Figure AI CEO skips live demo, sidesteps BMW deal questions onstage at tech conference
When asked about the skepticism surrounding the BMW relationship and whether it is a pilot or has commercial value to the company, Adcock replied with an explanation of the technical benefit of having robots on a factory floor but didn't provide specifics about the contractual relationship with BMW.
"We get a lot of value, and it's really important that we need to figure out how to run robots every day. We get to see how well they perform. We get to track all the metrics," he said. Two months ago, Figure also published a YouTube video showing a couple of its robots working in a BMW factory.
Adcock did, however, say that Figure AI has signed a contract with a second, unnamed customer for initial deployment, a customer that Bloomberg has reported to be UPS.
Figure AI has drawn attention for making claims that its AI-powered robots possess human-like fine motor skills and can manipulate objects with precision. Despite releasing numerous videos of its robots at work, the company hasn't done a live demonstration of the humanoids.
The interviewer, Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow, pointed out that while two other robotics companies, Agility Robotics and Boston Dynamics, showcased their robots at the conference, Figure AI did not. 'It kind of goes back to our whole philosophy around we don't go to a lot of events," said Adcock. "I think it's a giant waste of time. To be frank, I have to bring a team here to bring robots here. They could be at the office,' he said, adding that the company is showcasing the robots in videos.
Adcock confirmed that Figure AI is expecting to manufacture and deploy roughly 100,000 units within four years.
The skepticism about Figure's commercial relationship comes amid the company's attempts to raise a $1.5 billion round at a $39.5 billion valuation, sources told Bloomberg, a fifteenfold increase from the $2.6 billion valuation it achieved in February 2024.
TechCrunch reported in April that Figure AI has been issuing cease-and-desist letters to secondary market brokers, demanding they stop marketing its shares because they are not authorized to do so.

GOOGL Earnings: The Cheapest of the Magnificent 7
Alphabet (GOOGL) heads into its second-quarter earnings report on July 23 with something to prove. While the stock is flat year-to-date, lagging significantly behind Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META), it is in line with the performance of Amazon (AMZN) and much better than Tesla (TSLA) and Apple (AAPL). Despite the mixed performance, Alphabet may now be one of the most attractively priced stocks in the Magnificent 7. At just 20x forward earnings, GOOGL trades well below its 10-year median of 25.8x, offering an opportune valuation discount in a market saturated with AI-driven premiums. Yet many investors remain skeptical, with bears raising concerns about search cannibalization from AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. While this narrative dominates headlines, the data has yet to confirm any material erosion in Alphabet's search business, though it will be a key metric to watch in Wednesday's report. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Alphabet Earnings Breakdown According to the latest Zacks data, Alphabet is expected to post revenues of $79.25 billion for Q2 2025, reflecting an 11.06% increase over the year-ago quarter. EPS is forecast at $2.14, representing 13.2% year-over-year growth. Estimates have remained stable in recent weeks, suggesting analyst confidence heading into the report. GOOGL currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) rating, with current quarter earnings estimates rising by 1% in the last week, next quarter increasing by 1.85% and next years estimates dropping 1.3%. Over the past four quarters, Alphabet has consistently exceeded earnings expectations, including a 39.11% beat last quarter. For the upcoming report, the Zacks Earnings ESP suggests a potential beat of 0.87%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Google Search Remains a Core Engine Search remains the company's crown jewel and a point of investor anxiety. The rise of large language models (LLMs) has fueled speculation that traditional web search could be disrupted. So far, however, Google Search appears to be holding up well, even as competitors attempt to innovate around it. This quarter's commentary on ad spending trends and search monetization will be closely scrutinized. While investors are right to ask hard questions, they should also remember Alphabet's key advantage: data. Gemini, Alphabet's native AI model, is built on the vast ocean of the company's proprietary and real-time internet data. This gives it a competitive edge in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), an increasingly important aspect of commercial AI use. GOOGL Stock's Quiet Advantage, YouTube If search is Alphabet's cash cow, YouTube may be its silent growth engine. According to Nielsen data, YouTube has steadily increased its share of US TV viewing time and now surpasses players like Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, and even Netflix. Its rise reflects a generational shift in media consumption habits, and with its integration of Shorts and AI-powered content tools, YouTube seriously dominates the video content space. YouTube's ad monetization trends will be another key figure to watch. After a brief slump during the digital ad slowdown in 2023, revenue trends have rebounded, and a strong print this quarter could push investor sentiment sharply higher. Image Source: Nielsen Google Cloud is a Growth Center for the Stock Once a drag on profitability, Google Cloud has become a meaningful contributor to Alphabet's bottom line. In Q1 2025, Google Cloud generated $12.3 billion in revenue, marking a 28% year-over-year increase. This impressive growth has been driven by a surge in enterprise demand for AI infrastructure, model hosting, and generative AI tools. Recent developments underscore this momentum. Notably, OpenAI despite its ties to Microsoft, struck a landmark