While
Rekha
is known for a long list of iconic movies like 'Umrao Jaan', 'Khoobsurat', 'Silsila' and many more, 'Khoon Bhari Maang' also remains in her best work list. The actress broke stereotypes around actresses with the role and during those days, female-oriented scripts hardly existed.
Kabir Bedi
was Rekha's co-star in the film and in a recent interview, he has opened up on working with the legendary actress.
The film was directed by
Rakesh Roshan
. Talking about how he came on board, Bedi said during a chat with Siddharth Kannan, 'Khoon Bhari Maang is the film I am most known for, it's the most remembered. The film was a superhit. I was shooting for another series, called Magnum PI, in Hawaii when I received a call from Rakesh Roshan.
He offered me the role of a hero in his film, and I asked why he chose me for it. Then he told me that the hero becomes the villain in the movie, and no other hero was willing to do this.
He also shared that starring another villain would have no surprise element, which is why he told me only I could play hero and a villain.'
He further added, 'The minute he told me Rehka was the heroine, I said yes. Back then, it was a huge honor working with her.
She had won some awards for Umrao Jaan and was a brilliant actor, so I re-routed my schedule in Hawaii and came to shoot here. Rekha made that film what it is; she was the heart and soul of Khoon Bhari Maang. The film made a big impression on people. And I didn't want to lose the opportunity of working with Rekha.
'
Talking about how Rekha is as a person and how he bonded with her, Kabir added, 'We had mutual respect for one another. She is a private person; she guards her privacy. She is a very sensitive girl who is afraid of being hurt, so she protects herself, and I respect that. Even today, we meet very nicely, I embrace her, like her, but it was never like we sat down together and had lots of evenings talking about life. We would meet on set, speak there, but no great socializing after work.

Rekha's co-star opens up on their relationship off screen: 'I like her, but ...'

Veteran actor Kabir Bedi recently revisited the memories of his career-defining role in Rakesh Roshan 's 1988 film Khoon Bhari Maang , a thriller that starred Rekha in the lead. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Bedi revealed the unusual circumstances under which he was approached for the role and how Rekha's involvement played a pivotal part in his decision to accept the offer. A Role That Defined His Career Kabir Bedi admitted that Khoon Bhari Maang remains one of the most recognizable films in his entire filmography. He recalled that during the time he was shooting in Hawaii for the American television series Magnum P.I., he received a phone call from director Rakesh Roshan. Roshan, according to Bedi, offered him a unique role — one that begins as a conventional hero but dramatically transforms into an antagonist as the story progresses. The director explained that no mainstream actor was willing to take on such a dual-natured character because of its dark arc. Roshan emphasized that the audience would only be truly shocked if someone traditionally viewed as a hero turned villain, and he believed Bedi was the ideal choice to deliver that surprise. Rekha's Presence Sealed the Deal According to Bedi, the moment he learned that Rekha was cast as the female lead, his decision was instant. He described her as a powerhouse of talent who had recently garnered critical acclaim for her performance in Umrao Jaan. The chance to collaborate with her was a prestigious opportunity, one he didn't want to let pass. Without hesitation, he rearranged his schedule in Hawaii and committed himself to the film. Bedi credited Rekha as the driving force behind the movie's emotional and dramatic core, acknowledging that she was the essence of Khoon Bhari Maang and central to its success. Professional Bond Marked by Mutual Regard Delving into their off-screen rapport, Bedi emphasized that while he and Rekha shared a deep professional admiration, their relationship never extended into personal social interactions. He portrayed Rekha as someone highly private, someone who guarded her emotions carefully to avoid emotional distress. "She is a private person; she guards her privacy. She is a very sensitive girl who is afraid of being hurt, so she protects herself, and I respect that. Even today, we meet very nicely. I embrace her and like her, but it was never like we sat down together and had lots of evenings talking about life...." he admitted. Despite not socializing outside work, Bedi said that they always had warm, respectful interactions on set. Even years later, he noted, their occasional meetings remain cordial and affectionate. This retrospective highlights how a single role—and the presence of a legendary co-star—became a landmark in Kabir Bedi's cinematic journey.

When a rude shopkeeper thought Amitabh Bachchan couldn't afford a £120 tie: ‘We sometimes need to..'

Amitabh Bachchan is known for his towering screen presence, sharp wit and remarkable dignity. But even off-screen, the Bollywood legend carries himself with a quiet pride that often leaves a lasting impression. In an old episode of his popular quiz show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', the actor had shared a delightful anecdote that perfectly summed up his graceful way of handling arrogance. Does Big B ever check the price tag? It all began when a contestant on 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' asked the 'Sholay' actorif he ever checks the price tag before buying something. It's a question many would love to ask a superstar. Big B replied honestly, saying it is quite normal to look at the price before buying anything. He said, 'It is natural for any person to check the price before buying anything.' Then he went on to share a personal story that not only answered the question, but also gave everyone a clever lesson on self-respect. A day shopping in London The 'Zanjeer' actor spoke about the time he was shopping in London. As he was looking at a tie, the shopkeeper made a rude remark. It seemed like the shopkeeper thought Bachchan could not afford it. The 'Piku' actor said, 'We were just shopping around, and I happened to be looking at a tie, when the shopkeeper, with a dismissive tone, said it cost 120 pounds.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The perfect reply Instead of getting upset or showing anger, Amitabh chose to respond in a classy way that completely surprised the shopkeeper. The 'Silsila' actor added, 'I looked right back at him and responded, 'Pack ten of these for me.' It's moments like these that remind me of the importance of showing our Indian spirit and confidence, even when faced with condescension. We sometimes need to make it clear that we are not to be underestimated. ' Upcoming projects Amitabh Bachchan continues to rule the screen with big films lined up. He was last seen in 'Vettaiyan' and is now set to shine in 'Section 84'. Fans are also excited to see him return as Ashvatthama in Nag Ashwin's 'Kalki 2', alongside Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone . It doesn't stop there. Bachchan is also reportedly voicing Jatayu in 'Ramayana: Part 1', directed by Nitesh Tiwari, starring Ranbir Kapoor , Sai Pallavi and Yash.
