence, contrasting it with his party's disciplined approach and focus on people's issues, a philosophy, he said, was responsible for its victory in 2024; the party secured 94 per cent of the seats and even denied Jagan Reddy Leader of Opposition status.