cloud deal with Google, a move that highlights Alphabet's growing credibility and competitiveness in AI infrastructure services. Q1 also highlighted that Google Cloud continues to chip away at market leaders Amazon and Microsoft. The company expanded its global market share to 11%, up from 10% in Q4 2024. While Amazon Web Services (AWS) remains the dominant player, its share slipped to 30%, down one percentage point, highlighting how Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud are steadily gaining traction. Google's momentum reflects growing enterprise demand for its AI-optimized infrastructure and broader adoption of its cloud services across industries. Alphabet Shares are Undervalued and Underestimated Despite flat YTD performance and bearish sentiment, Alphabet is not broken. At just 20x forward earnings, expected to grow earnings 15% annually over the next three to five years, and with major franchises like YouTube and Google Cloud gaining steam, the stock may be setting up for a strong second half. While risks remain, particularly around competitive threats in AI and potential search cannibalization, Alphabet's scale, balance sheet strength, and breadth of monetizable assets suggest the long-term case remains intact. With low expectations, compelling valuation, and solid earnings momentum, GOOGL might just be the most overlooked of the Magnificent 7 heading into Q2 earnings. YouTuybe Tests Threaded Comments, Additional AI Music Options
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. YouTube is testing out a new 'comment threading' feature with YouTube Premium subscribers, while it's also adding some new features to its AI-powered 'Dream Track' music option. First off, on comment threading. As it sounds, comment threading makes it easier to track a conversation, by linking replies to a comment within a single stream. As you can see in this example, with comment threading active, viewers will be able to tap through in a comment to see the full conversation related to that reply in a single comment tree. As explained by YouTube: 'Comment threading provides a more focused reading experience and helps users easily understand conversations. Click on the 'X replies' button under a comment and view threaded replies in the 'Replies' panel. Only available on iOS and Android.' So it's a simplified discussion tracking display, which could help to spark more specific discussion in the comment panels. It seems like a handy formatting update, though we'll wait and see what YouTube's testing uncovers in terms of utility. YouTube's also testing some new updates to its Dream Track experiment, which enables you to create short audio clips, via AI, based on text prompts. YouTube first announced that it was working with a range of musicians on Dream Track back in 2023, before making the option available to all U.S.-based creators last October. And now, it's looking to enhance your AI-generated music outputs, with additional tools that will enable you to further customize your generated tracks. 'If you're a creator in the experiment group, you may see new options and quality enhancements to the customized soundtracks you can create for your Shorts. These experimental features are rolling out to a select group of creators in the U.S.' So not a lot to go on, in terms of specifics, but Dream Track audio clips are essentially designed to provide a soundtrack option for Shorts, based on trending music styles and genres. Some small, but potentially handy updates, which could help in your YouTube creation process. Dirt Race Crash Ends With Car Flipping After Driver Retaliates
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In the MARS Late Model series at Farmer City Raceway in Illinois, two drivers got into a terrifying crash, which resulted in a car completely flipping on its head. During the race, Daryn Klein (No. 10) attempted to pass Bob Gardner (No. 4), but the move didn't work out. Klein's car hopped on top of Gardner's, and another driver, Dylan Thornton, also hit the No. 10. Gardner was left with massive damage to his car, and in a fit of rage, he prepared to retaliate against Klein for the aggressive overtake attempt. Photo byHe rejoined the track and drove into incoming cars. The rest of the field managed to avoid him, though Gardner wasn't done with Klein just yet. The No. 10 cut across the track, got side by side with the No. 4, and whacked his rival, leaving Klein's car flipped upside down. All of this action happened on the first lap of the race, though none of the other drivers were injured after the dangerous incident. Luckily, this happened at a dirt track with cars that didn't reach high speed - lessening the risk for a scary outcome. Gardner ended up disqualified from the race. He offered his side of the story in a personal YouTube video. "What I did was uncalled for, was wrong, was out of my character — but I did it, and I'll suffer the consequences for that, whatever that may be. "In the heat of the moment, I wanted to flatten Daryn's left rear tire; in my mind, he put me out of contention for not only that heat, but for the rest of the night for a possible win, and in my mind, he wasn't going to finish that heat race. "I just wanted to flatten his left rear tire so he could race the heat race, give him a little payback. "Whether anybody thinks that's right or wrong, that was my intention. Obviously, it didn't go that way." The racing series issued a six-month ban from all dirt racing events, with a potential for reinstatement or an extended penalty. "Bob Gardner has been a loyal supporter of the MARS Late Model Championship tour and has attended every event that has been held since MC Promotions took ownership over the series in 2023, with the exception of one show," the series' post-race report read. "Gardner placed fourth in series standings in both 2023 and 2024 and was currently 11th in 2025 series standings heading into Farmer City. "This penalty report is being made public due to the severity of the on-track incident, to provide clarity and transparency of the incident, and to show we do not condone this type of behavior at our events."
